No lunchtime food option without driving to it

View, food, staff, setting
Would have liked a mini frig….maybe some ice available but overall, it was awesome.

Food was good. We would have liked coffee choice that wasn't a dark roast.
Since we couldn't bring our wine downstairs, two chairs in our room would have been nice.

The Craignair Inn by the Sea is an "old world" inn in a remote and interesting coastal area of Spruce Head, Maine. Constructed in 1927-1930 it served as housing for the local quarry workers on Clark Island and became an inn in 1947. It sits at the head of the causeway over to Clark Island which is a nature preserve owned by the Maine Heritage Coast Trust. The inn is like a big lodge and has a restaurant called "The Causeway" which serves dinner and closed on Mon-Tues, two of our nights there. We booked a "King Superior Suite with Ocean View and got a very pleasant "end of the house/corner suite with a bedroom, bathroom and sitting room. It was sparsely furnished, which we like, and had a small refrigerator and expresso machine (which we don't like) instead of a Keurig. All of the rooms had windows with screens and there was no A/C. We loved having the fresh air and our ocean view overlooked the causeway and Clark Island. It was very pleasant. There was a ceiling fan but it made so much noise that we didn't use it. There was, also, a smaller fan that we did not have to use because of cooler temperatures and having our screen windows open. The bathroom was small and the toilet was very low with very little leg room between it and the shower. Taller guests have to be "side-sitters." There is a breakfast selection sheet that you fill out each day with a variety of choices. There are not meat choices for breakfast. The homemade biscuits are very dense and don't toast up well so you have crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside. Eggs come poached, scrambled or fried and served on a couple of pieces of lettuce. Blueberry pancakes were good. Oatmeal was thick and filling. Plain yogurt wasn't offered with any fruit but we asked for blueberries and it was much better than without them. Greg and Lauren are nice innkeepers. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here very much and would not hesitate to return again.
Noisy ceiling fan that rendered it unusable. Very low sitting toilet. Expresso maker in room instead of a Keurig and no decaf option.

It was a beautiful location and the staff were wonderful.

Very tasty breakfasts. Beautiful scenery.
A real "getaway".
Only issue, for room without an on-site, the bathroom is at the other end of the hallway.

A gem. A quiet and peaceful location with a fabulous restaurant. A view of the harbor with lawn chairs inviting a morning cup of coffee or evening beverage. Very clean and efficient establishment w/meals that exceeded our expectations. The causeway to Clark's Island and several small sandy patches of beach was within a two minute walk. Loved it here, just need to book more than one night!

The location was what attracted us to the Craignair Inn. It sits at one end of a causeway that leads to Clark Island, a beautiful conserved island in Wheeler Bay. The Inn’s updated decor and pristine grounds were terrific, and the the innkeepers Greg and Lauren were attentive and most gracious. The food at the Causeway Restaurant was out of this world!

Beautiful inn with amazing restaurant in a magical location! Will definitely visit again.

Is was such a peaceful and convenient location. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. We loved relaxing on the back porch. It rained while we were there so the covered porch made it possible to be outside for evening drinks and food. We enjoyed the great vibes at this special place.
Nothing.

Great meals and friendly staff. Location next to the causeway is ideal.

Beautiful location by the ocean with tons of amenities-- hiking, swimming, lounging, eating on site or just out the front door. Gracious, dog-friendly hosts, super clean rooms. Food was delicious.

This is an extraordinarily beautiful location with easy access to hiking at the Clark Island Preserve. The Inn is a charming old boarding house, and is managed with a great deal of personal care by the owners. They went out of their way to help us with dinner reservations and changes to our travel plans, and were always friendly and accommodating.
I wish that I could afford to stay longer : )

Location, location, location! Great views from the room. Great details to make our stay comfortable: doggy basket with treats, towels, plates and mat, alarm clock with various relaxing sounds, black makeup towel (so white towels don't get dirty), recycling bags, plenty of shampoo, gel and conditioner in the shower.
There's plenty of outdoor seating to social distance.
Dinner outside is magical, with delicious food and chill music.
The beach is a step away, perfect for a relaxing weekend.
Restaurant service is slow, but worth the wait.

Beautiful setting, great mid-Maine location. Quiet, peaceful ambience. Look forward to returning in the future.
