Freundliches Personal.
Das Abendessen im Restaurant war super.
Das Bad war in keinem guten Zustand. Unter anderem war der Toilettensitz war defekt.

I liked the location of the hotel. Unfortunately, this was the only positive aspect of my stay.
Usually, my experience is that a hotel with a poor to moderate rating appears to be not that bad as expected, but unfortunately this time is different. The poor rating is fully justified.
Although the hotel should be a non-smoking hotel, the smell of cigarettes was all over the place. Moreover, cigarette smoke seemed to enter the hotel room directly through the ventilation system in the bathroom. The mattres was too soft for me. In the morning, when I went down, my breakfast (bread, yoghurt, marmelade, cheese and meat) was already standing on the table, although I had not told the lady of the hotel at what time I would like to have breakfast. I was even more stunned, when I saw that a dog was walking around in the same room where my breakfast (cheese and salami not covered by some plastic foil) had been waiting for me. The hostess did not ask if I had a pleasant stay. I will not give the lowest score, because the shower was okay (which is a very important factor for me) and the night was silent (which may be different during top season), but I cannot give more than a 3.

The stairways were very steep and no lift which is no good for anybody with walking difficulties. However people were friendly and spoke good English. A definite must for the more adventurous traveller.
Access was arkward but this is a listed building so a lift cannot be installed. This should be better publicised.

Challenging for people with mobility issues. Payment only by German card or cash

This is a special place to stay - in a good way! An ancient well-kept building where the level of the river Rhein sometimes rises over the whole first floor. Not very often so don't worry! Mainly a restaurant with some rooms in the upper floors - reachable via a very narrow and steep staircase. Not for ones with walking problems but a really cozy place for most.
Breakfast was quite decent although some previous guests have complained.
Very friendly personnel and our dog was very welcome.
The pillows were quite big - I like it when there is smaller one for sleeping and a bigger one for leisure/reading in bed.

The dinner was delicious with large portions

ceiling high is approx 185cm, if you’re tall it feels very claustrophobic. light in the hallway was broken, had to use my phone. bin in the bathroom hadn’t been emptied.

Staff wonderful! Also a very personal service. Has a nice restaurant & own (home-made) ice cream parlor. The breakfast was huge, with large bouquet of fresh roses on each table - wonderful little touches. The building is over 500 years old and at a perfect location. Bathroom large & very modern - missing hooks or place to hang robe/clothes/ towels.
Spotlessly clean!
VERY TRICKY STAIRCASE! This building is 500 years old and the stairs are very small & twisty - very "dangerous" for me with a bad knee - I do not recommend it for the elderly. Even the young men & women (other hotel quests) had a hard time with stairs after they came in in the evening after drinking. Closing & locking doors very loud & could hear the (loud) men in rooms next door. Could hear everything going on in the hallway.
Bathroom large & very modern - missing hooks or place to hang robe/clothes/ towels. Remember to bring your own washcloth! Soap dispensers also just laying on the sink & on the floor in the shower -- I am sure they will be installing the holders for them soon, though.
Beds: very low to ground, so again, harder for us older folks. Mattress was a bit lumpy but very soft. I did sleep well (except for the other guests coming in at night- they were loud & "visited" each other several times--- not the hotel's fault.
