Located in a busy commercial area, Downtown is filled with shops and mid-rise apartment buildings. There is a pedestrian plaza with chain fashion stores and fast food restaurants on two levels. In the winter, children skate on an outdoor ice rink. The AFI Silver Theatre screens independent films and hosts festivals, and the Fillmore hosts touring bands.

In Silver Spring, residents enjoy an urban atmosphere, and most of the residents rent their homes. There are many restaurants, coffee shops, and parks in Silver Spring.
