About this house rental
The Old Court House is located in the charming and picturesque village of Cerne Abbas, previously voted England's most beautiful village. Overlooking the village is the famous Cerne Giant, which at 180ft, is the largest chalk figure in the country.
This historic cottage, brimming with original features, and dating back to 1859, welcomes you with a well-equipped kitchen, and an open-plan sitting room with wood burning stove and a dining area. A pretty internal passageway leads you through from the front of the cottage to the back garden, and the rear porch area allows you to relax at a table and chairs with a coffee, looking out to the south-facing garden. On the first floor of this characterful cottage and off a large landing area, you will find the two spacious bedrooms, each with beautiful beamed ceilings, plus a family bathroom and a separate shower room.
Just steps away from the cottage is the popular village tearooms where you can enjoy breakfast, a tasty lunch or perhaps a delicious cream tea, and you are spoilt for choice with three pubs located on the high street, just a short stroll away, and a well-stocked village store.
This popular village is a walker's delight with an abundance of routes right from the door step, and as it is nestled in the beautiful Cerne Valley the views all around are magnificent, being a designated area of outstanding natural beauty. A stroll around the village centre is recommended as you will enjoy seeing numerous attractive cottages, many of which date back to the late medieval period, with the central street pattern formed in medieval times and still surviving to the present day, leading up to the Abbey ruins.
The county town of Dorchester is just 8 miles away and has a good selection of shops, museums, cafes and restaurants as well as two cinemas. Around a 30-minute drive away the seaside resort of Weymouth which boasts a long and sandy beach, shops, restaurants and seaside attractions, and the wider Jurassic Coast is within easy reach. The nearby town of Sherborne with its two castles and famous Abbey is close by, and just along the Cerne Valley you will find the beautiful Minterne House and Gardens.
The Old Court House is perfect for couples or family who want to explore Dorset and its history, and enjoy the delights of this unique and popular village.
