About this house rental
Great Lilly Cottage is an historic 2 bedroom barn conversion sleeping 4, recently renovated to a high standard and nestled in a peaceful and picturesque corner of North Devon. Located on the outskirts of the village of Goodleigh, this property is a perfect rural retreat; only a 15 minute drive to the white sandy beaches of Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Croyde, yet on the edge of Exmoor National Park. A perfect base to explore the whole of North Devon; whether you're into surfing or just scenery-spotting, coastal-hiking or horse-riding. Enjoy this peaceful rural setting that's only 5 minutes drive from the historic market town of Barnstaple, which has a wide range of amenities and tourist attractions. Great Lilly Cottage forms part of Great Lilly Farm where the owners, Kate & Ali live with their family and assorted menagerie including Pygmy Goats, Pigs and Chickens. The cottage is a 3 storey renovated barn with its own private parking and extensive & enclosed gardens - and being animal lovers, we happily accept well-behaved pets. Please note, although on 3 levels, the cottage is open plan with both bedrooms opening onto the central staircase.

This cottage had everything we needed and was the prefect base to explore North Devon. Very peaceful location with the owner close by if we had any questions or problems. We had an amazing time and would return again in the future.

We had a great stay property was ideally located just outside Barnstaple with great views over the countryside property was immaculate and well stocked and lovely gifts of cider and fudge and even some sweets for Halloween we are already thinking of when we can go back

Overall, a great property with lovely large private garden (shame grass had not been mowed). Fabulous toiletries, kitchen had everything you need and more, however kitchen tap leaked and the ensuite toilet tap was loose, pedal bin did not work. Excellent living area apart from rug which had seen better days. I have rated the property 4 star but if the little nagging points were addressed then we would have given it 5 star!

Great accommodation. Suited a family of 4 very well. Although there was a heatwave at the time it was cool and we were able to get some respite from the heat. Nice choice of outside areas either in the sun or out of it.
Hosts were great. Nice Cider, fudge etc on arrival and we had a hello on arrival. Any questions were answered and nice to have them close, but not that you would notice.
The location is fantastic and close to everything you want eg beaches, walks, supermarkets etc.
Would recommend to anyone as would suit couples of any age or families.

Great Lilly cottage
Very nice and everything you need. Comfortable beds. Downstairs bedroom rather cold and couldn't work the c/heating. Cottage is for four, but only three seats in the living room. Kindling needed for log fire, which was lovely in the chilly evenings. Yes, it was June!

We had such a wonderful few days here that we didn't want to leave. The house is lovely, really nicely decorated and I loved all the eco products that the owners have used. Our dog Phoebe had ample space to run around in the garden and it seemed very secure. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. Can't fault it, can't wait to come back!!

A lovely break
We gave two goods rather than excellents. Their could have been a clean sweep but the Wi-Fi was unsecured and didn't always work (not that it was a bother to my wife or I) but one of our daughters had come down and had to return the next day as she conducts her own business via the net and her laptop simply wouldn't log on. But for us and our dog it was marvellous. Extremely quiet and peaceful yet actually close to a good road down to Barnstable. From the traffic lights the whole of Devon was signposted and as far as our dog was concerned, the massive beach at Saunton Sands was just 15 minutes away! The hammock in the back garden is also exquisitely comfortable! We had a very relaxing stay.

Brilliant location, all beaches within 30 mins drive. Barnstaple town roughly 5/10 mins drive.
Property is very well thought out, the cottage has everything you would require, we even received scones & cream on our arrival! Kate & Ali looked after us brilliantly, a very angelic place. We wouldn't hesitate to go back 😁

Fantastic break away1
Spent Monday to Friday at Kate and Ali’s lovely property in North Devon recently. The house was ideally based for everything you could need to do and visit in the area but far enough out of the main town for peace and quiet. My wife and I came back thoroughly refreshed and chilled thanks for having us

Lovely Couple of Days
Great Lilly Cottage is a lovely character cottage with lots of really nice finishing touches. The log burner adds to the character and kept us lovely can warm on a short break in Devon.
It is ideally situated from Barnstable and an easy drive to Saunton Sands and Woolacombe.
We would happily stay here again with our 3 dogs, the garden is not 100% secure but we don't have escape artist so was not a worry for us. Only suggestion I have for the owners would be for the kitchen to have sundry items such as a sponge to wash up, tin foil, cling film etc and we couldn't find a can opener.
Thank you for a lovely few days we loved it!

Erholsamer Aufenthalt

Lovely Property
We just spent a relaxing week in Great Lily Cottage, its furnished to a high standard and is very comfortable. Ali & Kate were great hosts, making it clear they were available should we need them, but left us to enjoy our holiday.
It's in a great location to visit many of North Devon's attractions within 30 minutes.
Next time we'd like the sunshine though!!

First School Summer Away
Having been away to Devon before with my young son, this was his first summer away in the school holidays so i wanted to do something different now that he was at an age where he was more inclined to appreciate his experiences and also provide a restful break for the grand parents in tow
I wanted a slightly remote and quiet location yet conveniently placed property to access the outside world in order to enjoy some rest-bite from a full day of activity on the nearby beaches and sightseeing but not be too far away for the next days adventures.
Great Lilly Cottage caught my eye instantly. 3 separate floors of countryside rustic ambiance but with each level offering a individually groomed mix of warmth, local feel, and quirky personality all centred around the middle section where the kitchen and lounge were housed - a great family gathering point.
Outdoors, the quiet hustle and bustle of wild life just enhanced the secluded atmosphere of being on holiday on our own coupled with the table and chairs to sit, read and enjoy a summers evening drink and a hammock whereby you could lie back and swing to the tempo of the cooling breeze on what was a very hot 10 days.
The cottage gave a well balanced mix of relaxation for the elders and scope for exploration for a boy of 5 to keep nipping in and out of the garden and all 3 floors of the property without losing any of his energy and enthusiasm.
Kate and Ali were on hand to meet us when we arrived to show us around and were also available when we needed them but ultimately left us to enjoy our holiday and this beautiful cottage.
Myself, my son and my parents had a fantastic time at Great Lilly Cottage and in Devon.

Lovely, comfortable cottage located close to both Barnstaple, beautiful countryside and coastline.
We loved our stay at the cottage. Kate & Ali we’re very friendly & accommodating hosts. The cottage was very comfortable and met all our expectations. Molly & Pip, our two black labs, also enjoyed the house & garden. It was a good base for enjoying the local countryside and beautiful beaches (especially Saunton Sands). We found a lovely local pub, The New Inn, which did fantastic food and were dog friendly.

We had such a lovely few days here and could easily stayed longer. The cottage was gorgeous and had everything we needed. we where very late to arrive but welcomed by the owners who showed us around. I think we where lucky with the weather as the sun was shinning, there are some lovely beaches within 15-20 minutes away which we loved..... we will be back

Beautiful cottage very well presented and a lovely log burning stove to keep you warm.
Couldn't fault the cottage in any way. The owners Kate and Ali were very helpful and Ali met us on arrival showed us round and then left us to it. There were two spacious rooms, one double and one twin, and an open plan kitchen/dining room which had a wood burning stove as a focal point. The spaces work very well and give the impression of a much bigger space. We went as two couples, each with a child aged 10 months and 3yrs. Even with two little terrors running/crawling we found it more than suitable. Ali also setup baby gates on all stairs and provided high chairs and cot which saved us having to bring them. We were also greeted with scones and a bottle of prosecco on arrival which was very thoughtful after a long journey. We didn't do too much exploring but there are some great pubs local, The Chichester Arms in particular is highly recommended. There's plenty to do in the surrounding areas and we look forward to returning again in the warmer months.

We have just returned from spending a great week at Kate & Ali's place. On arrival Kate met us and provided us with a welcome cream tea made by Ali. The cottage has great facilities and the beds are really comfortable. On the drive in we passed their 9 Alpacas which are lovely creatures. We enjoyed sitting on either of the 2 balconies taking in the sun with a nice glass of wine. Although in the country it is close to Barnstaple with its various amenities. All in all a great week thanks to Kate & Ali.

Ali and Kate were very welcoming and unobtrusive but on hand if needed. Cream tea was an unexpected surprise and very tasty.
The accommodation was clean and well equipped for a long weekend away in the countryside, and an ideal location to explore North Devon.
Lovely would definitely stay again

Morning Kate. Thank you for a wonderful stay in your lovely cottage. We have been extremely comfortable and relaxed. The views are to die for, in which we can't believe how close you are to Barnstaple. Certainly, we will be coming back to stay. Thank you Nick & Annette

My initial thoughts were that the cottage was smaller than the pictures, but no less pretty but actually it was perfect for us, including two children and two small dogs. The husband and children were very impressed with the WiFi and blue-tooth setup which helped in wind-down evenings (as well as the dominoes) and the couple of wetter days. Breakfast was lovely on the graveled area outside with an amazing view. Steep garden to the rear which the dogs explored and had a washing line. Great location to reach everything beaches, shops, etc. Nice soft towels and blankets. Very minor details to be improved including a couple more wooden spoons but could definitely benefit from some new pegs for the washing line for the wet towels and wetsuits etc! Being picky as had a great relaxing week but as I'm the cook and cleaner!!!!

After a very, very long drive in our Landy all the way from Munich to Barnstaple we arrived at this wonderful, lovely and cosy Cottage! Very friendly and helpful hosts! Everything we needed was provided. The Cottage was very clean and looked after. Lovely furnished with nice details. We will be back! Just a shame it's so far away from our place, otherwise we would stay more often! Thank you so much for a great holiday! We enjoyed every minute and felt at home away from home!
