This was our second stay in this lovely, comfortable cottage with its wonderful views. Everything you need is provided... plus a welcoming bottle of wine, which was a nice touch. Hilary is an excellent host. We will certainly be booking again.

On reaching the cottage down the hill through the cobbled street lined with shops a cafe's, we entered the cottage and view over the harbour is spectacular.

A lovely cottage in a great location. Garth End Cottage was everything we wanted and hoped for - comfortable, well-equipped and well-situated both for walking and relaxing and taking in the sea views and everything else Staithes has to offer. Definitely on our list of places we’d like to stay again.

We had a really nice stay at Garth End cottage. The quirky cottage was set in a fantastic location in the centre of Staithes overlooking the harbour. The cottage itself was well equipped with superb views. A great place to spend the week

The cottage is right on the harbour so has wonderful views. Is a lovely characterful village. The property could do with some updating especially the bathroom and kitchen which, if nothing else, need a good scrub. Personally I would remove the niknaks as they are just collecting dust. The beds were very comfortable.
There is designated car parking but it is on the outskirts of the village up an extremly steep hill so for those with mobility issues this could be a problem.

Wonderful position in a lovely cottage

Fantastic location, could not have wished for better. Having stayed in older properties before Garth End was as expected, plenty of character. The only disappointment for me was the shower, the hose was warn and leaked and the shower head kept drooping. This in itself was not enough to spoil our stay, and after reading this I am sure the owner will get it replaced.

We arrived at the cottage during a rainstorm, but that only made the cottage seem even more snug and secure.
Hilary has gone to great lengths to make her guests comfortable. The cottage is well equipped with everything one would need and the views are wonderful from nearly every window. We were happy to just sit and watch the sea.
Staithes is a charming little coastal village. We left our car in the garage at the top of the hill, secure in the knowledge that it was safe.
My husband and I had a wonderful, relaxing short break and will definitely return in the future.

We had a wonderful stay at this house in Staithes. Everything was well prepared and equipped. We felt like at home immediately. We loved sitting at the window looking to the harbour for hours. We slept like babies and got up with the crying seagulls. It was a pleasure walking round the cosy village and make a stop for a pint at the "Cod and Lobster". We both were so sad leaving after 8 wonderful days. We do highly recommend the house. Thanks for a great time.

We really enjoyed our stay here! Great price for a great property. The views of the harbour were wonderful and the location itself was exactly what we were looking for. The beds were super comfy and the dishwasher came in very handy :) we would definitely stay here again, thanks so much!

Excellent views of the harbour, cosy yet spacious, well equipped kitchen and brilliant location.
Armchairs in bay were a little 'laid back' and tricky to get comfortable without loads of pillows. Sun lounger cupboard had evidence of possible mouse damage in the back of one of the chair cushion.
We were a bit surprised by an unannounced visit by a man, his wife and their dog to view a leaking tap that someone else had reported. Some notice would have allowed time to clear personal items, cash and wallet etc especially as they let themselves in whilst we were sitting outside on the lower porch area. Their dog was unknowingly and accidentally let out when I visited the kitchen to get more drinks. It appeared on the doorstep outside and then apparently went on into the village! I had no idea it had come from inside!
Also alarmed the next day by the window cleaner suddenly washing all the windows whilst my wife was napping. The noise and clatter sounded like someone else was in the house or trying to get in whilst she was alone at that time. Very disconcerting!
We have enjoyed most of our time here but sometimes the tranquility and privacy seems to get interrupted and we could have handled it better with more notification or warning.
On the whole with the weather being fair to warm and bright it was a great short break.

A second visit. Staithes is busier now than the winter months but this did not detract from the enjoyment of this interesting town and surroundings. Overlooking the harbour through the picture window is very relaxing

We had a wonderful time in Staithes and the cottage was lovely, and part of what made our stay so enjoyable. It has a lot of charm, plenty of practicality, and the best view over Staithes harbour. The only drawback would be for very tall people, as the low ceilings and beams might be an issue for people over 185cm. But the beams are all part of the lovely charm of thei cottage.

Brilliant family holiday. Lovely cottage in keeping with the area in a great location. Incredible views from the window overlooking the harbour and the main bedroom each morning. Cosy living room and well equipped kitchen with plenty of room for meals together. Kids really enjoyed the rock pooling/fossil hunting at low tide and crabbing from the harbour wall at high tide - the sandy area of beach was also a welcome bonus (all above effectively their garden for the week)! Great pub (the crab and lobster) less than a minutes walk away for family friendly drinks and food and a lovely little shop as close in the other direction selling kids toys/beach equipment etc at really reasonable prices. Deli/cafes/sweet/fudge shop on our doorstep with a fab seafood shop a little further away in the car park and a co-op slightly further up from the car park when we had to drag ourselves back into the real world for basics! Lots of walking opportunities along the Cleveland way - the first holiday in ages we felt we didn’t need the car. All in all an amazing autumn half term week!

An amazing location in Staithes, the views across the harbour is perfect from the picture window. (many happy hours were spent watching) The cottage was well equipped and beds comfy. The kitchen had everything you need but to note there is no washing machine. There are 2 great pubs a stones throw away. We had a lovely relaxing week.

Beautiful setting
Had a lovely stay in Garth end cottage. Staithes and the surrounding area is beautiful and with the benefit of a garage it helped knowing the car was safe overnight! Thank you!

Location, location, location
A great stay in this lovely, central old cottage, right on the harbour wall with terrific 24 hour 'Staithes harbour TV' just out of the window. Relaxing place, that has plenty of all you will need in a family home. There's space to sit outside in the sun and do not very much or plenty of good walks too. The butcher's now sadly closed, but in the village you are very close to the Cod and Lobster pub, a great deli and the fish shop and smokery by the car park is fantastic (+Co-Op at the top of the hill).

Quiet location, great view and comfy beds
It’s a little dark on entry and then opens up to a large kitchen, great sitting area and a light sun room. Upstairs one bedroom has sea views too. We so loved it.

Stunning Sea Views!
We've spent an idyllic week in Garth End Cottage with 2 of our granddaughters. The cottage is extremely cosy and comfortable. I've read other reviews which said the decor and furnishings are very dated, but we thought it just added to the charm. The bed in the main bedroom was so comfortable. One of the best I've ever slept in and the sea view from the window was amazing. The kitchen is fully equipped with all mod cons. We could've done with a washing machine, but only because of having our granddaughters with us and hated sending a bagful of washing home for our daughter to contend with. I love the fact that the house is set over 2 floors as well. We've stayed in several cottages in Staithes that are 3 storeys and it can be a pain having to go up 2 flights of stairs. The best room in the whole house has to be the cabin, with a huge picture window overlooking the sea and Staithes Harbour. All in all, an excellent week was had by us all and we regretted leaving this morning. We vow to come back during the Summer months.

Full of character in Staithes
We were very pleased with the size of the cottage by the harbour wall. Trying to get an impression of the size of it before we arrived on one of the street map tools, was impossible. We thought we might be getting a cute and tiny cottage, we were surprised with the space, plenty big enough for a family of 4 or 5, or two couples.

The Best View in the North
Super cottage with the most exceptional views. We felt sorry for everyone else in Staithes! Warm and cosy, comfortable furniture and beds and some of the best walks ever. Splendid stay and looking forward to coming back to Garth End Cottage very soon.

Perfick stay at Staithes
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay. Location was perfect, property was as we wanted it with character and equipped with all we needed. My wife and her mother loved sitting watching the harbour through the scenic bay window(and nosing of course). We would definitely stay here again., thouroughly brilliant.

Beautiful vintage-decor cottage with stunning harbour views
This is a lovely cottage, decorated and furnished in a charming vintage style. Well-equipped and comfortable. Stunning views from the sitting room, across the harbour and to the cliffs and sea beyond.

Lovely seaside stay
We had a lovely time again in Staithes. The cottage is in an amazing location and the children particularly enjoyed the ‘seagull room’ where we could easily see when it was time for crabbing. We would love to return ❤️

Charactor cottage
The write up for this cottage is spot on, old property but has loads of character and the position is perfect. Loved the snug I hardly sat in the lounge. Someone put in a review house was cold, it was deffinately the opposite, we had to turn storage heaters down or off. Tips on arrival. It's the third alley on the left after the pub and second house down. I suggest you go past to bottom of village right past second pub, turn round and then stop to unload, its scary if someone comes the other way otherwise as difficult for them and you to reverse. Thanks for a fab holiday.

A lovely place to stay
We really enjoyed our stay at Garth End. Spacious and interesting cottage that is well equipped and has the most wonderful views over the harbour.

Wonderful location & views
The best thing about this property is the location and wonderful views. We loved sitting in the sun room...better then the telly! ... the views of the bay are stunning, watching the birds, the changing light and the people....didn't get as far as I had planned with my book.
The kitchen is well stocked , the beds are comfortable, plenty of very hot water. The decor and finish of the house is quirky so don't expect super modern & comfort. The shower is a bit of a struggle if you are taller than 5ft 2".
We appreciated the welcome bottle of wine , that was a lovely touch. We had hand gel and wipes left for the current Covid climate, a spare toilet roll would have also been good.
Well placed for eating in or out. We dined at the Cod & Lobster (outside) & The George (inside but well distanced), both good. Dined in on 2 evenings. We can recommend the local butcher shop which is close to the cottage.
We really enjoyed walking from the cottage on the Cleveland Way. A visit to Whitby was the most worrying time in this distancing climate. It was too busy in the tiny lanes but we escaped the crowds by climbing up to the Church and Abbey. Its a great property and location for just staying put if you are worried about the crowds and taking local walks.
We stopped outside at the Captain Cook for an excellent paddle of beer after one lovely local walk.
On our return home we stopped off at Barnard Castle for the obligatory Eye Test! Seriously we felt safe in Staithes and this lovely cottage in this Covid 19 situation.
A wonderful memorable holiday. Thank you.

Disappointing holiday at Garth End.
Damp, rundown, smelly, cold (no heating on in the cottage on arrival,we turned on the storage heaters, but they take 24hrs to be effective).unloved,I don't mind it being old fashioned but the damp smell ,black mould, was very unpleasant,so gladI had taken water bottles they where needed on the Sat as the beds werecold and damp ,This cottage has one saving feature,The Large Picture Window, overlooking the harbour, which we had to keep cleaning because of condensation,,Our coats and other garments which had been hung up in the hall way have had to be washed when I came home as they smelled damp.I feel this cottage is very sadly neglected, therefore it is not serving the holiday maker,as a relaxing place to stay,I understand it has been in the family many years and they are used to it ,well I believe the holiday maker deserves better. We have stayed in Staithes many times but this is the worst cottage we have been in , if it hadn't been for the large picture window I would have come home.To cap it all I found a used baby's nappy down the side of the single bed in the middle bedroom, also the covers on this bed where very damp.I feel we have been let down by your company and the owners do you go out and inspect? The owners have a fantastic property in a great location ,please make it more comfortable for the holiday maker and of a sufficient standard to rent out.
