Waters that fall upon and flow through the Old Hickory Lake watershed make their way to an impounded section of the Cumberland River known as Old Hickory Lake, a reservoir created by an Army Corps of Engineers dam in 1954. The reservoir and watershed are named for the nation’s seventh president, Andrew Jackson, whose nickname was Old Hickory. Situated only 15 miles from Nashville, Old Hickory Lake offers plenty of recreational activities such as camping, boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, cycling, and much more.
The community of Old Hickory is a residential area situated on Old Hickory Lake. In the past, it used to be the site of a DuPont gunpowder plant dating back to the 1900s. The neighborhood grew around the factory. Nowadays, the area features amenities such as the Old Hickory Country Club, sandy Old Hickory Beach, soul food and sports bar restaurants. Additionally, during the spring until fall season, visitors can enjoy shopping at the weekly Old Hickory Village Farmers Market.

We had 3 nights booked for a business trip. On the first and third nights our sleep was completely disrupted by constant chirping on several of the dectors throughout the unit. We notified the management team after night 1 and informed them of the problem. Initial delayed response was to call 911 and immediately evacuate!! The chirping was NOT due to smoke or carbon monoxide, it was malfunctioning detectors. We were never notified of any investigation or problem solving but night 2 was quiet. Night 3 started once again upon our arrival home after an all day business event. Started again in the garage and by 3 am, outside our bedroom. In summary, we book through VRBO to avoid these kinds of situations. Needless to say we are exhausted and very displeased in Grand Welcome’s response to the particular problem with this unit. In summary, I certainly would not recommend this unit as we were willing to pay more for what would suggest a higher quality accommodation.
