About this apartment rental
The Convento das Bernardas is a historic building located just a few meters from the center of Tavira. From its foundation in 1509 until the beginning of the 20th century, it housed nuns of the Cistercian Order. With the extinction of the religious orders in Portugal, the building has been put to various uses to this day. In 2009, by the hand of the architect Eduardo Souto de Moura (Pritzker Prize 2011), it was rehabilitated.
The project was so important that it was awarded the European Prize for Intervention in Architectural Heritage.
With a privileged location overlooking the Ria Formosa and the mouth of the River Gilão, the building offers a unique view over Tavira's centuries-old salt pans. The careful conversion, with the maintenance of the main structural elements, the original layout of the façade and the rehabilitation of the Gothic-Manueline portal, has preserved the memory of the place. In the words of architect Souto de Moura, this was one of the most "painful" projects of his career. Known for his reluctance to open windows and doors in his projects, in this particular case he was forced to open over 120 windows. "I've opened more windows here than in 30 years as an architect."
The Flattered to be in Algarve unit is located in the Salinas Wing of this residential condominium. A combination of quality materials, contemporary comfort and meticulous design together with quality infrastructures and services including 2 saltwater swimming pools, video surveillance, 1 parking space per unit as well as green spaces and communal areas make this development special.
Each of our units has an outdoor pergola where you can enjoy an al fresco meal or just relax and catch up on your reading.
For the interiors of this project we collaborated with the furniture company De La Espada and its creative team. The aim was to create a simple environment that didn't interfere with the architectural design. All the furniture designed by authors such as Neri&Hu, Matthew Hilton, Autoban and StudioIlse is made from the finest wood and upholstered with the best fabrics from Kvadrat.
All this just a stone's throw from some of the Algarve's most beautiful beaches, rich gastronomy and enviable historical heritage.
We are proud to invite you to discover our new unit. Flattered to be in Algarve.
