About this house rental
The Hardaway Cottage is a 1933 Georgian style home that was built on the grounds of the historic Roosevelt Warm Springs campus as a vacation home by Mrs. Rebecca Hardaway.
This fascinating home retains its Art Deco cool vibe while allowing guests to enjoy the beauty of a private setting surrounded by the Georgia State Park system. The spectacular views can be a place to relax on the front porch, grill out back, or unwind with a good book. Spend time cooking, entertaining, or soaking up the amazing history of the area. Often you will spot deer, coyote, chimney swifts, or more.
The house has a living room with fireplace, dining room, eat-in kitchen, three bathrooms and four bedrooms. The main bedroom with a King size bed is on the main floor. The other three bedrooms are upstairs. There is a sun porch/solarium with the most beautiful windows that adjust for any amount of light or breeze. The beautiful open porch across the front of the home can accommodate up to fifty guests. The master suite and bathroom on the main level of the home is handicapped accessible. The main level of the home is ADA compliant with wheelchair access to the parking area front and side porches and all rooms on the first floor. The home sleeps 8/10 guests.
This home is unique in so many ways. The history begins with Rebecca Hardaway who represents the industrial revolution. Her husband had founded the Hardaway Construction Company. After Benjamin Hardaway died Rebecca sold original Coca Cola stock to realize her dream of investing in a dual purpose home in Warm Springs. She already knew and love the area, and in creating the Hardaway Cottage hoped to accommodate both vacationers and people seeking treatment at the newly founded treatment center. Some key features that Rebecca designed are the beautiful marble fireplace, the 1930s tile bathrooms on the second floor of the home, and the rope-pulled elevator. The elevator is available for viewing as part of a tour of the home, but is not for use by guests.
After the death of Rebecca the home was purchased by the Charles Glenn family. Ms. Glenn had disabling arthritis and Alexander Glenn had polio. Both benefited from the homes innovative design for the use by people with disabilities. Clearly, the family was taking advantage of the treatment available for Alex at the historic polio treatment center. During WWII Dr. Charles Glenn commuted between Warm Springs GA and Oak Ridge TN the secret city where the Atom bomb was developed. The house was home to three daughters in addition to the baby of the family Alex. During WWII the two oldest sisters resided in the home with their "war babies" so the house was full of life and hope during this time.
** The Hardaway has a security camera on the garage that makes activity in the back parking lot visible.

Nice house, lots of room, very well kept, good location

Has been a lovely home but needs some maintenance. This did not bother us as we had a lovely time in this spacious home. The rooms, baths and total layout was great for our family. Visited the Little White House, Callaway Gardens and Hills and Dale home and gardens in Lagrange. Good time by all.

Our family stayed here over Thanksgiving and loved that we had plenty of room for everyone while also getting to stay in a historical house with an interesting history. It was quiet and peaceful and we enjoyed visiting the local sights and town. Being wheelchair accessible was a must for our family and it was amazing to find a house like this that fit the bill. I’d highly recommend for family gatherings.

Thank you for helping us with last minute addition. It meant a lot that our daughter’s dog did not have to be boarded after his accident.

I booked this house for our annual Christmas trip( we go somewhere different every year) This house was perfect for a big family. The front porch, and sunroom was amazing! Also one room was called the cousins room and it slept all 5 together! The kitchen was big enough to sit around the table drinking our coffee and enjoying the company! I would certainly stay again!

Our stay was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Elizabeth was very responsive and the home had it all. This home is very unique and a one of a kind experience. We are already looking forward to our next visit to the Hardaway Cottage!

We had 9 family members ranging in age from 14-79 years old staying at Hardaway Cottage for 7 nights. The house has been beautifully restored and is furnished in lovely antiques and decorations from the early 1900’s. Additionally, the owner has highlighted the house’s history during the polio epidemic and F.D. Roosevelt’s presidency. The house is surrounded by woods but in the city limits of Warm Springs, so very peaceful and convenient! The house is within walking distance of The Little White House, the Warm Springs polio rehabilitation pools, the quaint downtown of Warm Springs and F.D. Roosevelt State Park and within a 15 minute drive to an Ingles grocery. Additionally, there were several beautiful waterfalls and hiking trails near the house in the state park. The house easily accommodated this large number of people and we did not feel crowded at all. The rooms were quite soundproof, there was plenty of hot water for everyone and the beds were comfy. Callaway Gardens and the Hills and Dales Estate were within a 15-30 minute drive and well worth the visit. Additionally, there were several private breweries and wineries (loved the Warm Springs winery, Nutwood winery and Wild Leap Brewery) in the area that we enjoyed as well as the Animal Safari Park drive through zoo. Our favorite place to eat was Chad’s-definitely buy a cake there! The Bulloch House was also a delicious buffet with typical Southern dishes-try the fried green tomatoes and catfish! Highly recommend!!

Amazing Warm Springs Getaway
Beautiful historic home on secluded property, but you could literally walk several hundred yards through the woods to the Little White House. We loved that the owners made modern upgrades yet kept the 1930s feel of the house with vintage furniture and decorations. The house was very clean, well-appointed, and had more than enough room for 4 adults. The owners were also amazing and always responded very quickly to questions and text messages. Beth offered to give us an official tour history of the home, but unfortunately we didn’t have time during our stay. We hope to come back next summer, so would love to do the tour then!

History and isolation
The Hardaway Cottage is a cool property. While there, you are isolated and it is blissfully quiet. The wide focus of the photos was deceptive about the size of the rooms. One member of our party uses a motorized wheelchair and was able to easily navigate the house. The accessible bathroom was technically functional but better suited to someone who can stand to transfer to the commode.
When you're in the woods, there's bound to be critters. We found "evidence" in a few kitchen drawers (gross) and there were a LOT of wasps in the house, so we suspected a nest in the chimney. The caretaker who lives next door was kind and helpful, even did his best to help with the wasps.
It's an old property in need of cosmetic attention but all-in-all a great stay!

Driving up the long drive and seeing this stately house materialize out of the trees is a spectacular first impression. The location is lovely and secluded. Our kids and dog loved exploring and playing in the woods for hours. The house was incredibly roomy and comfortable. Both classically grand and yet homey, we felt very cozy here. The kitchen was well stocked, and the beds were comfy. The kids loved having their own rooms with their own bathrooms, too. They did not want to leave. The history of the place left us constantly in a state of awed reverence -- what stories those very walls and floorboards could tell. A visit to The Little White House just up the road is highly recommended. A wonderful stay, indeed. We would absolutely be happy with a return visit.

Wonderful vacation
This is a wonderful place to stay if you are looking for a place to just relax and enjoy the quiet. There were 9 of us and everyone had plenty of places to read and play games. Great couples retreat
We enjoyed our stay at Hardaway Cottage. The history is very interesting. The cottage is just as pictured. Even with a train passing through nearby the area was very peaceful. Inside the house is quiet as well. Noise doesn’t travel. We noticed that those using upstairs area couldn’t be heard downstairs and vice versa. The veranda is a nice outdoor entertainment area. We enjoyed our morning coffee outside and conversations in the evening watching the sunset and lightening bugs. Mark and Elizabeth were easily accessible by phone, text and email. They communicated with us on several occasions. We took their recommendations on several restaurants and shops in the area and were very pleased.

Wonderful Home
This is a beautifully restored historic home with excellent capacity given its four nice bedrooms - 3 with queen sized beds and 1 with 4 single beds and 3 bathrooms. There were a few areas that could use attention to bring this up above a 4.0. These minor things were shared via email with the owner, who responded very positively about incorporating the suggestions. We look forward to a return visit where we can give it a 5.0 rating.

Looks just like the pictures
The house looks just like the pictures. We had our mothers 90th birthday there and our family had a wonderful time. We cooked meals in the kitchen and had everything we needed. The house was decorated for Christmas. I will say if you are interested in doing any tv watching, or are technically challenged when it comes to tv options; this may be an issue. Additionally there are not tvs in any of the bedrooms if this is important to you. The owners are very responsive to messages and questions.
