Let's start with the positive aspects:
1 Beautiful setting on a west facing hill overlooking the sea
2 Staff is friendly and very helpful
Now to the not so good:
1 The culvert concept is obviously minimalist but even so the space could have been better organised
2 The first culvert we occupied for one night was sloping the wrong way so the water from the shower ran away from the drain
3 The aircon was provided with a non original remote that could only turn it on or off but couldn't set the temperature or other features
4 We manage to displace the key card for the cabin, which normally is not a problem in a hotel - they just give you a new one, but here they wanted to charge 35 for a replacement card, luckely we did find it again
5 The breakfast included was limited to say the least and to get the full (but limited selection) need to come before 9 am.

The Culvert is a lovely, peaceful resort on the coast with great views out over the bay. It is clean and well looked after and the staff are very friendly and kind. It is very hot and there are mosquitoes so long sleeves and lightweight trousers advisable. Only marginally cooler at night so no need for warm clothes. All the cabins have aircon.
The sun is VERY hot, this is not a sun bathing resort. The UV index was saying Extreme so pack strong suncream, especially if you go on any excursions.
Bottled water is freely available.
The restaurant food is very good, not too expensive. There aren't many veggie options, but the staff were willing to adapt some dishes to accomodate.
The pools are clean and well cared for, and very welcome in the heat. Apparently there are salt water crocodiles in the area (though we didn't see any) so the pool is probably the safer option!
It's around 100/150 ringetts for a cab from the airport (2023) though there may be additional fees per person. The city of Kuching is about an hour away if you need more excitement and shopping. The food there is super cheap and very good.
A great place to chill if you want a quiet holiday :-)

This is a really unique place with a beautiful private beach. You get there and your first thought is wow this is so cool. Then after a while you think, wait this is kinda like camping. But then you come to the conclusion that camping is awesome and this place has so much to offer in its little package. The food is a little limited, especially with fruits and veggies. The room itself has enough space but needs more creative solutions for storage. Bedroom turnover is impractical but we would have appreciated more bathroom supplies. We really enjoyed the beach, less so the pool. Overall it was well worth it despite my nitpicking.

This hotel was just something very different and we loved it! We've told all our friends about it since we got back! There's not much space in the room admittedly, which completely suited us, but for some people this may be a struggle, particularly if you have lots of luggage or children. If you're travelling light and solo/couple, this place is lovely. There is a nice infinity pool. Breakfast was ok. It was nice being in the tranquil jungle. It is quite a long drive from the airport, but was relatively cheap to get there. Overall, a few good experience for a few days!

It more suitable for couple or youngsters, as it was not kids friendly, as the safety for kids is low. My youngest son fall from pool while sitting on the side and high on floor full of sharp stones, luckily no needle need for the wound. As for the breakfast, it was expensive for my kid as I pay my 5 years old boy breakfast and not much choices to take. It's a place not suitable for family with kids, but might be good for couples.

Arrived to concrete capsule “hotel” after rain. Concrete “drainpipe-rooms” were damp and smelling mouldy. We had booked three nights, discussed dampness issue with hotel management after first night. Manager contacted Expedia/hotels.com to cancel and refunded two nights. Credit to manager. We learnt concrete capsules are not sealed against environment. Unless correct protection is applied to concrete this is worrying for structure ..... and health.
If you want a gimmicky experience, with a 6 square meter “capsule”, no convenience (e.g. no table, no chair, no clothes rack, etc) no privacy and very few options for food or transportation but pay a premium price for Borneo accommodation The Culvert is for you. We experienced and at first opportunity checked out.

We like the unique architecture and landscape, but we didn’t like the fact there is quite a bit of mosquitos around...

Pretty good stay. Loved the infinity pool, steps to the beach and the massage I got from the spa. Only dislike is the food served at the restaurant. Menu is limited. Needs local cuisine incorporated in the menu too.

The concept of hotel is very cool, feels nice and trendy. The staff was helpful to arrange alternative pick up for us to take us to the Cultural Village when the local driver of the hotel was busy.
Few things that were not to my liking:
Breakfast was poor - even basic yogurt and granola was missing. Food overall was bad quality, they are doing a western type food, but they dont know how to cook it. I asked for a medium steak, I got a burned one. I d suggest to switch the focus to nalaysian food, or do a fusion, the western food just doesn’t work.
Seating in the restaurants is terrible, they have wooden benches, not comfortable at all- you eat and you leave, not a place to relax.
The pool by the beach was kind of closed, we couldn’t figured that one out.
Also the airport transfers are slightly expensive, we got a local driver for half the price that the hotel was asking

I’m happy with the place. Quiete n away from town. Room was nice small and comfortable enough. Good for relaxing but only thing it’s a little away from town. Overall I am very satisfied with this place.

It's quite the experience staying at The Culvert. They've made a very niche hotel that is comfortable and quiet, especially considering that you are staying in a culvert! One downside was our hot water never got quite hot enough for a pleasant shower. The breakfast was great and the ambiance offered a once in a lifetime experience. Great place to stay for a couple of days and meet some cool people.
