About this farm stay rental
The space
The 300+ square meter, 400-year-old Mas on the west edge of the Plateau de Coiron overlooks vineyards and lavender fields, and on the horizon, the Cevennes. Luxuriously restored first in 2002, then again in 2011 and 2013 with a new pool deck, new Finnish sauna, eight-person jacuzzi, new indoor and outdoor kitchens that seat 16, and a complete renovation of the adjoining barn, the Mas sleeps 16 in its six large bedrooms - five with queen size beds, one a bunk style room that comfortably sleeps up to six children in four large beds. Five of the bedrooms overlook the 10 x 5 meter heated salt-water swimming pool (no chlorine! But unavailable during the winter months as there is danger of freezing pipes.), the Ardeche river valley, and the sunset horizon 80km to the west. There are four full bathrooms, all with separate toilets (continental European style). The kitchen is fully equipped, ready for the epicurean gourmands, and there is a second, outdoor kitchen next to an outdoor dining pergola. The private garden is surrounded by raspberry and blackberry bushes, and basil, rosemary, thyme, bay leaves, verveine abound...
PLEASE NOTE - this house is made for families, NOT for parties. We consider anything music being played loud enough to disturb the neighbors after 10pm to be a party. 16 people is the maximum number of guests. Some of our neighbours have health issues and we really do not want to put their health at risk. We want you to be able to celebrate from the house but we have a STRICT NO-PARTY POLICY.
French law has an automatic fine for noise complaints each time the police are called. If a party disturbs the neighbours (they will call us) or the guest numbers exceed the number designated during booking, the security deposit will be forfeited.
Guest access
Full use of the whole house including the two kitchens (one indoor fully equipped, one outdoor with dishwasher, sink and refrigerator) and exclusive use of the heated saltwater swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna.
Interaction with guests
You will be greeted by Elodie, who cleans the Mas, and is a great source of local information. If anything goes wrong with the house or you cannot find something, PLEASE first refer to the information sheets that are placed around the house...they really do answer almost every question you could have. If something is broken, please let her know as soon as possible so we can have it repaired. She makes a good attempt with English, so prepare to practice your French (or have google translate ready)!

Monday: Vogüé – (July and August)

Tuesday: Villeneuve de Berg, Les Vans, Vallon PontD’Arc
Wednesday: Aubenas
Thursday: Vals les Bains,

Our favorite places:
Balazuc – Beautiful, and great place to swim. Much less crowded than Vallon Pont D’Arc. Other water sport favorites are the streams that descend from the Massif Central – towards Antregues, and Le Puy. Pont de Diable is great – go early to beat the crowds.
Villages: Our favorites include: Alba-La-Romaine, Miribel, L’Argentiere, St Pierreville, Avignon, Viviers, Uzes, Vals les Bains
Ardeche is the world chestnut capital. The beams of the house are chestnut, many of the trees outside are chestnut. Visit the 'Museum de Chataignes' in Joyeuse. Enjoy 'marron glaces' (candied chestnuts), or simply a salad l'Ardechoise (with chestnuts & goat's cheese!).
Guilleme
Bourganel – Ardeche’s local beer – you can tour the brewery in Vals-les-Bains. They make lager (blonde), and then several local varieties; chestnut, blueberry, miele de chataigne, verveine. Closed on Mondays.
Vineyards - There are many local vineyards, and local 'caves', (collectives) in the villages. Southern Ardeche is home to the Cote du Rhone appellation, the oldest wine growing district in France...try the Grand Ardeche from Louis Latour. You can visit Latour’s chardonnay caves in Alba-la-Romaine.

onze ervaring in St Laurent sous Coiron

The owners anticipated all your needs and wishes
We comfortably fitted 18 people including 9 kids. The house offers interesting spaces, from large kitchen for group cooking to 2 living rooms, play areas, the 6-bed kids room and obviously a stunning outside area. You feel like Brett and Rosa are there taking care of you as they anticipated all your needs with a fully equipped house.
Besides a couple of canyoning and speleology activities, we spent most of our time up there at the property, building amazing memories for our extended family. The young cousins will long remember this time together.
Elodie made everything very easy and flawless.

Peace and Nurture in a Wonderful Location
A spacious, clean and well equipped property in a superb location. We enjoyed a peaceful holiday in a rural setting with spectacular panoramic views during the day and amazing sunsets over the hills plus no light pollution giving the star gazers amoungst us clear sky views at night. The pool, hot tub & sauna were clean and well prepared by the "pool man" so when we arrived we were delighted by the cleanliness. After a week of intensive use, the hot tub was clean and clear because we used the bromide tablets provided in the outside kitchen storeroom. The lighting outside is discrete and allows comfortable moving around and outside eating at night. There are two massive fridge-freezers, one in the main well appointed kitchen and the other in the outside kitchen, so it's easy to stock up on food and drinks. Bedrooms are spacious and the beds were comfortable. Supplies can be purchased at one of two well stocked supermarkets within a 20 minute drive. Plenty of independent suppliers of fresh fruit, wine and local produce etc. within a 10 minute drive. Many great places to visit by car and a cyclists' and walkers paradise all around. We were so happy with the villa that we mostly stayed "at home", which is what this lovely villa felt like. A local representative of the owners provides any help or information you may need. We thoroughly recommend this villa to anyone looking for tranquility, comfort and a location you will remember with delight!

Fantastic spot
We had a lovely week here. Spectacular location looking out over the valley, and a short walk into the village of Saint-Laurent-Sous-Coiron. Nice walks up into the hills.
The house has been very nicely renovated and is a very comfortable place to stay.
We'd highly recommend the Cafe de la Commune, in the village!

C’est manifique
This is a fantastic property in a rural location that affords amazing panoramic views. The location is within a short drive to some beautiful villages on the river and scenic mountain gems such as Jaujac. We swam under the Pont D’Arc and endured a brilliant all day canoe down the river.
The owners have thought of everything, the pool and outside kitchen provided great convenience just to chill and enjoy the spa facilities.
We’d all definitely go back, which is probably the best review you can get.
The only downside...if you plan to nip on your bike in the morning to get the bread and croissants you’d better hope that Geraint Thomas is in your party.

Beautiful getaway
We often rent villas out in France and Spain and this was by far the best. Breathtaking views, stunning property and immaculate throughout. There isn't much local to the villa but plenty approximately 20/30 minutes drive. We will hopefully return again! Thank you

An amazing home holyday with a breathtaking view
A second stay off season in this beautiful mas. Despite the unstable weather, we were able to enjoy the new jacuzzi on the terrace sipping lovely cocktail after a relaxing sauna. A perfect home for a holiday with friends and family.

Charming, amazing scenery and region
Beautiful and charming property. The view and sunsets are breathtaking. 100km+ of unobstructed nature view. A unique place. The property is very well maintained and has a homey personal touch, it shows that Brett and Rosa really care for and love this place. the kitchen and equipment is top notch and well maintained. The region is wonderful. In the summer peak as beautiful and charming as provence without the crowds. So many activities (go karting, acrobranche, river rafting, hiking) and lots of charming villages with great food in the area.
We will be back!

Lovely place in a lovely region...
We had a really nice stay in this place! The house is awesome, everything was clean and pleasant. Brett & Rita are very kind and always available to answer your questions. The view is worth it! It's quite easy to make yourself at home in such a place! All of us were very happy of our holidays there. Don't hesitate!

Intimate immensity
Gaston Bachelard spoke of this idea in Poetics of Space, when we experience vast beauty and warm comfort within the same space, and this thought kept coming to me during my visit. From the edge of the pool there's more than 180 degrees of uninterrupted view of stunning rolling mountains. The home is incredibly large, spacious and solid yet still warm and inviting. There are all kinds of nooks to hang out in and read a book or spaces to gather together. It is beautifully designed yet still very natural and relaxed. This is probably down to the hosts who are generous and welcoming, and who take care of every detail. This is clearly a home not a house, and a very special one. The space is very private and totally quiet. If you need a reason to leave the pool, natural beauty and good company, there are also great markets, restaurants and fun activities dotted all over town. Evenings are best spent over long dinners followed by a sauna and dips in the pool then laying flat on one's back looking up at the sky literally filled with stars. Magical.

Quietude and charm
We stayed here for one week in May 2012. We were very happy with our stay. We were travelling with our 9 month old baby as well as 2 other small children and the house was quite convenient for that. I would recommend this property for families who are interested in outdoor activities, as the region is well known for its hiking, kayaking and cycling. I would also say that it is good value for the quality, as the area is not as popular with foreign tourists.
The house itself is located in a quiet village; we heard none of the neighbors the entire time we were there. The house is spacious, with a large pool area and a big lawn overlooking the sunset, which was beautiful. There are many plum trees on the property which looked like they would deliver wonderful fruit during the summer. It was great having the pool and lawn there for the children to run around in. There was even a small garden which we were able to pick fresh herbs from.
The rooms were large and comfortable, with plenty of closet space. It was a bit chilly while we were there but the heating worked well. We did a lot of cooking and everything in the kitchen worked well. We were only a group of 6, but the house could have easily fit more, and I understand the barn next to the main house is going to be converted into more rooms.
We were able to do some lovely hikes within a 30 minute drive of the house. Along the way there are many beautiful chestnut trees; during the fall this area is famous for its chestnut products, which we unfortunately missed. It was easy to visit the local markets for ingredients for cooking, and there are grocery stores in the next main town.
Overall we were happy with our stay and would consider staying here again if we were to return to the area.

Great Comfort, Charm and Culinary Joy
We enjoyed an amazing long weekend in the house in St Laurent sous Coiron and have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who is looking for a true French countryside experience. The area has all the makings for a perfect holiday: serene environment, a wide range of activities for all ages and great climate.
Foodies like us, particularly enjoyed the abundant farmer's markets where tapenade, cheeses and salami of all varieties (blueberry salami anyone?) could be picked up and aspiring photographers could practice capturing the perfect shot of bundles of asparagus and garlic strands. There are plenty of good restaurants in the surrounding quaint little towns or why not go straight to the source; tastings at the local vineyards was easily booked. If you have a sweet tooth, you are really in heaven; glace aux marrons, tarte aux pommes, and crème caramel, not to mention the proximity of the Valhrona Chocolate factory can offer you all the indulgence you are seeking.
The house (use a GPS to find it) offers as much charm as comfort. The size and layout allowed for privacy even when occupied by several families. We particularly enjoyed the location and stunning views, ideal for sun-downers and stargazing, the refreshing pool and having the choice of both outdoor and indoor kitchens for culinary adventures. The rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. For those of us who are not fully able to shut down from the modern world (or risk missing the Olympics), international channels and Internet connectivity was a blessing. While we were there in the summer, I would love to come back during the colder months to find comfort in the fireplace and sauna after a long day of hiking and antique browsing.
Before leaving, don't forget to pick up some local goat cheese and honey, a couple of bottles of Chardonnay, lavender and Savon de Marseilles - the smells are sure to make you want to return to Saint Laurent cous Coiron soon again.

An ideal location for a family holiday. Great facilities - rural luxury in an amazing setting of some of France's most beautiful scenery. Although isolated it is still close enough to get the breakfast croissants from the local village.
The house has every facility and amenity you can think of and more. Your own private pool offers an additional luxury to your holiday (but cold in September). Try the Beatrix Restaurant in Vals des Bains for authentic French cuisine on your travels around the Ardeche - rivers, gorges, mountains, forests, walks, water sports, villages, grottos .........One essential visit is l'Aven d'Orgnac limestone caves - one of nature's wonders with dramatic caverns and superb guides.
You will not be disappointed with this farmhouse in St Laurent sous Courin or the profusion of activities and opportunities available in the Ardeche.

Beauty and Relaxation
The farmhouse is beautifully decorated and a truly relaxing place to stay. The large kitchen and lovely eating areas make cooking and dining with family and friends a highlight. There is a breathtaking view, especially at sunset. The pool kept the kids entertained. We highly recommend this house.

Great landscape and peaceful environment
I loved to stay in St Laurent. The kids (9 and 12) were happy to jump everyday in the swimming pool & the Sauna. And they also enjoy all the other activities in the neighborhood e.g. canyoning and kayaking. My wife enjoy the peaceful landscape, the south of France beautiful light and the very convenient facilities of the house. On my side, I loved to rest in silence, to walk in the nature (all around) and to spend time with the kids.
I mainly advice the house for its peaceful landscape and atmosphere.

The Old French Cottage
What a beautiful setting and lovely house. Everything is as described and better! The Ardeche is stunning particularly the gorge and Pont du Diable and the house in such a peaceful area. My young kids loved Firestone, the neighbour's dog, and the pool. The information you sent us was spot on. I will happily recommend this property to friends. Thank you for a superb fortnight. Heaven on earth!
This is a wonderful holiday house in a beautiful area. It was all it promised to be and more, tastefully restored, very well equipped and extremely clean upon arrival. Everything worked and was in great condition! The views from the Mas are gorgeous, and dining on the terrace in the evening watching the sunsets was something we'll remember for a long time. Not to forget the pool, loved by all of us, a must for the hot Ardeche days. Can't think of a bad word to say about this place, apart from the fact we had to leave! It is in the middle of nowhere though ( a good 10 - 15 min drive to a village with a restaurant), so if you want to eat out in the evening, you have to drive home. We found it better to have lunch out and enjoy the wine in the evening over dinner watching the sun set. Great recommendations from the owner with respect to activities locally, very friendly and all the info was accurate. Wouldn't hesitate to go back, both to the Ardeche and especially this house.
