About this villa rental
My parents, french father and tahitian mother, built this beautiful wooden house on stilts 47 years ago when Mo'orea was encircled by only a sand road and there were perhaps a dozen cars on the island. It has been renovated in 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2020. The wooden shingled roof is covered with white tin which, when you arrive from the sea, is hidden by the trees. Glass doors invite you to the sight-seeing of the beautiful gardens and lagoon from the living room. The paintings, furniture, decoration and tahitian bedcovers contribute to the warm mood of this house.
The refreshing and constant trade winds on the North coast offset the heat while insuring the best exposure to the sun on the island. It also partially explains why there are fewer mosquitoes here than inside the valleys. The pure sea air, the tranquil lagoon, the calmness, the beauty of the garden and the character of the house, all will seduce you.
The location is very convenient. The trip to Pape'ete lasts 7 mn by plane, 30 mn by fast ferry, 45mn-1 hour by ferry. The house is also 1.8 mile from the golf course, 1.2 mile from the commercial centre of Maharepa (doctors, drugstore, bank, fashion clothes, souvenirs ...). There are 34 snacks, restaurants, galeries and shops, in a range of 3 miles. There's a grocery store at a walking distance.
Mo'orea probably answers more to tourists’ expectations than Porapora which was an American military base during the World war II. In Polynesian history, as clanic wars were frequent, Mo'orea welcomed defeated and fleeing troups from Tahiti. Captain Cook came at the end of the 18th century. Today, about 2000 persons live in Mo'orea and work in Tahiti. Most of the local painters and scupltors seek inspiration on the island for its natural beauty and appreciate the friendliness of its people. Some locals speak English, most speak Tahitian, one of the polynesian languages of the triangle: Hawai'i-Easter island (Rapa nui) and New-Zeland (Te-ao-tea-roa). The official language is french.
Night-time leisure: night-clubing (friday night only), going out for a tahitian danse show, restaurant with musical entertaining.
The golf of Tema'e, South Pacific golf, drawn by Nicklaus is classified eighteen wholes " by 70 ", admitted on the officiel circuit. From the five wholes on the mountain side, one may see Tahiti in the north-east and dominate the trail, of which 11 wholes around the lake of Tema'e, and 2 wholes on the islet of Tema'e, on the sea-side.
The club-house, with bar and restaurant, covered with a long and thatched roof (drawn by a polynesian architect), is installed between the lake and one of the artificial lake destinated as a practice over water.
Since smooth hills of lawn fringed with flowers have replaced the pürau forest and swamps, to the benefit of the villagers, nono (biting insects) have disappeared. A wonderful mountain spring provides enough water for the lawn and supplies the inhabitants (Therefore, tap water is very good in Maharepa).
Sports: hiking, horse-riding, golf, tennis, billard, body-building, hobie-cat, surf, ocean-fishing, wake-board, diving, kite-surf (class and location of equipment), upward parachute;
Other leisure: guided tours of inland Mo'orea, on the sea (whales, dolphins, rays, sharks, turtles), car location with driver, glass-bottom ride on the lagoon, course of tahitian danse, picnic on an islet, jet-ski, speed-boat, snorkle under water and get filmed (DVD), flight over the island with a helicopter, guided visits of Tahiti, trip to the islands by plane/boat/private yacht/cruiser.
Relaxing
Your life rythm, especially if it is speedy and stressfull, will be apeased by that of the island and the people. You could let yourself go to the indolence of the islands, go swim into the sea, borrow a book from the bookshelves of the livingroom, relax, do nothing! In the morning, you can go walking to the "chinese" (grocery store), incognito if you are famous, and cross the people of the village who are also going there by foot, bicycle or car.
