Wonderful, romantic accomodation in an historic, fully restored medieval castle.
Wonderful accomodation in a wonderful setting. Great breakfast with lovely view of the castle and moat.

If you want to stay in a restored, updated 16th c. German manor house, this is the place.
The property is of historical interest and has been lovingly restored. The grounds are spectacular and there are lots of trails to explore the surrounding countryside.
Maybe it was Covid, but the dinner menu was limited and very ho hum, typical German food with no frills and no imagination. The dinner waitstaff were young and inexperienced, but we would have cheerfully overlooked that had the food been better. Breakfast buffet was altogether another story. The offerings were extensive, delicious, and the staff were very friendly.

Fairytale vacation
Picturesque location. Comfortable room inside the castle with an amazing view on the lake. High quality dishes based on local products served at the restaurant at fair prices. Having dinner with the outstanding view on the castle is a unique experience. Highly recommended!

Great location, service lacking
The location is amazing! Very well-maintained and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The rooms are spacious and the breakfast has a large variety. We would absolutely recommend it for a long weekend getaway as there is plenty to do in the area. However you can tell the management fired the staff during corona and now the staff is entirely new. Therefore the only thing lacking is the service.
The first thing was the receptionist. She was very unfriendly during our entire stay. She first told us if we want to rent bikes we need to call a company directly, even though we don’t have cell service. Other guests kindly asked for them to arrange it instead, which we see as entirely fair. Next it is written in the guide anyone can use the sun room at the top of the castle to relax. She told us we couldn’t because we didn’t stay there. The manager then corrected her and said we can simply ask for a key when we want to go (she then tried to add it is for an extra charge). We then asked her for the key and she said no we can’t do that try to find another place to relax. We in the end had the correct key all along, the management was just unaware as they were new. If we would have known how unhelpful she was we would have rented a room in the castle, not the adjacent house. The restaurant was also so severely understaffed we waited 50 minutes and never received a menu so we left. Given this is during corona times so it probably influences it. However after the first few times of waiting for an hour to be served we decided to eat elsewhere, even if it meant driving somewhere. All in all the property would have got a 8-9/10 (some small details to improve). However with the extremely service we would give it a 6/10. Hopefully this review is constructive and helps them to improve or learn to not fire their entire staff next time. The family absolutely has enough money to keep the staff and it’s a pity to see the workers now overworked as a result. We would not necessarily fault the service personnel, rather the management.
