Find your Groove in Ocean Beach
Just north of Point Loma, this small beach town is a favorite among locals for its blissful mix of activities and pastimes, including surfing, sunbathing near the pier and strolling among the many surf shops, taco stands and unique local boutiques. Ocean Beach boasts a throwback vibe of vintage SoCal, coupled with friendly locals, great dining and microbrews, and a vibrant nightlife scene.
WHERE TO GO
The Pier at the foot of Newport Avenue is one of the longest piers in Southern California, extending a half mile out to sea. The Ocean Beach Pier is one of the few places in San Diego where you can fish without a valid California fishing license. It is now fully reopened after extensive repairs due to storm and wave damage.
Dog Beach is wedged between the Mission Bay Harbor Channel and the jetty at the north end of Ocean Beach. Here, pets are not only allowed on the beach, but are permitted to play leash-free with other canine beach-lovers.
This shabby Chic bungalow is walking distance to the beach, boardwalk and downtown shops , eating. Great outdoor space for BBQ and enjoying your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Free on site parking included.

Location was perfect, just a short walk to the beach and also to the main Ocean Beach area - full of bars, restaurants and shops so lots to do in the area.

Blue seat is only wide enough for 2 adults to squeeze into. When unfolded, extremely uncomfortable to sleep on. Felt like I was sleeping on a plank of wood. May work for a very young Child but we were 3 adult women.
No toaster, And no rack in oven so couldn’t use that as alternative to toast bread.

The house was much smaller than advertised, it said it would fit 5 people ( event though the permit hanging on the wall said 4) and I would reasonably say 5 could sleep there but 2 could actually function in the space. The floor also had gaps in the floor boards we kept tripping on. The house also had no A/C, which would have been fine even on 80 degree days, but there was only one small window in the living space so there was no air flow unless you kept the front door wide open, which then only helped a little because the. layout of the house was not set up for this - and because the window was open 24/7 the house constantly smelled like weed and dog pee from outside. It was a very inconvenient house for a family as there was no where to sit inside expect for the beds and the couch made for 1-2 and the WIFI never did work, which wasn't a big deal. The owner did respond in a reasonable time frame, but there wasn't much to be done with that. I have stayed in California many times and never had an issue, but this was miserable for a family home.

This property was perfect for a quick 2night stay for our family of 4! Loved that it had a parking spot for us.

This unit does not fit the definition of a house unless you define a house as one that shares two walls with two other units. The noise created from the two other units is easily heard, one of those units is occupied by a resident who has a dog that barks. The other unit is luck-of-the-draw on who is staying there that night. We happened to get one with an infant that was crying when we showed up in the evening ready for bed. I don't fault the parents, I fault the hosts of this unit for trying to stretch the definition of what a house is.
VRBO allows us to use “Property Type” filters when searching for a place. I always filter out apartments, condos, and cottages so I can avoid the experience that just happened. If you use the “House” filter on VRBO then this place pulls up. If you only use the “Apartment”, “Condo”, and/or “Cottage” filter then this place does NOT pull up. This place SHOULD NOT BE CATEGORIZED AS A HOUSE and when I suggested this to the host I was meet with argumentative statements that the listing is exactly as described and is a “beach bungalow” as if VRBO has a beach bungalow filter. They even have a placard right next to the door that says to be respectful of the other neighbors in the “apartment”..whoops!
No way the futon is a twin as listed and probably would not fit anyone over the age of 8. The floor is peeling from the subfloor and the subfloor is uneven with every step.
The host showed no care for my concerns and took a "sucks to be you attitude"

Really enjoyed the bungalow. Great location, very clean, comfy bed, and host couldn't have been more hospitable.

Terrific location, easy walking distance to the beach, restaurants, and anything else. Really excited to visit again.

This was a nice, clean place to stay with a great location within easy walking distance to beach. Everything was easy and we enjoyed our stay.

This was a very nice little home. It worked well for our short stay in San Diego, very close to what we wanted to see and do. The only downside was a homeless man sleeping in the alley near our car each morning.

We had a great time. Great affordable accommodations for our weekend birthday celebration.

Photos on the app looked nice, however when we walked into the cottage, we said, “this can’t be the right place!” The place was dark and dingy. The floor was slanted with separation in the floorboards (potential tripping hazard). The skylights were filthy with strange butterfly decals which did not allow adequate lighting. The bathroom lighting was also dim and we found mold on the walls outside the shower.
We immediately decided not to stay at this cottage and had to book another place to stay. We reached out to VBRO and the host to voice our concerns. The host thought she could fix our concerns with a cleaning crew. Our concerns went beyond the cleanliness and included safety and lighting issues.
In short the photos and description did not match the reality of the cottage. We were hoping Rebeccah would work with us but instead she chose not to.
We have visited the beaches in this area for over ten years and have never been so disappointed.

We spent most of our time out exploring the area and enjoying the beach which was a very quick walk from the property. There was also a great coffee shop near by which we enjoyed. The property was what we were looking for as it gave us a safe place to sleep and was close to many different restaurants, shops, and the beach.

The cons outweigh the pros unfortunately with my recent visit. We were within walking distance to the beach and restaurants/nightlife, however this aspect is the only positive from my experience. The unit itself has two sky lights that were poorly installed, as they leaked water all over our beds and the floor which my daughter slipped and fell hard due to. The subfloor in the unit was also in poor shape as it wasn't flat and had a very noticeable slope to it (if you've ever experienced what vertigo feels like walk around in here and you'll get a first-hand experience). Bathroom door was warped so bad that it wouldn't shut. Flooring was literally separating at the seams and were tripping hazards (or cut hazards if you weren't wearing shoes). Beds were uncomfortable. You're better off finding a cheap hotel/motel.

This cute little bungalow was in a perfect location, walking distance from everything but a quiet street. The off-street parking was excellent, no worrying about finding a parking space each time we took the car out.. I would add a luggage rack or two as the only place to put your suitcase was on the floor. And maybe a small table in the large bathroom. Loved having two separate beds.

I was surprised how quiet it was for the neighborhood. Very clean and super cute. If more than 2 people stay I would recommend bringing 1 or 2 folding chairs to watch TV.

This little house was perfect for my husband and i with our little one! The area was super nice and easy access to the beath. Ocean beach is an amazing place for food and fun! There is a target not too far away also!

The place was well located and it was easy check in. There wasn’t really a place to sit inside if all the bed were used, overall the place was a little musty. We really needed to plan our days totally outside the place. That said beds were comfy and the location can’t be beat.

Cozy place to stay in Ocean Beach that is close to coffee/sandwiches and the beach. Owner very responsive and helped with a wifi issue immediately. Only table is outside, which was difficult since it rained our entire visit. Bathroom light is also dim. Very quiet despite it being a quadplex. Parking is super close once you find the alleyway.

The property was just what we needed for our group of 3 adults to stay near the beach for a few days. Not really set up for dining in, but for breakfast and sightseeing it worked well, and it was great to have a dedicated parking place!

We had a nice stay. This is a nice little place to stay. Easy access to beach, restaurants and the airport. It was clean, with nice sheets on the beds. The seating area was quite small, but comfortable. The shower had good, hot water pressure. The light in the bathroom is very dim. The decor was cute. The neighborhood seems to be a party area, with lots of loud music and activity going on at night. I was mildly nervous about parking the Mercedes in the back alley.
We weren't able to log onto the wifi right away, but got an almost immediate response on alternative ways to log in. Which was very helpful.
All in all, it was a very good stay.

Family had a great time while staying in Ocean Beach! Easy to contact host, excellent communication, easy parking, great location. Ocean Beach has a fun downtown area that is about 5 blocks away. Behind building is a 7 Eleven and a coffee shop that opens early. A great little getaway, and taste of living on the beach. We will be back!

Me and a friend stayed here for her bday. It was a perfect location by the beach. And just what we needed. The WiFi was a little tricky but it was figured out and we were able to watch tv the second night we were there.

The space was as advertised, clean and met all my expectations. There's a nice little patio outside for eating, too. And the local area had some fun spots to grab a coffee or beer, plus a co-op within walking distance. My only frustration was trying to work with the host to add an additional night's stay to my reservation. I was told yes, but it never happened and there wasn't a lot of communication. Host says the system went down, and I'll take her word for it. I had made backup arrangements, so it was no trouble. Ultimately, I would still recommend the listing.

Being close to the beach is a plus. Neat place. I liked the sun windows in the ceiling that gave a lot of light. The bathroom light was pretty dim. I didn’t understand the instructions for parking as I am not familiar with parking behind the buildings, so, that’s the one thing that I believe would be helpful to clarify in the instructions.

The home is in a quadplex and the other guests were friendly and quiet. The location within walking distance of the beaches, shops, and restaurants was great. The home is clean but a little dated. It could use updated cookware. A great price for the location.

The cottage is definitely small but was clean and comfortable. Great location. Plenty of towels and a couple beach chairs. We made the mistake of entering the property 45 minutes before check-in and was threatened to be reported to VRBO by the host. If you stay here, just make sure to follow the rules with exactness. Our mistake but we won’t be staying again.

I needed a quiet clean convenient hide away - this suite delivered on all fronts. Communication with the owner was great. I arrived to a suite ready for my arrival and comfort. VERY close to the beach, would love to stay again if I’m in town ! Thank you!

Perfect for one or two people. Only place to sit at a table to eat is outside, but it is a lovely little porch.

We enjoyed our short stay at Ocean Beach. This property was fine, clean, well appointed, comfortable beds, nice covered patio. It gets warm inside during the day, but cools off quickly at night. Plenty of good eating places not far away. Easy access to Sea World and Mission Bay.

This place was perfect for me and my 2 sisters. There is no air conditioning so it can be warm inside, but we really enjoyed the patio to sit oitside which was perfect weather. Overall great location to walk to the beach or downtown OB. Plenty to do without having to drive everywhere.
