About this house rental
Jocassee Hideaway is a lakefront cabin where you can enjoy one of the most pristine lakes in the country with a 95% protected shoreline of national parks and conservation protected land. Lake Jocassee is set in the Jocassee Gorges region on the border of South and North Carolina. It is a 7500 acre 350 ft deep lake within a unique wilderness area with miles of hiking trails, wildlife such as bear, turkey, bobcat, deer, eagles, the list goes on. Jocassee has some of the best fishing in the Southeast and is a lake that watersports lovers dream of where there are so few boats that open water skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are awesome. Explore waterfalls with boulders the size of houses, vertical cliffs, hidden coves, sandy beaches, and water that stays cool even during the peak of summer.
This 4BR/3B log cabin sits on one of the few lots with access to the lake with no stairs, just a gentle grade from the house to the dock (200 feet). The 2500 sqft home has 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths with a main level and a loft level living room for plenty of room to spread out and relax.
We provide all bed linens, bath towels/hand towels/wash cloths, and trash service (up to six bags which is all the cleaning staff can handle). We provide dish detergents, laundry detergents, cleaning sponges, and basic soaps in all baths.
We now provide high speed Starlink internet with speeds ranging between 50 and 150 mbps with unlimited bandwidth which now allows guests the ability to stay and work remotely. The Starlink system is on track to be upgraded to gigabit speeds as more satellites are deployed over the coming months and years.
The refurbished dock floats in deep water and provides a panoramic view of the lake and mountains. It has a single covered 10'x24' slip for a boat and a swim platform with tie-off cleats for boats or jet skis. The dock also includes a 2 man canoe for your use while our guest.
The house wraparound porch has several Adirondack chairs and a swing, outdoor dining, and gas grill. The kitchen is fully stocked and has updated appliances and granite countertops. The dining room has seating for 10 with a side table seating 4. The living room has a wood burning stove, leather sectional sofa, and 55" TV with Dish Network and DVD. HVAC, plumbing, and electric have all been updated. There is a large stone fire pit with bench seating and a 16'x16' deck between the cabin and the dock with a picnic table that seats 10+ and rocking chairs for relaxing while overlooking the lake.
Lake Jocassee has spectacular water and mountain views with many waterfalls to enjoy, with Whitewater Falls, Thompson Falls, and Wright Falls (a bridal veil falls) nearby. Boat entry is at Devil's Fork State Park which has 3 boat ramps, a beach, and water toy rentals. Several boat and watercraft rental companies are available that service the lake and include lake tours and scuba diving.

This is a truly wonderful property on Jocassee. The cabin is rustic but has some of the best views of the lake available. It also has one of the best walks (few stairs and shallow grade) to the lake. The dock is both close and perfect for boating, swiming and kayaking.
The host is also terrific.
We had wonderful time in the summer of 2024 and cant wait to come back.

While it is not easy to get to, the views and seclusion more than make up for it!

I'll get the small amount of negative comments out of the at first.....the road into the the property is treacherous, especially because it was raining when we arrived. Very steep, narrow turns and tight roads. I understand that people that live in the area, like the cleaners, are used to the mountain roads, but coming from the lower part of the state, it was eye opening. According to the instruction email I received, they recently expanded the drive to allow more parking near the house. That was very nice. The house was very clean and well maintained. Once we walked into the house and saw the lake from the back porch, we completely forgot about the driveway. The view is amazing. The lot gently slopes to the lake. The dock was perfect for our 3 jet skis. We kept our truck and trailer at the state park and drove the skis across the water. It's 5-10 minutes from the state park. The house is an older log cabin that has been updated nicely. We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen has everything you need if you choose to. The back porch was amazing, we spent a lot of time just sitting looking at the lake.
The next time we stay here, and we will, we will bring our boat and load everything we need on it and boat to the house. If you can do that, then the driveway doesn't matter at all.

The cabin was exactly as advertised, and perfect for our weekend getaway! Wraparound deck was perfect for morning coffee, the house was clean and organized while fully stocked for everything we needed. Fall foliage was beautiful in November! The best weekend spot no matter what time of year, and thanks to Craig for being so responsive and helpful.

Great location with a rare lakefront property on beautiful Jocassee. Neighborhood road and driveway are super narrow with steep drops on the sides - go slowly. Definitely make use of boat trailer storage solutions given by the owner - I would not want to tow anything down that driveway. Walk to dock was not bad, but lots of loose rocks and big acorns - don’t recommend for elderly folks. House was as listed and communication with owner was timely and helpful. Great central location to visit waterfalls and explore Cashiers or Highlands, etc.

Our group had an awesome time at the cabin, we spent most of our days on the lake and evenings on the porch watching as the sun faded. The views from the cabin/property are better than the pics, and if you have a boat the dock and swim platform are in great shape! The cabin is truly a cabin, but clean and has everything you need for a great stay. Hope to stay here again in a few years when we are looking at Jocassee for a vaca again!

We had a wonderful time at this location and the views are amazing! House was very clean and had everything we needed since we brought our own keurig. The place for our boat was super nice to have and the recommended guy for our trailer storage was very friendly. This would not be a house for you if you have any walking issues, very small children or for older people though because that walk down to the water is a tough one that’s for sure and especially after it rained it was really slick. All in all a great trip though!!

A great place to be! Beautiful waterfalls close by. Everything was just like the pictures showed in the listing.

We had a great time! The log cabin gave us the feel of staying in a hidden, upscale tree fort.
Elderly folks may not be able to make it down the hill to the dock, but we had no trouble.
We took our boat and had a blast discovering little waterfalls. Leaving the trailer and truck at the state park was easier than we expected, since we sent some of our things with our kids.

This cabin on jocassee has great lake access and great internet. Good internet in this part of the country is hard to find. Cabin comfortably sleeps three couples and up to 4 kids. I love this place.

We were so happy with the property and access to a deep water dock at one of the most beautiful lakes in the southeast.

Great views on the water. Rustic cabin and very remote. Recommend better mattress and easy arm chair for more senior folks in the interior living space. Access to the dock was difficult for us older folks. The overlook deck was helpful to manage that access. Recommend you get your groceries before you come. Overall a great getaway stay!

great week at the lake
Had a great week with family and friends at jocassee hideaway. rented a boat for the week that was delivered and provided much fun on our favorite lake. The house had all the things you need and felt spacious for our group of 7 + dogs. Loved the front porch and the view through the trees was just magical. The moon during our week was amazing and the property was positioned just perfectly for watching the moonrise. Craig is very easy to get and responsive. Feel lucky we have found this space hopefully for future time at Lake Jocassee.

Wonderful Trip
Good, clean rustic cabin exactly as described. Plenty of room, great views. Will stay again. The only caution I would say is to those with children. There is on opening where the dock transitions from wood to metal. It's about a 10 foot drop to the water/rocks below. The opening is large enough that a child can fall through. My 10 year old did on our last day, luckily her aunt was right beside her to catch her before she went all the way through. You can easily step over the opening but you know how kids can get excited and not pay attention so I just wanted to make others aware. Other than that the stay was great.

Great family experience
With seven kids and four adults, it is a special place that can keep everyone happy. This was that place. You can canoe, swim, visit waterfalls or stay at the house and play card games and do some serious porch sitting. Everyone had fun, phone use and as minimal, and the house was perfect for our crowd. It is away from town, deep in the woods, down a steep driveway. Everyone must have good mobility to hav the BEST lake life.

Great Property on the Best Lake in the South East
This property is one of, if not the, best rental properties on Lake Jocassee. Fantastic view of the lake and the dam, great access to the water (no need for stairs) and a terrific covered dock with swimming platform. Hosts recent upgrades including startlink high speed internet access make this property really stand out!

Beautiful view, relaxed deck, great dock, everything you need
We loved our week here - it was actually better than we expected. Driveway is steep and there’s a little walk up and down to the dock, but it’s flatter than most of the neighbors, so a really great choice for Jocassee - this is our favorite lake!

Wonderful, quiet lake getaway
I've been looking at this lake for a couple of years and we decided to book a vacation here. The view is absolutely stunning. I highly recommend renting a boat while you are here to explore the big lake. We visited many waterfalls and the water was so clear and fun to swim in. Get groceries before coming and just stay for days; you won't want to go anywhere! We loved having many options for enjoying the view and quiet lake-porch, patio, boat deck, and I hung a portable hammock and relaxed there too. The weather was perfect in the mid to upper 70's and even a little cool in the mornings. The house is rustic, but it was very clean and had some nice touches like new pans and nice adirondack chairs, as well as a very comfortable couch and high speed internet. We were able to adjust the thermostat no problem. We cannot wait to come back!

A million dollar view
Just settling down on the back porch will help you feel calm and content. It is the most beautiful view and Jocassee is a quiet lake. We enjoyed our time here. We kayaked to many of the waterfalls and took a fishing trip- we caught trout and enjoyed it for lunch! A very memorable vacation.

Beautiful lake view!
Cabin was very clean! The view from the living/dining area of the lake was beautiful! The same view of the lake from the downstairs main bedroom was the best way to wake up. The walk to the dock was not steep and the dock was great! New deck on the side of the cabin was very nice with dining table available for warm weather.

Wonderful time
This lake felt so free from everything. We had such an awesome time paddling around in the canoe. Kids loved the whole place. It’s like most places in North Carolina steep but manageable driveway and road. Come here for a great recharge. Bring a fishing pole, some food and turn your phone off. Enjoy the disconnect.
Craig was great in responding to all our questions. We will be back.

Beautiful
the owner is responsive and helpful without being intrusive. Was very understanding when a boat mechanical failure delayed our checkout. It is a cozy cabin, well equipped and the location on the lake is stunning.

This rustic cabin is clean and and the view is spectacular!!! Our favorite spot to hang out was the porch swing watching the sunrise over the mountain. As seasoned travelers, we’ve rented lots of places via VRBO and would have expected better quality towels, a down alternative comforter or something of the sort along with complimentary coffee and filters at least. The photos do not show an extremely outdated master bath with a very slippery cave-like fiberglass shower/tub with shower curtain. This is a safety concern along with the rickety railing at the lower section of stairs off the back porch. We recommend you bring your own life jackets/preservers as every single one in dock’s storage is seriously torn and falling apart—they would never pass inspection anywhere. The largest we found was an Adult Large. We really enjoyed canoeing to a couple waterfalls across the lake and swimming in the pristine water where we could see lots of fish. A 10-minute drive to huge, stunning Whitewater Falls is a definite MUST if you stay here. Yes, it could be better appointed, but if you enjoy a remote location, quietude, evening outdoor fires, fishing, swimming, canoeing, grilling out, and porch swingin’ with a beverage and an insanely gorgeous view, you will like this place!

"Fun house"
Beautiful view but that's about all you get for the price. The drive way like all other reviews is NO JOKE. If you like roller coasters then you will love the road there. For the price I expected a much nicer house. Pictures do not always tell you the whole story. The floor system is very much out of level, hence why I named it "fun house". Mattresses were very uncomfortable all of us our backs hurt every morning. Dock needs repair work. Huge opening on the way to dock & rail missing in section. Dock & stairs to house slippery. Over all I have to say the house needs major remodeling.
