Everything was good, the rooms, the beds and kitchen with utensils. Cottage #5 Has 3 Bedrooms, and unfortunately has only one full bathroom. Wish there was atleast 2 Baths. The door lock had pass code and it didn't work as the touch display on the door lock didn't appear for tapping the pass codes many times. The management didn't replace the battery in the door lock unit, due to which we were unable to enter the property the next day morning when we went to witness the sunrise at 6am , and when returned, the door lock didn't show up the touch keypad, had to wait till 8:30 for someone to come up to open the door.

This is going to be long. I saw reviews that were favorable so I took a chance not staying in a chain like I would normally do, never again. This place is stuck in decades of the past, way past. We stayed in a room that has 2 window units for A/C, so we were either freezing or hot, no happy medium. The mattresses must not have been replaced in 10+ years. There has not been any remodeling (modernize) this room in decades. The tub & shower showed signs of wear because the pain/porcleain was worn off in spots. The interior of the bathroom had unfinished wood for the door & moulding (not good for a room that gets very humid). There was no fan in the bathroom either. The sink was outside the toilet & tub area. There was no trash can in this area, very inconvenient. We had to hunt for the linens because they were not visible. Why would you store them under the sink (cabinets with doors). Toilet paper was stored way in the back of the cabinet & appeared to have been there awhile. They had either gotten wet of just become dry rotten. I discarded many layers before use. The fridge was very small. The trash can in the sleeping area was the size you would see in a kitchen. We stayed nights & not once did we get a cleaning service!! The trash was overflowing by the time we left. I could not believe they had the nerve to leave an envelope looking to tip the cleaning staff. I would never stay there again. We never checked in or out because the office staff only works 9am-5pm!

Been going there for 40 some years on and off and enjoyed every trip. Nothing fancy, but very comfortable, friendly, and accessible to everything. Love it!

The cottages look quaint from the outside but are very dated on the inside. Old noisy air conditioner, a ceiling fan that could only be adjusted on "high" setting or off, a mattress that has seen better days, touch sensitive lamps (one didn't work), tiny bathroom, wood paneling, 1960's ceiling tiles. On a positive note, nice location & close access to the beach. Prior reviews on Expedia were very positive so I thought this would be a nice place to stay. Overall, you get what you pay for. It was cheaper than other options but not sure I would stay again.

Older Nags Head property. Nothing fancy but has everything you need in the Economy Studio Suite. Enjoyed our stay. Nice pool area. Short walk to oceanfront. Pet friendly appreciated. Rooms spacious and kitchen well equipped with large fridge freezer we loved. Economical.

Really great location in touristy Nags Head, steps to the beach, sand-in-the-parking-lot kinda place, nice pool, clean. Really should spend some money updating a bit, however. Shower/bath enclosure coming apart, peeling floor tiles, old carpet, etc. How about a new LVP floor or something? But--, very importantly- it was clean.

We stayed for a short, 4 night visit to the OBX and reserved one of the small cottages (two beds with an efficiency). The motel itself is a charming, old-school property that offers several ammenities and is located on the beach. Overall, the property is well-maintained and the staff were extemely courteous and friendly. The room itself is older (think paneling) but clean. The bathroom in our particular unit was quite small and a little difficult to navigate. I would recommend including some hooks for towels and small shelves to store toiletries and other items. If we had an opportunity to hang up towels we probably would have used them more economically during our stay. The kitchen included a full-sized fridge, stove, coffee maker, and microwave. We did not use the stove, but the fridge and coffemaker worked well. The plug for the coffee maker was not long enough to plug into the outlet, but we moved it out of the kitchen and it worked fine. We were informed that the SandSpur is in the process of being purchased by another local property, and there are plans to conduct some renovations, which will only enhance it. Overall, it was a good stay.

Probably the cleanest hotel room I've ever stayed in. I stayed in the 'comfort suite' that is no pets. No question it's outdated but I would say outside of maybe the bathroom everything is in very good shape despite that. The bathroom was super clean but the panels on the shower needed work. Cracked/not caulked etc. Dark spots on the wood floor from water. But we expected this already from other reviews and it was not anything that bothered us at all. We really appreciated the laundry line on the front porch to hang towels, the extremely short walk to the beach, that you can see both the ocean and sound from the porch. The atmosphere was definately more laid back than your standard hotel. I've stayed 4 places in the obx, and this was by far our favorite and we declared this was our spot going forward:). The full kitchen was a god send when you consider it's like 90 min wait at most restaurants and many refuse to do do carry out when busy (which is most evenings). No issues with parking. Location is pretty ideal. You are about an hr or so from corolla or hattaras if you want to explore in either direction or corolla as a back up for red flag days since that usually does not seem to be as affected.

The room we stayed was very spacious, clean and comfortable, and the fact that's right in front of the beach was perfect. They have a shower you can rinse off the sand to go to the pool. Staff was really helpful and friendly!

Old school charm. Our unit was a little dated, but clean and comfortable. Shower stall was somewhat small, but good enough. We stayed for 3 days and it was exactly what we were looking for. Deck area with chairs, pool and beach just steps away. Will definitely be returning.

Ocean front, walking distance to booty treats icecream, and putt putt! Has multiple grills you can use! Good clean pool! Overall a perfect spot for the family!! Will be using Sandspurs again from here on out

This was a wonderful stay for our fam of 4. The rooms were plenty large enough with a small kitchen. The bathrooms were small, but nothing that couldn’t be managed. The small kitchen came stocked with the necessities including a coffee pot, mugs, plates, pans, and utensils. This was super convenient for easy meals to bring to the beach or light dinners. The beach was an incredibly short walk from the front door! The pool was perfect for the kiddos when they needed a break from the sand. We loved the feel of the place, where people play cornhole out in the parking lot and help each other out when bringing in large loads of groceries, or heavy carts up the dunes. 10/10 would recommend for families! It’s not fancy, but we don’t go to the beach for fancy, we go for the beach!

Very old school. Air conditioning worked great. As others have said, it could use a bit of updating but it served our purpose. We didn't go to the beach to be closed up inside. The place is right on the beach! Staff was great.
