The good:
Dog friendly
Big private patio
Budget price in expensive area
Has the basics
The bad:
No elevator
Thin walls
Old depressing furnishings
Flickering lights in the hallway broken the entire stay.
Hot shower water available on 2/3 mornings. Not offered any compensation.
Small old fridge froze all my food.
If you smell long enough you can feel it used to be a smoking room.

Great location and great value. I would stay again.

Wasn't able to stay. Husband was supposed to have surgery the next day and it was cancelled. I pleaded with the hotel to move my reservation to the following week when the surgery was rescheduled. Even offered a letter by the surgeon. Was denied. Lost all my money and it was an emergency. Person was extremely unhelpful to me and rude to hotels.com when they attempted to mediate for me. Absolutely no compassion for my situation. I have stayed there before as it was very convenient to the hospital for my husbands pre-op appts but I will never stay there again. Now I have to find another hotel that will accommodate us for his surgery. As if I didn't have enough on my plate. Karma is real.

We planned to relax the evening we stayed there and watch some movies on Netflix. But, we were unable to get the TV to work. The gal at the front desk came to the room and spent over an hour trying to get it working, to no avail. We asked her on a possible price discount due to that issue. She said she thought we could make that happen. When I went to check out the next morning, the gentleman at the front desk had no idea of any discount. I tried calling later that morning, and the phone number went to a voicemail that said voicemail is full, and I was unable to get through to anybody. This issue still has not been resolved, so I’m not really happy.

This Hotel by far is the WORST hotel I’ve stayed in and I’ve been all over the country. DO NOT WALK AWAY, RUNNN AWAY! From dirty towels to damp dirty carpet floors this place was a dump. Besides the view that you can barely see because the glass is so filthy that’s all it has going for it. Needs a huge overhaul to bring this place to life. $2 for bag when you check in to keep your bags in luggage storage is ridiculous. Neighbors were loud blaring music. Smelled musky and old. Water leak in the ceiling. Run down furniture. Wholes in walls cracks in ceiling. There is no elevator so you have to haul your luggage down stairs. Please stay far far away from this place. With the pictures I posted along with my Tik Tok review. Travelers will have a real insight on how this place is. Save your money and pay more for comfort. They use one updated room to advertise but the others are trash and not renovated.

Place is ok. Clean and beds were comfortable. View and location are great. Free parking excellent but the room is very old and dated. Needs a remodel. No coffee maker in room. Budget friendly but could be a bit more updated. Very old and kind of beat up. Would stay again but I would request one of the updated rooms next time.

We stayed here for one night. Our room
Had a patio that literally touched the edge of the beach.
The property is definitely older and some - but staff were friendly & the room was comfortable.
The free parking is also a clear plus.
It depends what you want, how long you’re going to spend in a room & how much you are willing to spend.
You are on the Marina Del Ray and a few minutes walk from Venice Canals.
If I’m back in the area - I would stay again.

Hotel Review:
The accommodation has a distinctly old-fashioned style, accompanied by a lingering musty odor that detracts from the experience. The rooms are quite dated, and the beds are uncomfortable, making it hard to get a good night's sleep. There are no complimentary water bottles provided, and to add to the disappointment, there is no regular room cleaning service. The overall cleanliness leaves much to be desired, with the rooms feeling grimy.
On the positive side, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the check-in process was smooth, as long as you arrive after 4 PM. However, the outdated facilities and lack of basic amenities make this a less-than-ideal stay.

Was a nice place but needs to be update a little. Was quiet, some homeless people, 15 min to Santa Monica pier. Need to fix the gate going out to the marina, was a little tough opening the gate. Staff was extremely . No machines to get snacks, drinks, or change.

I have stayed in MDR several times and don’t know how I’ve overlooked this place! It is not super fancy and does not have restaurant or bar on site - but everything else about it is amazing!! The staff were super friendly and chill. It’s a great beach vibe as soon as you walk in - including the beach view from lobby! Bed was super comfy and nice size rooms that were clean and include micro & fridge. Definitely recommend a patio beach view room - I was on 2nd floor and loved it!! Walked down side stairs - right on a beautiful calm beach with volleyball nets, clean sand and nice warm clean water. Roped off area for kids as well. At night, the marina lit up and so great to sit out on balcony and take in the view. So many restaurants and/or bars within walking distance, it shouldn’t matter they don’t have any on site. There is coffee, tea and water free in the lobby. It is dated, but for the price, view and beach access - it beats anywhere I’ve stayed in MDR before. I won’t go back to anywhere else now. And free parking too!

The Foghorn is a big favourite of mine. I have stayed here on multiple occasions after flying into LAX and to use as a stopping point for meeting friends and family in LA. The accommodation is simple, as you'd expect from a motel almost, but the views you can get from the room are superb. Waking up and seeing the sunrise over the marina is what you want to see when in California! The rooms have decent balconies to sit out on and watch the rowers, volleyball players and general life around the marina. There are a number of eateries around the Foghorn, obviously Cheesecake Factory pretty much next door, and also a number of other hotels that have good food options. The bonus of having free parking onsite is another great selling point. I'll be back soon!

My best friend and I were in a girls trip. I loved the automatic door. Not many hotels have one and it made managing our luggage easier. When we needed towels they were great. The hotel could use updating but for the price right on the beach it served our purposes.
