About this cottage rental
This Suite is perfect for anyone travelling light and who does not need an abundance of space.
We are just a little larger than a hotel room, but we also offer a galley kitchen and a full bathroom with a combined bathtub and shower. We are just a few steps from the sandy beaches.
This cozy suite consists of one large room, one full bathroom and one kitchenette area. We have a 40 inch Smart TV for streaming your favorite shows along with high speed WIFI.
The kitchenette consists of a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster. It is a 1 minute walk to the beach and you don't have to cross any roads.
Park right outside your own private entrance and enjoy our Queen size Pillow Top Mattress.
Even with a bit of modernizing the property is a historical home that is now over 85 years old. It has some eccentricities that reflect building standards and designs from the turn of the last century that lends to its charm as an older beach cottage. But even so, we hope that you will love our older and charming home.
We are beach side, just steps from the boardwalk that takes you right to the sandy beaches. We also offer a charcoal grill for grilling outside.
We are also Pet Friendly with a small pet fee.
This is a Family/Residential unit and area. No loud music or noise.

We stayed one night verses the two we paid for due to overwhelming pet odor (wet dog). I message the owner that we checked out prior to 10 am the next day. We only stayed that one night because we got there around 1 am due to work. Also the accommodations were not worth the money paid. I did get travel insurance. May I get a refund on my second night in which we did not stay and how to I go about requesting that?

We had a great stay at this property for 3 nights. It is a perfect fit for two adults and a dog and was right around the corner from the ocean. The bed and bathtub were absolutely wonderful! I appreciated the communication from owners and had an easy, peaceful weekend. Thanks!

Overall, very enjoyable. Not a lot of hustle & bustle, which made it quite & relaxing (exactly what my friend & I were looking for). However, we were only provided with 2 towels & 2 washcloths for a 2 night stay for 2 people, which smelled slightly soured. Also, there was something funky growing in the liquid hand soap, but that wasn't a huge problem as we just used the bar soap that was provided.

The picture implied access to a beach. I did not realize it was pet friendly. Upon my arrival, I could smell it is a pet friendly place. I found a local hotel, and did not spend anytime in unit.
I opted to not to stay for the duration of my trip.

Great spot for relaxing

Pros: Near beach, grocery, cheap gas, several restaurants, interstate, beautiful beachfront homes; parking on lawn; find with Map app. Cons: Can't see #s in the dark; worn mattress on one side; messy yard & neighbors'; chipped tub; fronts busy road (noise if AC is off). Could use a more secure door & adjust exterior lighting to come on further from door.

We enjoyed the access to the beach , local amenities were convenient and directions were a snap clean clean clean

Place was clean, walk to beach was fantastic. Overall a really nice weekend. Thank you!

Relaxing time
Easy walk to the beach, shorter than from the parking lots at the community beaches. And nearly had the beach to myself other than some pleasant walkers. The unit is rough but clean and had the essentials. Very responsive when I was short towels. Short drive to the fishing pier, shopping and eateries. Get a Dave’s Dawg with chili!

Good spot for you and your spouse
Owners had great communication. Had little trouble finding it since outside color is different than picture. The beach is not out the back door like I thought- was a little walk. Room is small but Like picture. Definitely only for a couple.

Owners were very communicative.
The property in real life matches the description. While small, the space is utilized well and is very comfortable for 1-2 people (and a dog) for a quick getaway in a quieter beach area that is still convenient to all the Tidewater area has to offer. It is literally steps to the beach.

This accomadation is okay, it served its purpose, but it is not in any way luxury or fancy. The host was responsive to an issue we had and the place is near the beach, but you don't have a view from your room or anything. If you just need a place to shower and sleep, this will be fine. If you want something a little bit special or extra, you probably want to keep looking.

If you’re wondering why it’s so cheap, just remember you get what you pay for.

The unit is worn down and outdated. Pictures do not show extent in of wear. Not bigger than a hotel room but smaller. “Kitchenette” is little more than a closest. Mini fridge can’t open all the way due to utility sink and freezer is unusable due to frost build up. Bathroom doesn’t look to have been updated since the 1950’s. More than a few steps to beach but not a very long walk. Check in was very easy and owner’s communication was prompt and courteous. The queen bed was comfortable.

The suite was small, but sufficient for the 2 of us. Only possible suggestion would be since there are no washer/dryer, a couple more towels and handcloths would be greatly appreciated

I couldn't have asked for a more perfect room. It had space in front for my dog to hangout and we were yards away from a dog friendly beach. It was wonderful!

George and Kathleen were very communicative about check in procedures and making sure I had what I needed. Space was clean and comfortable and worked very well for me. Was a bit too windy to enjoy the beach, hopefully next time!

Took our deposit, hopefully for upgrades. Avoid this place
So i screwed up and book for the wrong week. George was nice enough to work with me and rebooked for the correct dates. (Which was that very next day) .So i thanked him for that.
However, i must say the listing is very creative with the photos. The place was clean and presentable however the door knob does not lock. You must use the deadbolt. This neighborhood is not the best so i was a little apprehensive.
One of the previous guests stated they have rats. I never saw rats or evidence of them(that is obvious if there is a true problem) but upon further inspection they do have mice. A 5 inch round hole in the floor of the "kitchenette" is where they are coming in at. That hole goes directly under the house to the crawl space. The access to the crawl space is directly to the right of the door (that does not lock correctly) under a big plywood box. Insecure to say the least.
The kitchenette is very sparsely furnished and terribly put together. Awkward to move in and hard to use the dorm refridgerator because of the GIGANTIC UTILITY TUB SINK that takes up half the wall and blocks the door to the fridge
The bathroom. It has a section of flooring directly in front of the sink where there are 2 rusty screws sticking out of the floor that a person could unjure themselves on and cotract any number of infections and diseases. It was covered up by a bathroom throw rug..
The living/bedspace is pretty in the pic but does not show the arangment of the tv. If you wish to lay in bed during a rainstorm and watch tv you must totally rearrange the bed so you and your significant may enjoy the tv. The window behind the tv faces west but there is a large street light across the street that shines all night. And the drapes are not adequate enough to block out the sun when you wake with a hangover from the night before.
The bed itself should be thrown out. You see, in the directions for leaving the rental George asks for the bed to be stripped and all bedclothes left on the bed. When we did we found there are spots on the bed that look like mold. At least i hope it mold and not drops of blood or other bodily secretion from some other previous tenant.
And lastly, we did not bring a pet. George saw fit to keep our deposit for carpet cleaning because he said we left a spot on the carpet that was dirty and blamed it on my phantom pet.
I would have left a very positive review if it had not been for that
We wont return. There are nicer less expensive places.

Rats
In the pictures of the listing it showed a bid that had two different blanket covers on it making you think there was two beds in one bedroom there was a rusty nail coming through the floor in the bathroom that was covered up with the bathroom rug in a sinking hole bathtub was leaning and a rat about 4 inches round I woke up to it eating my food that I brought for my vacation I left early because of it with my child got no refund back except for my deposit And they’ve change the pictures and it was taking down for a while from HomeAway would not stay again I would’ve considered it if I would’ve got a partial refund for the days that I was not there

Wording and Pics of Property
Ok - what I am about to say is a confession of my own shortcomings.
In evaluating whether this property is what I wanted, I apparently skipped a few key items. There are many pictures of the unit, however several of the bed pics are the same bed with two different bedspreads. This along with the description that this unit sleeps three and that it was a one bedroom led me own the path that I was looking at a place with two beds. However, this place is in my mind a studio, with one bed. The third person according to the owner can sleep on the floor. We ended up staying in the place next door (unit 3), which is a true one bedroom (separate room with two beds). While I own the fact that I should have read closer, it is easy to see why I came to the conclusions I did, and I only bring them up so that no one else makes the same error.
The owner did work with me on getting into their unit next door, for which I am grateful, however if that unit had not been available, our time there would have been awful.
The location of this unit is on a "spit", which the description does state. Read up on what this means, because if you are looking for waves, there are none. It is quiet and private, but no waves.
There are not a ton of places to eat in this area, and if you are looking to drive into Virginia Beach boardwalk area, you are talking a 30 minute drive.
Again, I state these things as items I wish I had been more diligent in researching, and I hope that I can keep someone else from making the same mistakes I did.
This is no reflection on the owners at all. They did their best to accomodate.

Great Stay
Perfect place for peaceful vacation. It was clean, well maintained, cozy and brought a homely feeling. George is very prompt in communication, responds quickly to any messages/calls. The app showed wrong checkin code but got updated later on after George gave us the right one during check in time. The beach is less than 2 minutes walk(no crossing streets) and is not crowded so you can have your private time. We loved our stay here. The wifi is GREAT! The biggest advantage is the property is pet friendly(no smells) and there is a lot just infront of the house where you could let your dog out, but there were small thorn seeds which got stuck to our puppies fur. We had to clean them every time we took her out, so be careful. But great area to walk yourself and your dogs. Area looked family oriented. Lot to discover in the neighborhood. We tried to extend our stay by 1 night as we loved the place but it was booked. But will definitely stay at George's property the next time we visit this place. We have provided some minor improvement suggestions and I am sure George will take care of it as they have responded to everything so well.

beach visit
This place was very quiet and I liked that it was within walking distance of the beach. The owner was very helpful with checking in.

No frills at all and good for pet lovers
Pros...Response from owners very timely. Cons...Pet friendly meant must be okay with dog hair on bed and bedding. Owner did offer to send someone immediately to change but was too late since I had explained the pet allergy issue prior to arrival. Small motel like property with outside access very close to main road. Door does lock but didn’t feel like safest neighborhood either. Other than evidence of pets and definitely not anything fancy, if you just want a place to sleep, for the price you can take your chances. Ended up losing 2 nights $$ as I chose to drive another 45 min to stay a clean, pet free hotel. Should reiterate that I chose to rent a pet friendly place but didn’t expect bedding to be embedded with dog hair from a previous stay.
