Barbara, the owner, was amazing. The place is beautiful, and each room is decorated with so much detail. I recommend 100%. The view from my room was incredible

Beautiful old building, full of character. Restaurant on site was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.

This place is very frustrating. It is an old, historic building which has been expensively restored and it could be fantastic - the problem is that it isn't really a hotel currently, but more a collection of individual rooms off a pretty, narrow street (it is an "albergo diffuso"). The staff were very friendly and helpful (when they were there); the room was spacious, comfortable and very original; there was a cosy wood pellet burner in the room; the food in the restaurant (when it was open) was very, very good. Breakfast was good.
There is no reception area or real heart to the hotel. There is no obvious entrance - on arrival, we eventually found our way to the very closed bar area (another entrance of off the alleyway) where we were given our room key. The bar was then locked up and we were on our own, having been told the bar and restaurant were closed that night (the restaurant was open the following night and was excellent). Our room had only one bedside light and one chair - and as there was nowhere else to go or sit, it wasn't ideal for two people. Also the bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a wooden partition which doesn't reach the ceiling - it is not really a separate space. There are not many eating options in town when the hotel restaurant is shut. With a properly functioning reception/bar area and somewhere welcoming to sit, this would be a fantastic hotel.

It was a lovely stay at La portella. Oppido Lucano sounds kind. It is a whole village on the countryside, the fresh air boosts you up.
The room was large with a confortable bed and a good bathroom. The shower is eye-catching: a kind of futuristic welness shaft with a lot of options to choose from.
There is also a restaurant which is very good with a large choice of local dishes.
The antipasto with homemade bread was delicious so was the fish maincourse.
I had the local red wine, aglianico, which was tasty and the label was beautiful.
The persons are friendly, helpfull and easy going.
There is free parking place.
Bicycles are available for guests.

B&B Portella was extraordinary - a destination in itself, self-contained with restaurant. This is a former medieval castle. The room was beautifully designed to retain the medieval architecture yet with all the comforts. The shower was high tech. If it hadn’t been so unexpectedly cold the day we arrived we would have tried it out. The restaurant is also beautiful - every detail thought out - built by our host Nicola DeRosa, who is a master artisan. The food and service were fabulous. In this tiny modest town one had the feeling of being at a film festival in the wine country. Oppido Lucano is a great anchor for visiting Genzano di Lucania, the Federico II castle at Montserico, Acerenza and other points. Do choose La Portella! You won’t be sorry!
