About this cottage rental
Enjoy peace and quiet at the Cottage at Useful Bear Farm. Vashon Island has lots to offer year-round: beaches, hiking, biking and bird-watching. Conveniently located near the north-end ferry and close to town where there are wonderful shops and restaurants. The cottage has full kitchen, bathroom and living/dining room on the first floor. Upstairs is a large sleeping loft with queen bed separated by a divider and a trundle bed and sleeper sofa. A portion of the proceeds from the cottage go to local housing programs.

Lovely property, the host was very friendly. Easy to get to and find. The plums they left out for us from their farm were the best I’ve ever had. Would stay here again and recommend to others.

Everything about the stay was excellent. It's a great little place if you want some time on the island. Very clean, close to town and the north end ferry, and the beds were extremely comfortable. Absolutely recommend it.

So clean and well stocked. Beautiful little cabin. We were a bit worried of the bedrooms being upstairs because of the heat, but not to worry, Debra thought of that too. Fans and and AC unit were running when we arrived. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Property was exactly as described. We were in town for a wedding, and did not have a ride. No ubers! Debra was kind enough to offer transportation and an early check in to accommodate. Would love to go back soon!

This charming cottage was perfectly appointed and so comfortable. Convenient to the ferry and the downtown restaurants and shops. Deborah greeted us on arrival and made sure we had everything we needed. We hope to visit again!

My husband and I booked this cottage for a short getaway from Tacoma. The cottage was easy to find, and parking was clearly labeled. The cottage is on the property of the hosts, main house, but it felt much more private than that. The Space felt very spacious, there were tons of outlets to plug-in our devices, and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for any light meals. They even had an organized drawer with miscellaneous things like tape, safety pins, pens, extra chargers, etc. Deborah had left us a small bowl with eggs from their chickens, and a little bouquet of flowers, which was adorable. We did not bring our toddler daughter, but they had a highchair and other things that she would need if she had come with us. The location was great and my husband and I brought our bikes. We did a short bike ride into downtown Vashon for dinner and a movie. We had an excellent weekend!

It was super homey and refreshing. Everything was clean and very quiet. The property owner left us eggs and fresh tulips. The stairs are a bit steep to the upstairs but well lit. Be aware there is no TV so if your looking to watch a late night movie bring a laptop or portable TV. We never had any interaction at all with the owner. The main window of the cottage looks directly into the homeowners own main house so for privacy you have to close the main blinds in the main area of the home that lets in light. The back part of the home is beautiful with the cherry blossom trees blooming, you just have to look past the old sink randomly placed in the middle of the brush. Overall a nice stay. Peaceful, quiet,clean.

My partner and I had a lovely stay. The house is really well appointed and comfortable. It definitely had a farm house/cabin vibe. It was very quiet and peaceful. We had a great time.

Enjoyed our overnight stay in this lovely little cabin. it is record temperatures, super cold (20 degrees) but the owners had lots of nice touches, plenty of blankets, throw blankets, even snuggly socks in a basket by the door. Loved the fresh eggs from their chickens. it was so cold we did not bother to put our cold food items in the fridge. Brrr. Thanks for the lovely accommodations, would definitely stay here again.

Everything was perfect. One exception the twin bed was pretty uncomfortable. I ended up on a couch which worked out fine for me. Hosts are generous and helpful. 5 stars

Prior to my arrival, I hadn't received ANY communication from the owners of the property. No one was there to greet me. I knocked on the main property & no one was home except a barking dog. I returned to the cottage to discover the door was unlocked, which was disconcerting. The pervasive odors of bacon and DOG were all over. There was rotten food in the refrigerator and I wanted to turn around and get back on the ferry. Hours later I received an email. The owners were off island for the weekend. How lucky for them.

We had a very pleasant stay. Everything was thoughtfully detailed. The upstairs sitting area was our favorite place to hang out, and that was in addition to a living room downstairs.

We only stayed over night but this was a terrific spot near the north end ferry terminal. When we arrived we were greeted by the owners and they were very friendly. They gave us the run down of the property and gave some recommendations for places to eat. We will be sure to visit again!

We had a great time staying at this property. The cottage was just as cute as pictured and our kids enjoyed meeting the chickens in the yard. Debra was very hospitable- checking in each day to make sure we were comfortable. The town of Vashon is an easy 5 minute drive away. We would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our stay on this lovely property. The hosts were very wecoming and helpful. There is a sweet little backyard and the house is very clean and comfortable. Definitely a gem!

The cottage is adorable. Very clean and homey. The owner even left six eggs for me with a note that it was from her "girls" with the chicken's names. I was unable to complete my stay due to a family emergency. The owner was very kind and understanding of my circumstances out of my control. I hope to be able to return some time soon.

Our hosts were very welcoming and the cottage was charming. The kid enjoyed checking out the small farm on the property (hello chickens!) and picking wild blackberries.

The guest house was so cute, on a farm 5 minutes from the center of the Island. The vase of farm flowers were so sweet. Easy communication with the host. The place was perfect for our family of 4. Roomy and comfortable.
The king bed was super comfy with nice sheets, pillows, etc. We appreciated the water and coffee pods provided. We enjoyed our stay on the quiet property very much!

This is a very nice well maintained little cottage. My husband and I stayed there with our two grandkids. The hosts were very nice and thoughtful. I would definitely recommend staying here.

A friend and I stayed here in early May 2023. It’s a very nice little cottage. Well kept and clean. Nicely decorated. The heat was a little funky to figure out, but was fine once you didWould definitely stay again if I come back to Vashon.

We spent one night here on our way to the Olympic Peninsula. It's very nice, right on the main road pretty close to downtown but still very quiet. Debra greeted us when we pulled in and showed us how the heaters work, since it was unusually cold out. The house has some nice books around, a few board games, some pots and pans and toiletries. The tap water tastes great! It was perfect for our family of three.
