Set within a beautiful rainforest valley near Mullumbimby and the beaches of Brunswick Heads and Byron, this timber roundhouse-style yurt offers a unique, circular self-contained guest space within our certified organic permaculture farm called Midgard Mountain.
Situated just 20 minutes from the beautiful river and beaches of Brunswick Heads, north of Byron, our certified organic permaculture farm sits amongst a large rural landscape is a mix of vast open mountain plateaus with panoramic views surrounded by sub-tropical rainforest and a national park boundary.

Adjoining this large room is a small self-contained kitchen, a small bathroom with a shower and compost toilet, a sitting/dining room and a large timber deck. The internal bathroom space has an odorless composting toilet and there is a nice outdoor tropical-style shower with hot water on the deck, one step from the door offering full privacy but with views from the shower up to the mountain and rainforests.

Fresh, pristine mountain spring water from the rainforest is used for drinking, bathing and growing food and we have a mix of organic vegetable gardens, fruit trees, orchards, goats, sheep, cows, chickens and self-reliance/permaculture systems which are spread out across the landscape. There are also native animals and lots of bird-life.
The Shalimar is ideal for relaxing, exploring the local area, observing birds, wildlife, permaculture, organic gardening, ethical animal husbandry, therapeutic/medicinal foods and plants, rainforest ecology, local hinterland villages, towns and scenery.
Conveniently located close enough to the coast and nearby attractions but in a quiet, beautiful mountain setting, the Shalimar Roundhouse is suitable for individuals, couples, friends and families on a short to longer-term basis.
Another three guest spaces across the farm provide the option for group bookings, retreats, activities or workshops. We can provide local, organic foods or full catering options and offer some experiential activities such as a permaculture and rainforest tour. Please enquire for more details.

I can't tell you how beautiful our stay was. The building is huge with amazing carpentry. Stunning gardens edible and medicinal. We were so comfortable it had everything we needed and more. A cute kitchen and hot outside shower added to the charm. We will defiantly go back again. Thank you to the owners for an affordable stay and kindness of offering your animals to feed and walks around the creek.

Our small family really enjoyed our stay in the yurt. The property affords a proper break and ability to switch off while still offering all the necessities of comfort. We loved being able to feed the hens and goats, the vegetables and citrus in the gardens. Adam is really knowledgeable about the area and gave loads of suggestions for walks and day trips.

My dear friend and I had a magical four nights in this beautiful valley. The yurt is really well equipped and comfortable, but the location and the energy of the place are what make it so special. Not the place if you want to be coming and going to pubs and bars unless you don’t mind the journey, but those things seem completely unnecessary at Shalimar. Come for the peace, tranquillity, abundance, birdsong, goats, gardens and the opportunity to simply drop into another space…you won’t regret it.

Had a wonderful stay. Yurt was rustic but charming. The kids loved the piano and goats. The farm is surrounded by lush rainforest. Kitchen was fully equipped. Loved the organic garden for herbs and greens. If you want a unique experience I recommend staying here.

Made a last minute decision to take a 3 night break and booked this accommodation without any research at all. My experience far exceeded my expectations. The Yurt is huge! The pictures on this site do not do this property justice. Overall, my entire stay was charming, rustic but with all conveniences available. Totally relaxing. I highly recommend it (but reluctantly because I would really rather keep it all for myself). Thank you, Adam for your hospitality and your manners. See you again some time :)

Stunning location, perfect for rejuvenating after a hectic year. Loved the outdoor shower. The compost toilet was surprisingly not smelly at all. Adam was great showing us around at check in.

A spacious, cosy yurt in amongst the beauty of Northern Rivers Hinterland.
Property is a little way from Mullum, via serene (albeit twisty) country road.
The property was great for friends and I to share space, cook and have fun. The farm animals were not intrusive, neither was the host.

My little family loved the stay at the round house , feeding the goats every morning and exploring the property it was perfect for us would definitely stay again .

Excellent stay. Such a magic place. Adam is a fantastic host. He came down & introduced himself on arrival, filled us in on everything we needed to know and gave us maps for adventures. Loved the gorgeous surrounding gardens & outdoor shower. We will be back for sure.

We had such a great holiday, loved everything about the property. Adam was so welcoming and happy to share local knowledge. We were provided with fresh eggs and access to the organic garden. The kids had the best time, they named all the animals. Thank you Adam for being an amazing host, we can't wait to come back for another visit
