Very comfortable stay in an Olde World Heritage hotel, in central Kolkata

The Astor is a lovely heritage hotel in a quieter part of Kolkata, than say, New Market, but is still only a 10-minute walk to central Park Street. There are some goods shops and restaurants around. The buffet breakfast and eggs cooked to order were very good, as was the food in the dining room. The ambience of the dining room is beautiful olde world charm. The Staff were polite and helpful, and enabled us to have an early check-in, so we had a drink in the dining room, whilst the room was being made up.

There is a nightclub at The Astor, which plays extremely loud Duff Duff, music until 3am on a Sunday night. Impossible to get to sleep. When you book, please check when the night club is open, and avoid those nights, I think they are open on another night, but don't quote me on that.

It has a good ambiance and is centrally located. The restaurant is good.

There was a lot of noise from the discotheque at night. There is no elevator.

The breakfast was good.

There was a party till 2am -3am and the music was super loud, and we could not sleep until 3-4am in the morning.

location is good if you are desperate to stay central

They gave us a temporary room and asked us to shift next day since clearly they had over booked during marriage season. Staff at reception is junior and relatively untrained and didn’t have any explanation why even after booking.com had confirmed my request they gave me a temp room. No one has heard of customer service at the reception. Room was small with no window

Beautiful heritage property at the heart of Kolkata

Excellent service and very polite staff. We were given an upgrade to the Suite room on arrival. Laxman, the bell boy was very helpful throughout our trip. The property hosts a restaurant and a bar, all very well maintained. The in room dining options were really good. Stayed for 3 nights and dined in twice!

No open windows. Please ask for a non smoking room as it can get stuffy from past guests smoke.

The absence of an elevator, which is essential for seniors.

The staff was cooperative and proactive in making requested modifications to the booking.

1. For the price paid, the room was not up to the mark. It was like a box, made me feel very claustrophobic. Apparently, there are no rooms on the property with windows which have a double bed. I was told all rooms with windows have twin beds. 2. Bookings do not come with adequate information. Example, the room + dinner package offer on booking.com is only for room service ordering. Guests are not allowed to visit the restaurants on the property. This was not stated anywhere at the time of the booking, neither did the hotel management share this detail until check-in.

this is the last hotel I traveled to with my husband and it was just prior to the end of my marriage. but I recall liking the hotel. the service is good. food was splendid.

the memory attached to how foolish I had been and how easily he pulled wool over my eyes haunts me so not the fault of the hotel. it is the fault in my stars

A great stay

A fantastic stay at the Astor. It is a beautifully maintained hotel near to the Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. The facilities were excellent and the staff very helpful. They were able to answer any question. We had a really good meal in the restaurant and good breakfast.

The price was a little high for 1 night, but you get a great hotel in return.

The noise from the hotel's nightclub made our stay really unpleasant.

The surrounding area is nice – the hotel is located quite centrally.

There is a nightclub in the hotel and the noise can be heard in the rooms till about 2am. It is extremely loud and our rooms were shaking with the noise. The hotel staff was very unhelpful about the noise – they kept saying the music will stop in a few minutes but it went on for literally hours. There is also a smell of cigarettes in the corridors and in some of the rooms.

the location was great

terrible noise levels till very late in the night. bad odor in the bathrooms. extremely noisy guests in other rooms which the hotel staff did nothing about when I raised a complaint
