About this farm stay rental
A stunning and spacious barn conversion tastefully renovated to a high standard whilst retaining all its character. The main gite can sleep 14 people in 5 bedrooms and with La Petite Folie up to 18 people in 7 bedrooms. Tranquil village location but close to amenities, shops and many tourist attractions.

The huge open plan living / dining area is linked to a large, fully equipped kitchen with a Smeg double oven, a laundry room and utility area and a large wheelchair accessible toilet. The shady veranda area provides an additional dining area with a large stone barbecue.
La Petite Folie is a separate adjacent ground floor property with 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 people. It is ideal for the grandparents who would like a bit of extra privacy or those with babies who might like a quieter area. The main bedroom has an ensuite fully wheelchair accessible shower room with toilet and basin. It has a second bedroom and a second shower room and toilet. The open plan living area has a defined kitchen / dining area and double sliding glass doors leading out onto the shared veranda.
Please note that La Petite Folie will never be let separately so guests will always have exclusive use of the parking, grounds and pool whether they decide to book this property or not. Both gites are fully wheelchair accessible throughout at ground floor level.
Extensive gardens and lawns surround the building with plenty of space for ball games, plus a boules court, children’s swings and slide, a table-tennis table. The 12 metre salt water, solar heated swimming pool is very secure as it is discreetly fenced off with a lockable gate. There are a further 9 acres of meadow and woodland to explore including a small fishing pond and a 300-year old oak tree.
Both properties have Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, FreeSat for UK programmes, DVD / MP3 player and a hi-fi. There are plenty of books, card and board games and toys for all ages.
Our bedroom arrangements are very flexible and we will always try and provide the perfect configuration for each group. All the bedding is provided and an optional end of stay cleaning service is available on request.
We are very child / baby friendly and can provide wooden cots, high chairs, a baby changing table, baby baths, stair gates, potties etc.

Beautiful gite with plenty of room for everyone, indoor and outdoor. The pool was perfect for the children with a lockable gate to keep the youngest safe. Would have benefited from a bit more local information but otherwise a great family gathering.

The property is in an excellent location for a brilliant family holiday in a quiet location not far from many attractions for the whole family to enjoy and a couple of hours drive from the coast. Excellent swimming pool and other facilities on site. The hosts Julia & Eric were superb and extremely helpful, definately 5 star all round.

A large well maintained Gite with plenty of room both inside and out for our family of 18 stay. Julia and Eric were immediately on hand to handle the one or two very minor issues that we had. The property is well stocked with all cooking equipment and ancillaries. The beds were firm which meant a good nights sleep for everyone. There isn’t any air conditioning and the bedrooms did get rather warm on a couple of nights.
The pool was very good, big enough for all of us to be in there at the same time and our hosts cleaned it on a regular basis. There were also plenty of outside play equipment provided as well which we made use of. The property is in a tiny village but only about 15 minutes drive from the main roads.Overall we had a lovely stay at Le Pontreau and would recommend this Gite to other large family groups looking for a an authentic stay in France.

Thank you for Julia and Eric that where always close for any help.
Merci beaucoup !

We have just returned from 10 nights and have had such a lovely and relaxing holiday.
We were a group of 4 couples/families with children aged 7-16yrs, and all had a great time.
The gite is so well set up. Plenty of room and the bedrooms all spacious (each with their own shower rooms which was amazing!!)
We didn’t spend much time in the living area, but it was all well set out and plenty of space. The outside area was great!
A beautiful pool area with plenty of sun loungers and totally enclosed for the children. Lots of land to explore and a fantastic outside dining and lounge area with bbq (where we spent our evenings!)
Julia and Eric are lovely hosts, on hand for any queries/requests, and they have created a lovely holiday home that we cannot recommend enough.
Thank you! We did not want to leave!!

Perfect gite for larger groups
The property was very clean and well furnished. The layout was ideal for our requirements being three generations of two families. It is located in a beautiful quiet valley but with easy access to a small town by car. The pool was also clean and a good size with lots of inflatables provided. It was safely fenced off. The garden was a highlight - lots of space for games, treasure hunts and bat watching at dusk. Julia was an excellent host and the check in and check out were straightforward.

Perfect gite for large family holiday
An excellent spacious property - ideally locate for access to both country and coastal attractions. Would recommend as having all the necessary requirements for a large family (16 people ranging from 1 year 10 months to 66 years old) holiday - very good internal facilities, fantastic pool, large extensive grounds and very amenable owners. Nothing was ever a bother for friendly discrete hosts.

Amazing week
We had such a great week here. The Gite is very well equipped and has everything u need. Lots of space inside and is pretty impressive from the outside to look at too. My parents stayed in the little apartment Attached to it which was wheelchair accessible, perfect for them. We spent most of our week in the pool. What a fantastic pool, it is very well kept and lovely and clean. Lots of Water toys for the kids to play with and the little baby splash pool was fantastic, we couldn’t keep our baby girl out of it. The gardens are huge and so much space for everyone to play as had table tennis, basketball, swing and slides. We were two families plus our parents and we had plently of room for all of us.
A very friendly couple who were more than happy to help where needed. Wish we could of stayed longer.

A wonderful week in a fantastic property
We have just spent a lovely week at Gite Du Pontreau. The gite itself is spacious and really well-equipped but our favourite place to be was by the beautifully kept salt water pool - we couldn’t keep the kids away!

Just what we wanted!
The converted barn and attached separate gite were exactly what we were looking for for our two-family holiday, 11 adults and 4 children.
Plenty of space, inside and outside. Fabulous pool area, and large grounds for the children to run around in.
Only, very minor criticisms that a couple of our party had, was lack of toilet facilities in the big house, only two, one up and one down for all those people and lack of comfy seating outside. Other than that, all perfect and would definitely make a return visit.

Great sized property used for a stay for multiple familiesy
We have just returned from a week at this Gite. we were x3 families of 4.
With x6 under 8yos to keep busy the large garden and pool were perfect entertainment for them. Lots of space for dining, and an excellent, spotless BBQ to cook on. The pool is a great size, larger than previous villas we have stayed in with the smaller baby pool perfect for our 2yo to enjoy.
The surrounding towns of Couhe and Vivvonne were nice to wander around as well.
Julia was very attentive from the moment we booked, looking to make sure we had all the information and facilities we needed to make the most of our week.

A truly magical holiday!
4 families consisting of 8 adults and 10 children between the ages of 1 month- 10 years stayed at the gite! The facilities were brilliant, lots of handy items and things to keep everyone entertained. The pool was beautiful and there were local attractions to satisfy all ages and bank balances.
From booking to leaving Julia was super helpful answering any of our questions and ensuring we had everything we needed.
Stargazing was one of our highlights at the gite- I've never seen such a clear sky or so many shooting stars!
During our stay we celebrated a tenth birthday with a pool party and a surprise engagement. Safe to say we will never forget our stay and wouldn't think twice about returning!
Thanks Julia and Eric x

Amazing location, great house with ideal owners
We were with a group of 16 people, 8 adults and 8 kids and stayed for the first two weeks in July. The first week the weather was ideal and we lived the whole week nearby the pool. Everybody loved the salt water, much better then the stinky chlorine in most pools. The second week the weather was still good but less hot, so we went to Poitiers, La Rochelle (twice!), La Vallée des singes and last but not least the local feast in Anchée. We have great memories! But most of all we enjoyed the silence and the nature environment. The last night we just looked at the stars we don't get to see in Belgium. Eric and Julia, thank you for just being there if we needed something, and to fix all our little holiday problems ;-) We want to come back again, but as Eric said, France is a big country to explore, so we will be back, but in about 5 years and then with 19 people :-) Kind regards, the Belgian family from Hasselt

A fantastic, well appointed, spacious property in an extremely quiet and private location.
The house is excellent. It was presented in an immaculate condition by Julia and Eric on arrival. All bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The downstairs area is cavernous. However, the best parts are the outside eating area & BBQ, enormous grounds and fantastic swimming pool.
If you are travelling with young children this house is ideal. Julia provided 2 highchairs, 2 cots, pushchairs and most other equipment needed for babies and toddlers, which was excellent. The pool also has a toddler paddling area, which the little tots absolutely loved.
Cannot fault it and would definitely book again.

Chilling and Flying
Julia and Eric were perfect hosts - the gite is massive and well equipped. An excellent conversion in a really peaceful location which was ideal as we just like to take a week and relax. Just the two of us and so we had an incredible amount of space. The pool was lovely and we were blessed with terrific weather and so made the most of it with a BBQ most evenings. The sky at night is unbelievable - where did all those stars come from. Lastly we went flying in the auto-gyro and ultralight which was amazing - we flew over the Gite and uniquely for us we flew in formation which made it special. Thanks Julia and Eric once again - Colin & Karen Francis, Surrey UK

Fabulous pool and gardens
We were 3 families with 6 children aged from 2-10 years. The pool was fantastic, such a fabulous temperature and the baby pool at the end meant we could all be together in the pool and the very little ones were able to stay in as long as they liked. The grounds are extensive and we enjoyed a couple of great games of cricket and the children had plenty of room to run around. We also made the most of the outdoor bbq area. The only time we left was the daily commute for bread or shopping. The kitchen was well stocked with plates, glasses, utensils and we fell in love with the little lada and all its pots and pans. Overall we had a fantastic time in a fantastic location. Would definitely recommend.

Family reunion in France
We wanted somewhere that our whole family could be together. We travelled from England and New Zealand (via Austria), some flying, some driving .We did get a little lost right at the end but a very kind motorcyclist showed us the way.Ditch the satnav and use the directions given by the owners Julia and Eric.
We were all imediatly impressed by the Gite and were shown how everything worked then left alone to settle in. The age range in our party was from 82-15 years but this place would be perfect for younger children too.
If you are looking for lots of nearby restaurants, places to entertain you in the evening then this property is probably not for you, but to us it was perfect. We enjoyed the lovely pool, played boules, table tennis and took lovely walks. In the evenings we had leisurely home cooked meals/BBQ's sitting outside, then chatted and played cards etc. The kitchen is a pleasure to use.
On recommendation of Julia on where to go for a meal out locally we went to Anche to a new little restaurant Le Latino
no frills little place but the manager and his family were so welcoming and cheerfull that we had a fantastic night. We used the Super U in Vivonne (closes 12'oclock on sundays)
and ventured out to Futuroscope, but most days were happy to be by the pool.
This is perfect for a family/friends getaway to experience the real untouristy France and to put into practice your school french lessons!
We were sad to be leaving and all of us would happily recommend this lovely place. We have made such happy memories.

Perfect House for Large Families
Our family of 7 adults, 3 children and two babies found this the perfect house for our family holiday. It has good sized bedrooms and the most comfortable beds we have ever found in a rental property. The living area is very well equipped with plenty of sofas and a generous sized TV and DVD player. There were plenty of games, including basketball, a swing set, table-tennis and pool toys provided and the kitchen had everything one could wish for. The house was clean and tidy and everything was in good repair. The pool area was lovely, the pool heated and kept very clean by the owners. The garden was large and well kept and had plenty of seating and loungers. The owners were on hand when help was needed,(in our case, to arrange a visit to a garage for the car), but otherwise were very respectful of our privacy. The surrounding area had plenty of places to visit, the Monkey Village being a favourite of children and adults alike. The property is also only 11/2 hours from Puy De Fou, a theme park unlike any other. Other highlights of our holiday were visiting Poitiers, a lovely city to wander around and the Crocodile Park where the children fed the animals. We also went to Oradour-Sur-Glane, a memorial to a world war atrocity which is very moving and well worth a visit. All in all we found the house to be a wonderful property for a large family or group. It is a testament to the hard work the owners have put in.

Excellent house and very peaceful area
We like this place so much that we have been there three times already, one of them being for our wedding party - which was a success for all the guests!
The house is perfect and you can tell Julia and Eric put the time and efforts over the years to convert this barn into a very comfortable and well designed house.
We went with a few friends this time and we got to enjoy ourselves with a very sunny weather: whether it was taking a swim in the pool, eating on the big table on the terrace, playing sports outside or playing board games inside, it was the perfect weekend away from the stress of our daily lives for us!
There are also some very nice places to see in the neighborhood: Poitiers is a beautiful French city just 30 minutes away, with the futuristic and technological amusement park "Futuroscope" a little further away, and the "Vallée des Singes" (Monkeys' Valley) is a very nice ape-only zoo to go to!
Eric and Julia are fabulous people always ready to help us with our stays.
They have been exceptional when we organized our wedding and we can't thank them enough for all the help they provided.
It will surely not be the last time we'll go there, and we are very happy to have found this place!

Fabulous family holiday
Spent two wonderful weeks at the property with our family of adults, teenagers, children and toddlers. The property has been decorated and furnished to a good standard and provided all we could possibly need for our stay. The pool area is comfortable with plenty of sun loungers for everyone and just enough shade for when the sun gets too hot. The local area is absolutely lovely and spent many hours strolling up and down the country lanes - make sure you go and see the 300 yr old oak tree. Julia and Eric are the perfect hosts always there when you need them. Poitiers, Chauvigny and Montmillion are all worth a visit and not too far to drive. Photographs of the gate do not do it justice you will not be disappointed!

Luxury gite in sunny Vienne!
We've just returned from spending a fabulous week at 'le gite du pontreau' in Vienne, France. The gite is very spacious and has lots of rustic charm, with a large outdoor terrace and BBQ, huge south facing private garden and lovely 'sun trap' pool area. The owners live next door which is handy if you need some help or advice, otherwise you won't even know they're there! The gite is situated in a tiny hamlet surrounded by farmland and we saw hares, a red squirrel, partridges and a pheasant during our stay, most of them from within the garden!. Away from the peace and tranquillity there's plenty to do and see in the local vicinity. We had a wonderful lunch at a restaurant terrace on the banks of the river Charente at the Hotel du Commerce in Civray, lovely on a sunny day. For a more energetic pastime try canoeing down the river Clain from the canoe hire centre in nearby Vivonne, or for nature lovers there's The valley of the Monkeys about 15 minutes drive away. Overall I would give the holiday and the gite a 5 out of 5. The only thing that could have been better would have been to stay for 2 weeks instead of just the one!

Tres bien Le Gite
We have stopped at the Gite now on 3 occasions and each time have thoroughly enjoyed it.
This time we took another family and all had a brilliant holiday. It was an extremely relaxing week where we enjoyed the beautiful countryside. It is a perfect location for both walking and cycling.
The Gite is beautiful inside and out, its extremely well equipped and has plenty of space. The owners Julia and Eric are very welcoming and on hand if there are any issues. They are always happy to help. They have also provided a wealth of information on the local area for reference. The pool is perfect for all the family to enjoy. There is also a barbeque and outdoor seating area where we spent a lovely sunny evening eating al fresco.
I would highly recommend Le Pontreau, as would my friends.
We will definately be going again!!
