About this cabin rental
Summary:
Looking for a full camp with multiple cabins for a family reunion or unique wedding location? When available, the entire Foxtail Cabins campus may be available for rental - but call to make this reservation.
The Foxtail Cabins are located on the north side of Rathbun Lake, just west of the Town of Moravia. This area offers limitless activities to choose from. Centerville, which is located just 20 minutes South of our cabins, was recently listed in Outdoor Life magazine as one of the top 200 towns in the United States for hunters and fishermen to call home. Currently, there are 17 cabins that comprise Foxtail Cabins.
Whether fishing for the many species of fish in the 11,000-acre Rathbun Lake, or hunting for pheasants, quail or that trophy buck that southern Iowa is known for, today's sportsman will certainly fall in love with this area. For the non-sportsman the waters of Rathbun Lake give plenty of opportunities for boating or just relaxing on its beaches.
Beyond hunting and fishing, there is plenty of shopping to be done in the cozy shops in the nearby communities of Centerville, Albia, and Bloomfield. With the opening of the Honey Creek Resort / Water Park and Golf Course, the list of activities continues to grow.
Getting Around:
Moravia , IA , United States
If you enjoy the outdoors, you will love Rathbun Lake. With more than 11,000 acres, eight parks, two marinas, and several restaurants and cultural activities nearby, the Rathbun Lake area is a vacation destination for everyone.
As the second largest lake in Iowa, Rathbun is nestled among forested lands, prairies and wetlands preserved to ensure the natural environment. Bald eagles, white-tailed deer, songbirds and other wildlife are prevalent in the area. Rathbun is a flood protection lake managed by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Recreation facilities include boat ramps, camp grounds, picnic areas and playgrounds. The Corps has a Visitors Center that provides information about Rathbun Lake’s natural resources.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) manages both Honey Creek Resort and the original 850-acre Honey Creek State Park. In the future, the DNR plans to link the two parks, which are separated by a cove, with a pedestrian bridge. Honey Creek State Park offers camping, camping cabins, heated shower facility, trails and a boat ramp.
Another DNR facility in the area is the Rathbun Fish Hatchery. The hatchery raises channel catfish, walleye, saugeye and largemouth bass, which are then stocked in other Iowa lakes. Visitors are welcome year-round, including large-group tours with an appointment.
