Nice huge historic house with lots of potential. Some of the other reviews mention the “ imperfections” but that’s what you expect with an old house. Adds character. If the owner ever completely restores I would love to know so I can come back and see it.
3.0 / 5.0
The house is spacious and exudes an old-world charm. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful rooms downstairs, the newly renovated bathroom upstairs, and the bright, well-equipped kitchen. However, the upstairs bedrooms did not match the elegance of the downstairs rooms or the updated bathroom. Some of the furniture appeared unnecessarily worn, and there was a noticeable 'old' scent in certain areas, suggesting they could benefit from a makeover. Additionally, the window frames and blinds were quite worn, which left an unfavorable impression.
Despite these points, if you value space and can tolerate a bit of an old smell, this house offers great value for the money. The host was very helpful, pleasant, and quick to respond.

This historic home was the perfect fit for our trip to Newark and New York. We had planned an aggressive itinerary so we really just needed a comfortable place to stay. A first for me was that the host also resided in the house which made it convenient for any requests we had. Tasha was very helpful and responded quickly to any questions/requests. What was unique is that we had total privacy.
The house is well over a century old and although it lacks full mondernization like central air, there are window units and ceiling fans that kept us comfortable in the summer warmth. I have some "experience" and staying here reminded me a lot of staying with my Grandmother as a kid.
If you're looking for a comfortable and affordable place to stay for a getaway in the Newark area, I highly recommend this rental.

I see the potential for this old house but it needs repairs before renting it out. One bedroom door didn’t have a doorknob! Walls were in bad shape with cracks and a section protruding out, beds were fine but the pillows are yellow. We didn’t have enough bath towels but when I reached out the owner brought us more. The bathrooms were cute but the rest of the house felt cold and didn’t have the homey feel yet.

location without a car was not the best. The stairs were a bit rough for the oldies in our group. Other than that it was great. Tasha was great, had laundry service for us at no charge. Responded to any of our needs very quickly. The home is very beautiful and clean. I would definitely stay there again( with a car).

We had a wonderful stay at Tasha's property. We loved the old home character & how each bedroom was decorated differently. We had a small issue with a leaky air conditioning unit & Tasha completely replaced it immediately! She was always available for any questions we had & is an amazing host!

The photos in the listing are beautiful but inaccurate. Be wary. We did not stay. There was no air conditioning and security of the back door was inadequate for the area. It was very dusty and none of the 4 of us wanted to sit on the sofa much less sleep in the beds. We went to the Renaissance and paid at least double. But we were happy, cool and comfortable.
However, it was stressful to arrive and discover these accommodations were not acceptable. We were lucky to find great rooms in a great hotel on a holiday weekend.

We were in for a family event for a weekend. We had a very nice stay. The owner might live in the residence most of the time, but she was in a separated upstairs when we were there. Very pleasant.
The house is very old and charming. A real relic! Some renovations have been made but some updating needed to be sure. It’s a nice neighborhood and a very large and livable space for a sizable family. Everyone was comfortable. Thank you!

This beautiful classic home is from another era! It is elegant and roomy and offers comforts you won't find in a tiny , cookie-cutter hotel room! The delightful owner lives upstairs with her adorable little Pomeranian (dog). She gave us lots of helpful advice, and even joined us for supper one night - at our invitation! Right down the street is a beautiful park, which happened to be filled with blooming cherry trees during our visit!
We used Tasha's house as home base for trips to Manhattan, even rode Amtrac up the Hudson River, and also saw the Statue of Liberty from the New Jersey side (at Tasha's recommendation) and were delighted with the experience!
We bought groceries at nearby Shop Rite, ordered delivery of Peruvian food , and ate in at a nearby Applebees. All were great!
I couldn't recommend Tasha's house more , for a comfortable stay near NYC! A more congenial host could not be found! We were very pleased!!!! Thank you, Tasha!

Six of us stayed at this house for 4 days celebrating grandfather's 90th birthday. The house is spacious. Parking is easy. Location is convenient to New York City, Jersey City and local restaurants and shops. This is a historical house that's over 120 years old with intricate woodwork. The beautiful hand-built hardwood floor does squeak.
The best part was the host. Tasha was attentive and quick to respond to all messages. When she learned that we had a small child in our group, she assembled a welcome package with activities and games.

We loved exploring the architecture of this historic home. Huge rooms, plenty of space for our large family to spread out. Nicely renovated and clean kitchen and bathrooms. Tasha was such an accommodating host, with quick responses anytime we had questions or needed anything. We visited over NYE weekend to spend time at American Dream mall nearby.

My family and I loved staying in this home. It is in a great neighborhood and has beautiful original woodwork, doors and floors throughout. The kitchen is large and modern and the bathrooms are nicely updated. Tasha was very nice and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend staying here!

Our stay was more than wonderful! The home is very spacious and has everything needed, plus more.
The owner is one of the best I've ever dealt with, always responds to texts/calls/emails and so quickly. Also very accommodating. When we asked if any coolers were available, since we were going to tailgate for a game at Metlife Stadium, there were 2 sizes left for us to choose. This is just one example of the many amenities available to us, which was great, so I/we did not have to pack shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, blow dryer, etc. There were other items for us to use, but did not, but was so nice that these were available to us. I should also add, off street parking was great, since we had a rental car.
The owner, Tasha is the best!! I'd definitely stay again, in this beautiful historic home, if I visit the area and would recommend it.
Thanks Tasha for letting me and my friends stay in your home. We loved it! 5 Stars!

Our family had an amazing stay with Miss Tasha in her home in the historic district of Forest Hills in Newark, NJ. Her home was charming & inviting full of charm & history. The home was perfect for an adventurous, outdoorsy family of 6. We were in town for a birthday in Dunnellon, NJ and for the Macy's 4th of July fireworks. We also visited the statue of liberty, Times Square and Central Park. Conveniently located close to all modes of transportation, whether you choose to walk, drive or take the trains you're no more than 20 minutes away. The owner Miss Tasha was perfectly available, a phone call or text away when needed while allowing us our privacy. We will miss having coffee on the front porch, playing board games on the stoop and kisses from Carmen. 😉 Highly recommend staying here!
