Build a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes, because Buxton’s unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally-decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. The screened-in porch is a great place to enjoy a cup of morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, and there are plenty of appliances, counter space, and cabinet storage in the full kitchen. The living room is a great place to enjoy a movie night with friends and family after a fun day on the beach. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

The wash machine was inoperable and we packed light expecting to use it. Several lights were not working in the house, one in particular was an issue. The stairs going up to the bedroom had no operable light and it was very dangerous going up and down at night. Overall house was basic and in need of some updates. The beach parking lot was closed which was an inconvenience as we had an elderly mother who is unable to walk.

We really enjoyed our stay!
The inside of the home was cozy. The kitchen isn't extremely stocked but has the basic plates, utensils, pans, etc. I packed my crock pot and a few other necessities. This is just a rental home by a rental company, not by a single family, which is fine. Just doesn't have that super homey touch as some VRBOs.
We did buy a cheap broom and dust pan to leave at the house, and cleaning supplies for the counters. They do leave you a starter set of paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, sponge, and toilet paper.
There were not a lot of towels, but it is great there is a washer and dryer, so we were able to wash out towels.
Outside DO NOT walk barefoot in the grass, there are these little gumball things that will hurt your feet or animal paws.
The porches are very nice! We had to clean off the furniture, but otherwise, it was nice.
It is nice that the dumpster is right near the house! So trash disposal was easy.
The elevator was great for groceries and luggage!
Checking in and out was simple! And the staff at Vacasa was very easy to communicate with.
We would absolutely rent this house again.

This house is in a great location. There are restaurants close by. The beach is just steps away. The Hatteras lighthouse is in your backyard. Beautiful scenery.

The house was nice and the elevator was a big plus. Vacasa has come through for us once again!

Day 1 was told we could check in early. There was a dead cockroach in the master closet. No way to lock the doors that go to the balcony. The screened in balcony, the screen was busted on the door going down the stairs. This clearly was unsafe for littles. All the bifold doors were off the tracks. The dryer didn't dry and was missing the lint trap. Floors had not been cleaned, ceiling fans not clean, and nothing was dusted. The comforter was just a decorative blanket. There was black mold on the pipes under the sink in the master bathroom. All the mattresses are overdue for new ones. Day two screen was fixed but not notified someone would be in the home. Found a live cockroach in the kitchen cabinet. Day 4 bag of towels left inside , again not notified someone would be in the house. Day 5 found a dead cockroach in the dinning room. Asked for a late checkout due to flash flood warning in affect til 11:45. Was told my families safety did not matter since the unit was rented. I would rent a house through a different company. At no point for the problems we're we offered any compensation back.

Overall it was great. Up on getting to the house the 3rd floor air conditioning wasn’t working but after I called someone came about an hour later to look at it, then left and came back with 3 window units which was good. There were a few minor issues but not important enough to mention.
