I stayed in a shared room with 20 beds but only like 5 other people actually there. It was pretty chill, great location and access to lots of restaurants and downtown Auckland right there. Lots of lockers including under my bottom bunk, just used my own lock and had no issues with it. Showers nice and hot, very clean space overall. Great big kitchen and the staff was awesome. Would stay here or another haka lodge again for sure!

I had a great stay at the Haka Lodge. I have no complaints with the facility. Everything was clean. It was close to so many restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. It was easy and convenient to get to the city or CBD as the bus is right in front of the Lodge. When our light fixtures wouldn’t work in two areas of the room, the staff as prompt in finding a way to fix it. I would say that I found the area safe. Where I come from, our homelessness and addiction situation is so bad, that walking around K road at night as two females was not uncomfortable and super easy as there are always people around. It can get noisy at night, but it’s the nature of being on a busy road. They also have a code to get into the Lodge to add security and peace of mind. I would have stayed longer if they had more room. I will say that if you wish to party, this is not the hostel for you. Everyone was very quiet, polite, and kept to themselves.

This is a great place to stay, staff are nice and friendly always willing to help. Bathrooms and kitchen get cleaned regularly which is good to see. The street isn't the nicest of places but as long as you don't interact with the crazies they don't usually bother you. I had a good time meeting a bunch of people here and would definitely go back.

Sat in reception upon arrival for 45 mins while two incompent "night managers" spoke in a random language messing my booking around. They then tried to palm me off into a room with more people which was less than what i paid for. Upon returning to rwception i spent another 15 mins waiting for an outcome. I was told if i wanted to leave i could have a partial refund...what a joke. It was then discovered a person in the room id booked has overstayed 2 nights. When rhey were finally moce they refused to even change the sheets. Finally after they did change them when i entered the room i was hassled by other room users "why did you make our friend move".
Disgusting mangement behaviour and such a shiz experience for a night away in the city.
Upon returning from the concert i missed some of due this hold up, the room entrance was wide up and a key was in the door.
Beyond a joke.

We had a private room and bathroom and it was FREEZING cold even with the plug-in radiator… there are a lot of sketchy people hanging around just outside the hostel so I wouldn’t stay here as a solo female traveller. The road is very very noisy with sirens, music, people shouting and fighting etc…
We wouldn’t recommend this place to a chill couple wanting to visit the city

Great location in terms of proximity to restaurants. ~15 min walk from Intercity bus drop and 30 min walk from the water. Friendly staff, quiet. Great room!

The hostel is great however try request a room that isn't facing k road as the street noise was unbelievably loud and I didn't get any sleep. The bunk bed was very comfortable, great quality pillow with protector on it, cosy and not creaky. The bathroom was clean and towel provided in each individual toilet/sink. Free WiFi, no lift, so had to carry up heavy bag up the stairs but that's ok for me, maybe not for others.

Starting with the positives, the staff at the Haka Lodge was friendly, responsive to emails, and made our late check in easy. Our room was decent and the heater was powerful.
Unfortunately, one of the main reasons we stayed here was to have access to common spaces like a kitchen and lounge. These weren't really usable as there are A LOT of long term guests at this time and the area is too small to accommodate them all.
The fridges and food storage areas were overflowing and were not cleaned while we were there (the fridges supposedly get cleaned on Wednesdays but the curdled milk that expired a month before was still there when we checked out.) When we asked about the state of things we were told to just "try and find a spot" for our stuff.
If you are a WHV holder looking for a place to meet people and find a job, this may be a great place for you. If not, you may be disappointed.
On a related note, because there are so many people around all the time the WiFi isn't really fit for purpose. Made things difficult as I couldn't even pull up google maps or check my mail.

Great receptionists, really lovely and helpful.
The room I stayed in was a pigsty, someone must have been staying long term and thier stuff was everywhere. Someone had stolen my pillow so I had to go and track down a staff member to try and get another one, lucky the staff member was awesome and found one for me. Bathrooms ok, kitchen pretty good.

I love this place, so much so I booked more nights. The staff go above and beyond to help you and give great advice. I liked the privacy of the curtain on the bed. The place was spotless and there were always cleaners daily! There was free food that travellers left which was much appreciated!

Good place to stay near the centre on a budget. For a hostel it is excellent. I was disappointed to find stained sheets, however they promptly replaced them once flagged.
The family room is great with a queen bed on one side and bunk on the other. Bathroom is in the middle. So there is a little bit of privacy for each room.
My kids loved the bank had curtains. We didn’t use the kitchen much, but put some stuff in the fridge.

Terrible comma beforehand, mixed messages from hostel about towels & lockers. Arrival was fine even though front desk was closed before 830pm..inna big city just wow. Walls paper thin, noise from kitchen after allowed time, hear people talking on the stairs after midnight.
Sunday morning front desk girl was lovely to chat to and sorted everything for. Pre booking assistant manager needs to learn email equite.
