About this house rental
Wanna come stay at a cabin inspired cottage that sits on 23 acres of true seclusion? Here ya go! While this house is the perfect private getaway for you and the family, its location makes it easy for with quick access to the following:
1 min - Current River water access
1 min - Mark Twain - You are literally surrounded by the forest here!
5 min - Historic Doniphan
5 min - Full service float trips (KCs on the Current and Rocky River)
45 min - Irish Wilderness
No neighbors, no hustle and bustle, and no noise...except the critters.
Nestled in Mark Twain National Forest means the only neighbors are going to be on the wild side, wildlife that is. Quiet and secluded with only 1 family that resides on this rural road year round. You're going to want to stay here permanently.
There is beautiful, stocked pond across the way to view and watch but no fishing at this time. The property while surrounded by forest also has a spring and creek that run behind it. Keep in mind, the creek is very limited during dryer months and not suitable for swimming. The current river is so very close being only a mile away.
Cabin is located on a quiet rural road with a gravel driveway and parking area. Parking is allowed on graveled drive areas only. Please do not park or drive in the grass. Only 1/2 mile from Mark Twain National Forest Float Camp and 1 mile away from Mark Twain National Forest Deer Leap which are on the beautiful Current River. While you can easily access these on foot, it is recommended that you drive due to crossing a busy highway. Some parking/usage fees may be nominal at state managed properties depending on season and/or time of year.
The township of Doniphan is 4 miles away (5 minute drive) to provide options of grocery, restaurants, antiques, and some other shopping options. Depending on the time of year, there are local activities and festivals that take place. We have a "go-to" guide located in the home.
PLEASE be aware that cell phone service can be limited and/or weak in this area due to the terrain.
The space
This cabin was originally built in the 1950's but remodeled to accommodate modern needs. There are 3 designated bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, living area, full kitchen, and dining area.
One bedroom does have attached bathroom and another bedroom does have direct access to 2nd bathroom. 3rd bedroom has a designated workspace/desk area if needed.
Kitchen has been remodeled with granite countertops, butcherblock island, full size convection oven, full size refrigerator, dishwasher, large farm sink, microwave, coffee maker, and all basic kitchen essentials.
Master bathroom is a shower/tub combination with large walk-in closet.
Second bathroom has a freestanding, walk-in shower.
Dining area has large farmhouse table with room to seat 7 easily.
Living room has large oversized sofa and large smart-tv. Guests will be responsible for any streaming services as they are not provided by host.
While the house does have wi-fi, it is not fast by any means. (Believe us when we have tried to get faster speeds but the location limits this.) Wifi login will be provided in House Rules book inside property.
One of our FAVORITE features of this house is the screened in porch. It is relaxing to sit out here and visit while hearing only the nature around you.
There is also a patio area on the backside of the property if you wish to sit out under the stars.
The property sits on over 13 acres with no neighbors so the quiet is amazing. Guests are allowed to walk around the property but we do ask that guests to not venture past areas marked "no trespassing."
Important to note: We do want to let our guests know that this property is not on public sewer but a septic tank. Because of this, we ask that guests are conscious of the bathroom and kitchen plumbing. The septic is very sensitive and we do not want our guests to have a "back-up" situation...it's not a pleasant experience.
We ask that our guests read the House Manual to be familiar with check-in, house rules, and check-out procedures. Upon check-out, please make sure to turn off lights and electric fireplaces if used during stay. Property is to be locked up at check-out and keys returned to lock box. Any guest that does not return keys will be charged up to $400. This cost is high as we have to immediately change locks to ensure security of property and future guests.
Guest access
This property is surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest with no neighbors. It's quiet and just remote enough to enjoy the nature around. This property has signs posted for "No Trespassing" and we ask that you respect these for your safety.
Other things to note
Wifi is set up at the cottage but it is not fast. Yes, we have tried to get faster speeds but we are not eligible. Cell phone service can also be very limited due to the area. Some people have zero issues but worth noting it can be weak.
All guests agree to not go past any posted no trespassing signs. These are put in place for both the guest and property owners safety.
We want to stress that there is ABSOLUTELY NO HUNTING PERMITTED ON THIS PROPERTY. Any guests violating this rule will be charged fees for damage and disregard of property rules any all applicable laws broken.
