About this house rental
A one of a kind beach house overlooking Wellfleet Harbor. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic ocean views with a private sandy beach just steps away. The Beach Castle is a classic beach house, providing guests with a true beach stay experience we would describe as “rustic elegance.”
The historic house is a Wellfleet landmark that was originally built and owned by Captain Lorenzo Baker, founder of the United Fruit Company, and known as the “Banana King.” It has been in our family since 1947.
The front porch provides stunning views in three directions. A quiet place to relax in the shade and enjoy the ocean breeze, while remaining connected to those on the beach and in the front yard. The perfect spot for hors d'oeuvres and cocktails or dinner, or to enjoy one of Wellfleet’s beautiful sunsets, the porch will quickly become your favorite spots on the property.
The house boasts six bedrooms. The only bedroom on the ground floor has a full bed and private deck, and provides a space for guests who do not wish to climb the stairs. The second floor has two master bedrooms: the main room overlooking the harbor, with a king bed and two twins, and another above the kitchen overlooking the front yard, with a queen bed and one twin. A third room at the top of the stairs has a twin bed and a pull-out trundle bed, and is a perfect room for small children. The final room on the second floor is the “lower tower.” It has a full bed, and an open stairway leading to the final room on the third floor, the “tower,” a circular room with two twin beds that has 24 windows, giving the guest a 360 view of the harbor and dunes surrounding the property. It is a most unforgettable place to sleep and wake up. The house has two full bathrooms, both with stand up showers, one downstairs adjacent to the kitchen and bedroom, and one on the second floor.
Because of the building laws that have been enacted since the house was built, it is the closest house to the beach on Chequessett Bluff, and along with the 200 feet of private beach in front, gives the feeling of having the bluff and the harbor all to yourself.
Chequessett Yacht and Country Club, with a full nine hole golf course, tennis and sailing, is a short walk down the beach in one direction, the town pier and town center, with restaurants and shops, a short walk or drive in the other direction. Great Island National Seashore, with its beaches and walking trails, is a short paddle across the bay, or short drive by car. Ten minute drive to Cahoon Hollow ocean beach, home of the famous Beachcomber seaside bar and music venue. Opportunities for shellfishing, fishing charters, boat rentals and more are also available in Wellfleet. Beach chairs and umbrella, rowboat and kayak available to guests at the house.
The house is a three season structure and is not winterized. The downstairs rooms, including the living, are equipped with heat, providing plenty of warmth during the early Spring and late Fall months. The upstairs bedrooms have plenty of extra blankets if the nights become a bit chilly during these times, although the weather on the Cape is usually very mild during our rental season from May to October.

The beach castle is absolutely wonderful. It is a historic property, very well maintained, with breathtaking water views. We were 3 families with children ages 2 - 11 and we had a wonderful time. What else do you need when the beach is a few steps down your front door? Nothing! We highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to make once in a lifetime memories.

My family enjoyed our vacation at the Beach Castle. For years our kids called it the witches house and it was great to finally stay there!
The location could not be better, the walk to the beach amazing and the front porch is the highlight. Beautiful breezes and a fantastic 180 view of the beach, great island, the pier area and Indian head. The amenities were perfect, and the number of bedrooms meant plenty of room to spread out. We all enjoyed it and hope we can do it again.

It exceeded our expectations! It was perfect for our family reunion. LOVED the open air porch. Kitchen was very well equipped which our cooks enjoyed. I hope we are able to return soon! Thank you so much!

Great place to stay. The host always messaged me back with answers to my questions. The beach was wonderful but the best was the porch where I spent most of my time. My family loved the short drive to restaurants. We would love to stay again. I can’t say enough great things about the beach castle. Thank you for a wonderful vacation

We adore the beach castle and have had a fantastic time every visit. The house is authentic old Cape Cod, in a nonesuch location, and totally beautiful.

The property is gorgeous the front porch and kitchen perfect for gathering. The kitchen is very well stocked. The house has a wonderful rustic charm to it. The water could have gotten hotter but and a couple nights those extra blankets came in handy. Lots of reading material, games and an array of silly hats made for some colorful entertainment

We had a great stay! There were only 2 of us for 1/2 the time, and 3 for the other 1/2, so the house was much larger than we needed - but we knew that going in… We were interested in something unique, filled with character, beautiful, close to the beach, and close to ptown… the Beach Castle delivered on all counts!! The house was so much fun. We spent a lot of time hanging out on the huge deck with unbeatable views, and of course lounging on the beach directly in front of the house. The location made it so easy to get to everything we needed, and it was perfectly private at the same time! Totally recommend! We will very likely be back. Thanks for letting us stay!

Wellfleet is one of the most beautiful towns on the Cape and the Beach Castle is the most beautiful house in Wellfleet. Located on a private beach on the bay where Wellfleet’s famous oysters come from, the house couldn’t be in a more perfect location. Communication with the owners managing the property is friendly, seamless, quick and easy. The house is in great condition, particularly given it is over a hundred years old. Our family loves staying there and we can’t wait to return.

What a wonderful location! Loved spending all our time either on the beach, or on the front porch. Being on the bay side was great for the kids, and the water was so warm and clean. We got to see the oyster farmers every day, and have a taste at the local restaurants. House was well equipped, and accommodated our family perfectly. The house has a lot of history and is very unique in staying with its original design. People would often stop and take pictures of it from the beach! Really enjoyed our stay, our only downside was the mosquitos, but to be expected with the woodsy area of Wellfeet.

This property was everything we could hope for and more! Our entire group had such a great time! There were 12 of us all together and we had plenty of room for everyone. The house is absolutely gorgeous and the views are spectacular! My son and husband took turns sleeping in the tower, just to experience it. I highly recommend this place! Thanks to Doug and family for a wonderful family vacation!

A beautiful old cottage, well appointed with both a dishwasher and washer and dryer. The spacious kitchen and dining area was one of our favorite spaces to hang out. The deep sofas and beds were comfortable. Plenty of room for our four adult children, one son in law and ourselves. The location is private and serene. We spent hours enjoying the view and walking on the beach.
It is ideally located close to town and many local restaurants. The town market had delicious sandwiches and all the basics. Typically when we visit the Cape, we spend lots of time driving all over the place. This trip we pretty much stayed in town except for a ride on the bike path. We enjoyed the house immensely and stayed close.
We did visit ahead of the summer season and the wind was howling! We brought quilts from home which were necessary given the time of year.
We also brought board games which wasn’t necessary there are probably fifty at the house!
Everyone had a relaxing, fun time and fully appreciated the beauty and architecture of this unique home.

A cool spring stroll down the beach with plovers following one's footsteps; a drink and a sandwich in town at Winslow's Tavern; playing board games with a single malt and familial laughter. A day trip up to the National Seashore or kayaking in the warmer shallows off Mayo beach, feeling the warmth of the afternoon sun with a good book on the porch while the onshore breeze licks around the trellises. It's a timeless pleasure to stay at the Pilcher house. Thank you again!!

We rented the Beach Castle in Sept 2022 for a bunch of our family and friends to stay in for a week, and I can safely say that the stay was perfection We've stayed in Wellfleet for years in a different house and were familiar with this property because its visually unforgettable—but to finally stay inside was a dream come true.
There were 10 people in the house, and everyone had ample room. Doug and his team were incredibly responsive with getting us all of the check-in/out information. The kitchen was well-stocked. And of course, the proximity to the beach is unmatched: you literally walk out the door and onto the sand. Sunsets were our favorite part of the evening, since we could sit on the deck and watch the light over the bay. We are still talking about how magical it all was, and hope to return again.
1000% recommend The Beach Castle for any stay!

We immediately fell in love with this quirky, beautiful, time capsule of a house. Its location on the beach, with seals swimming in the shallows, horseshoe crabs and oyster beds to explore, was perfect. The dramatic tides, beautiful views of salt marsh and sunrise, all make it clear why the builder of this unique house located it on this spot more than 100 years ago. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, and the porch was our favorite spot for morning coffee or evening cocktails with the accompanying music of surf and birds.

Amazing spot! Have everything you need. Enjoyed every minute of our stay. Kids all ages loved this place, as did the adults. Lots of fun history and memories.

I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful property. We had a large group stay here and we all had a blast and hope to come back again and again! The kitchen was large enough to fit us all for family meals, the layout of the bedrooms were quirky at first but it added to the charm of the place. The heart and soul of the house is the porch where we spent mornings watching the sunrise and evenings watching the sunset (and pretty
Much every minute we weren’t on the beach). The beach was awesome because when the little ones napped you could still be on the porch close enough to talk to those on the beach. We had so much fun swimming, boating, floating and walking Mayo beach. Doug also was a great host and communicated quickly to anything we needed. All in all this was a vacation to remember, one for the books and it was all thanks to the wellfleet castle.

Our family of twelve had the best vacation/reunion of a lifetime! There were bedrooms to accommodate everyone. The porch overlooking the beach was the most loved spot for all ages! Having the beach right out your back door was so convenient for the kids.
On the helpful side, updating small kitchen appliances would assist at mealtime; better screening on doors would keep mosquitoes at bay; providing bed sheets for all beds would ease the hassle of visitors packing their own or using an expensive service.
Overall… the location of the historic castle with a tower on top, expansive low tides to explore, a private beach, and glorious sunsets created a “dream come true” experience!!!

The historic home is right on the beach of Wellfleet Bay and is private. We really enjoyed the location, kayaked over to Great Island, biked the Rail Trail, hiked at Cape Cod National Seashore, and enjoyed the downtown of Wellfleet. On top of that, the Oysters that come out of the bay (which is interesting to watch at low tide) can be ordered from Mac's on the Pier which is less than five minutes away. Overall, our family had a wonderful stay and enjoyed your beach house. The porch overlooking the water was our favorite gathering spot!!

We just want to THANK YOU for sharing your stunning Beach Castle with us. Every detail was a delight. We loved the signs, the quirkiness of the layout, the incredible deck, the beauty of the tides and sunrises and full moon magic. Amenities were thoughtful and perfect, and the whole flow of the sheets and towels and logistical “stuff” was intelligent design in action.
What a gem you have! We swear we could feeeeel the love and memories that have been shared there over the course of generations. You must have a truly fabulous family. Our brief stay was as lovely as your description knew it could be. Thank you!
Our love and blessings to you, your family, and of course, the Banana King, too.

The Beach Castle was the site we chose for a family gathering. Our week there was wonderful, perfect for children as well as adults. The convenient location, the calm bay water with wonderful high and low tides and the opportunity to take long walks on the beach (which was always clean) made each day special. Each of the Beach Castle's rooms were comfortable, quirky and charming. The first floor was spacious enough for quiet activities and conversation. And the view from the covered porch was amazing!! All of us felt lucky that we had the opportunity to stay in a place that had been enjoyed by several generations of the same family. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.. Sally

We had an unforgettable time at Jen and John’s place. The house is a treasure - built long ago, still with many original details, and right on the water. We hope to return.
