Somnia is ideal for visitors who want easy access to the best beaches on the south coast, such as the famous Accra Beach (Rockley) and Hastings Boardwalk, as well as a fantastic range of bars, fast food outlets and fine dining restaurants to please all palates. Local amenities such as supermarkets, ATMs, pharmacies, and public transport - are within minutes' walk. Many popular visitor attractions are close by, such as the George Washington House and the Barbados Museum, and the Garrison Savannah, where visitors can mingle with locals and enjoy free horse racing during the season. The capital city, Bridgetown, offers fabulous duty-free shopping, including the famous Cave Shepherd department store.
Somnia offers guests a comfortably furnished home-from-home. The spacious air-conditioned master bedroom has a double bed and offers views over the Caribbean sea. It has built-in wardrobes and masses of storage space. It opens onto a large, modern, tiled en-suite wet-room with a hot and cold shower and double vanity units. The second bedroom is also air-conditioned and offers a double bed, ample storage space and its own adjoining bathroom.
After a day out at the beach or exploring Barbados’s many attractions, you can relax in the spacious open-plan lounge; watch cable television, play board or card games, have a few rounds of dominoes, read a book from our small library or enjoy an eclectic selection of music. High-speed internet is available throughout the property.
Somnia is ideal for guests who prefer self-catering options. We offer a fully equipped kitchen with a good-sized fridge-freezer, microwave, six burner hob and oven with a grill, juicer, rice cooker, food processor, coffee grinder, coffee machine and just about every piece of kitchen equipment you will need. Perfect for guests wanting to try their hand at some Bajan dishes such as macaroni pie and flying fish.
For those who prefer not to use their precious holiday time in the kitchen, there is a range of nearby restaurants and bars offering breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks, as well as a number of fast-food outlets offering free home delivery.
A special feature of Somnia is its large open veranda, furnished with easy lounging chairs and a dining table shaded from the sun. In the afternoon, enjoy a chilled beer or wine, rum punch or whatever cocktail takes your fancy, (help yourselves to fresh coconuts and limes from the trees in the garden), while watching the antics of our resident family of green monkeys, or marvelling at the iridescent hummingbirds as they hover over the flowering plants. In the evenings, relax out here and enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Caribbean. Whatever time of day, the veranda is the perfect place to relax.
Somnia is situated on a hill overlooking the Caribbean and is often blessed with a fresh breeze. But if you feel the heat you will enjoy the solar-powered air conditioning in the bedrooms, and all rooms have ceiling fans, as well as an array of floor and table fans for your comfort.
A high chair and travel cot are provided for infants.

Beautiful home and porch

We stayed here in upper level for 10 days of our vacation and had friends join us. Above and beyond, pictures do not do it Justice for space, cleanliness and comfort. Has beach modern decor, air works great in bedrooms. Only improvement could be adding air to living room, but was not a big deal or concern. Had an outside issue which was not our hosts fault but they were on it to ensure it was quickly resolve and treated us to a wonderful Bajan lunch. They are very attentive!!
Location is perfect, 10 min quick to main road and Blakey’s restaurant on the Boardwalk. 10 min by car to Pebbles Beach. Sue’s Market is a quick 5 min walk and she has everything you can think of!! Wonderful lady!!
Jump on ZR for 3.50 BBD to the Gap.
Will not hesitate to come back!

We loved our stay in Ian and Cecily‘s apartment! The apartment itself is very comfortable and suitable for a couple and friends. It is well appointed and has everything you need for self catering. We particularly loved their second-story terrace, which is huge and surrounded by plants and trees. Ian was extremely flexible and communicative during our process. Trudi, the property manager, and Annette, the cleaner, and Richard, the groundskeeper, were all fabulous. It’s located in a very quiet and safe neighborhood, and we will be sure to come back.

We loved this property. Neighborhood location with distant view of the sea from upper patio. The place was spacious and sunlit! Fans and AC. Walking distance to beach and restaurants!

We had a really lovely stay at Ian's place - it's comfortable and very well-equipped, with a fabulous terrace. Only a 10 minute walk to the beach but a decent supermarket is about 30 mins walk away, so a car is probably advised for some people. Communication with the hosts was great - they were really helpful and responded quickly. Thank you ;)

We stayed at Somnia for the month of February. The house is divided into two spacious apartments. While we stayed in the upper apartment, I did get the chance to see the lower one (which is equally as lovely as upstairs). Our accommodation consisted of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a very well equipped kitchen and a large dining/sitting room area that opened up onto a huge deck that was surrounded on three sides by trees and shrubs of all kinds. Because of the house’s fairly high location, the deck captured the soft breezes, a godsend particularly in the heat of the day, and attracted all manner of birds. The decor of the apartment was stunning with much attention to detail. I particularly enjoyed the artwork.
The house is an 8-minute walk from the beach and a very fine boardwalk that was built in 2012. It runs from Rockley beach to Hastings beach, some 1.5 kms, and is well used by locals and tourists alike. It was wonderful to walk along the shore and enjoy the ocean without having to dodge traffic. No dogs, bikers, rollerbladers are allowed on the boardwalk - just walkers and joggers. There were plenty of restaurants by the water and a farmers’ market every Wednesday and Saturday.
The owners, Ian and Cecily, were readily available by email as were the caretakers, Trudi and Randy. We had a problem with the a/c one day and within 24 hours, it was fixed. We were impressed. Trudi cooked us a delicious Bajan dinner one day - a real treat.
We didn’t have a car so relied on taxis and the prolific van buses which seemed to come along every two minutes and cost $3.5 Bajan to go anywhere on the island - surely one of the best and most efficient transit systems we’ve encountered in our travels.
All in all, we had a lovely time in Barbados which was made all the lovelier by our stay at Somnia.

The property is well taken care of. We had no issues with noise. The trees and plants surrounded us with beauty, with view of the sea. 10 minute walk to beach and could walk, take bus or ZR easily. Great stay

The location is perfect for looking into hanging out with locals. Its well situated near everything. Only issue we had was the neighbors and their dogs barking sometimes late at night.

My family and I spent a lovely 10 days at Somnia. Very relaxing, perfectly located, and with all the amenities of home. The only suggestion I have is to put a non-slip shower mat in the master bathroom. It was otherwise perfect! I would definitely book again. Communication with Trudi was also amazing.

My husband and I spent 4 weeks in Somnia looking for a relaxing stay. This was not our first trip to Barbados. We plan on purchasing a property this year in Barbados. Our previous stay on the island was great.
Somnia is a clean, comfortable home away with a lovely veranda. The kitchen appliances aside from the fridge and stove are tired though. The first week the handle to the toaster fell off. It was brought to the attention of the Property Manager, Trudi and we said we'd make due with using a knife to push down the handle. Our coffee maker never worked properly taking over an hour to brew. Before the second week is stopped working all together. Trudi was contacted that day and she quickly responded stating she'd have it replaced. By the 3rd week we still had not seen a replacement coffee maker so we purchased our own. Trudi then offered to pay for it but since we plan having our own place we decided to keep it and store it for our next trip to Barbados.
The neighbouring houses are close and as such sound travels. We understand you cannot choose your neighbours but it should be understood if you're looking to rent this property that there are several noisy dogs. We are dog breeders ourselves and understand dogs bark. Most of the time it's because the owner's don't pay attention or correct them. In this case the neighboring dogs were quite disturbing. They would bark for 10 min at a time, 1/2 hour or 3 hours straight. The one night they barked from 9:30 pm - 11:30 pm non-stop. We only heard 1 owner correct their dog on 1 occasion, only for it to continue and the owner ignore it. Since the house in question is VERY close it be heard in the bedroom very easily with the windows closed and the AC on. We complained the first week to the the Property Manager, Trudi but she didn't seem to acknowledge our concern at that point. We didn't want to be "Karen's" so we didn't complain again until it got too much to ignore. By the end of the 2nd week we couldn't enjoy our stay with the windows open close the patio doors and windows at times just to watch tv. At this point we brought it to the attention of both the Property Manager and the Owner. If it hadn't been for the fact that we had paid good money to stay we would have packed up and found other accommodations. Will we return to Barbados? ABSOLUTELY. Would we ever stay at Somnia? Never again. The house is lovely but not the dogs. Not sure how Ian can resolve this issue.

Superb much better than a hotel in the best spot on the island. Convenient for airport and super beaches and restaurant bars, unbeatable. Some neighbouring noise but didn’t spoil the stay and is beyond the propietors control. May improve. Exceptional outside deck and fittings. Recommend this place.

Nice views of the ocean from the balcony and a terrific interior made our stay all we could ask for. Proximity to the sites in Bridgetown and convenient parking accommodations were also plusses.

We really enjoyed our 3 week stay at Somnia. The highlights were the large and breezy deck, the wonderful housekeeper as well as the property manager who clearly put her tenants first. The house is very comfortable for a couple and having the extra full bathroom was great for a short-term additional guest or two. The kitchen is also well equipped for self catering. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed the neighbourhood vibe. The only nuisance was the noise from one adjacent property but that could be ignored most times.

We had a fantastic week stay at the property, appreciating the tasteful decor, well equipped kitchen, and the very spacious and relaxing terrace.
The property is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. We had a car and found the location to be ideal short driving distance to nearby beaches, restaurants and super markets.
Highly recommended!

Hi Ian and Cecily, we had a wonderful time at Somnia, thank you.
Walked along to the Garrison and the Hilton in one direction and three quarters of the way to St Lawrence Gap in the other, just what we wanted to do. Catherine was lovely, neighbours friendly and we really appreciated the style and decor of your property. So all in all a very successful visit.
Thank you for the opportunity of staying in Somnia,
Very best wishes, James and Kim

We had a wonderful 2+ week vacation at beautiful Somnia. The location was perfect - a 10 minute walk from Rockley beach, the farmer's market and many restaurants. The home was very clean, fully equipped for cooking, AC in the bedrooms and modern bathrooms. The decor was beautiful - Bajan style with lots of personal touches. There is a bookshelf with a good variety of books and tourism guides (check out Absolutely Barbados by Julian Armfield). The piece de resistance was the 2nd floor deck with the cool breeze, a chorus of many species of birds and whistling frogs and several green monkey sightings. We ate most meals on the deck while enjoying the beautiful flowers and foliage.
Annette was lovely, she came to clean twice during the week, was very friendly and shared her knowledge of the island. The hosts arranged to have Angela pick us up at the airport which was great as it would be a challenge to find the property.
There was a miscommunication at check-in (we were not provided with the code) however it got sorted out quickly and we had the perfect vacation going forward. Ian and Cecily were very responsive hosts and we thank them for sharing their beautiful home in Barbados. Loved the home, the island and the friendly people. We hope to return again and would definitely stay at Somnia!

I can't say enough about my stay at this property. This was my first experience with home away so to say I was concerned is an understatement. However, I felt instant comfort from my very initial interaction with the property owner Mr. Ian and that seal my decision. Very responsive and attention to detail was exceptional. Mr. Ian and his wife covered all basis they made sure I had transportation arrangements from arrival although my flight got in at 4:30 am. The home was very very comfortable, exceeded my needs, very airy relaxing and I felt safe at ease and stress free. Locations amazing if you want to enjoy nature and relaxed atmosphere yet close enough to fun/excitement close to beach, restaurants that's the place for you. This home was breezy and sunny all the time.
Very spacious and all necessities were available. The rain shower in the master bath was just splendid. I recommend and will definitely return for my next upcoming business trip.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR SPACE AND HOME AS ACCOMMODATION TO PERSONS WHO ARE SEEKING SAFETY AND COMFORT YET FUN.

The house is lovely and feels very Caribbean. We enjoyed spending time outside on the wonderful deck. There is a lovely breeze up on the hill and we delighted in watching the beautiful birds that live in the neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again.
We did have some confusion at check-in (we weren’t provided a key code in advance and the friendly housekeeper who met us didn’t know it either) but after that it was smooth sailing.

Perfect location, nice and quiet area. Close to all the attractions. Home is fantastic and feels like a home. Kitchen has everything you would need, 2 bathrooms help.
Star of the show is the large veranda, we enjoyed lazy breakfasts in the morning and lazy rums in the evenings.
Ian and Cecily are great hosts, flexible and helpful and responded to all questions before we arrived promptly.
During our stay Annette the house maid came twice, fresh towels and bedding.
It is as nice as the pictures, book with confidence and enjoy Barbados.

We had a fantastic time in the apartment, all the amenities were for us perfect. The high point her was the veranda. We spent many mornings and evenings having breakfast or reading. A quiet neighbourhood we can highly recommend this property. Thanks again to the owners who took a lot of care with the whole Organisation.
