About this house rental

Enjoy your next Wellfleet vacation in a luxurious modernist home, perched up Newcomb Hill, near town and beaches. Designed by Alan Dodge, it is open, filled with windows and light, masterfully geometric, and blends beautifully into the surrounding woods. You enter to a great room decorated with a midcentury, non-fussy sensibility. The kitchen is open, fully equipped, and lends itself perfectly to group cooking and cocktails. Eat your meals in the spectacular screened-in dining room. Outside there are wrap-around decks, a Weber gas grill, and two flagstone patios with flower gardens and a running koi pond. And best of all, the outdoor shower is set away from the house and gives you a sense of communing with nature while still affording privacy. There is a comfortable den with a flat screen tv, apple streaming box, and blue ray player. The house is stocked with books, games, puzzles and movies as well as WIFI, washer-dryer, beach chairs, and a top-of-the-line sound system. A two person kayak is available for your use. The house is fully air conditioned.

The house has five bedrooms, each with access to outdoor space. Three have queen size beds and one can be configured as two twins or one king bed. A library off the great room can be transformed into a fifth bedroom, with a very comfortable deluxe queen size inflatable mattress or two portable cots. The unique design of the house allows for privacy in each bedroom.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a 7 night minimum stay and check in/out is on Saturdays only.

Property is beautifully designed, Japanese inspired, modernist. Very comfortable for our party of 7 older and younger adults. Quiet but close to Wellfleet and the delight of ponds and beaches. We will be back.

Peaceful & inspirational, contemporary & comfortable, large yet cozy this rambling multi-level home is a Wellfleet gem. Gwen & Steven’s home provided the perfect setting for our three generations of family to relax, reacquaint & reset. The architecture is creative & unique while the interior is lovely & filled with comfy modern furniture & bounart. Outside, where the house blends seamlessly with the terrain, the gardens, towering pines & babbling frog ponds soothe & enchant. The walk to town is about a mile & perhaps challenging for those with mobility concerns. Otherwise opportunities for walking & running & cycling abound. There is also a kayak available at nearby Gull Pond. If a Wellfleet holiday is in your plans don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy this treasure!

Open, airy, beautiful vacation house, tastefully decorated, with several nice features that put it over the top: really well-stocked and organized kitchen; a screened-in dining area that gives you the feeling of eating outdoors; cozy decks off the primary bedrooms (in addition to ample patio and deck space on 2 levels); modern A/C units; comfortable beds and furniture. Unlike many houses for rent, this one is extremely well maintained -- usually there's a broken screen that lets the bugs in, or some plumbing issue. NOT here! Clearly the owners are on top of everything. And both of them couldn't be easier, more pleasant or responsive! We will surely be back.

Lovely stay in Woodsy Wellfleet home

Three generations of my family gathered at this home for a late June week. The house was spacious and comfortable, with wraparound decks that provide little sitting nooks outside each bedrooms and one big outdoor eating patio. There were 3 comfortable adult bedrooms, and kids all did well on the pullout couch or cots. Kitchen is well-stocked and easy to work in. And the outdoor shower is such a treat! Location felt private with space for kids to explore, but it was so easy to pop into town when we wanted to. The hosts were warm and responsive from the first interaction. We couldn't have found a better spot to relax with family.

This is a beautiful home in a lovely setting--a quick walk to town, a bay beach and near ponds and the ocean beaches. Most striking was how well equipped and comfortable this house is for a multi-generational family. There are large rooms for being together and spaces for quiet time as well. The Alter’s home was spacious, with enough bedrooms to accommodate our family of 8 (5 adults and 3 children). The setting was beautiful with decks on each level to view the gardens, koi pond, and simply to relax. The children loved the outdoor shower and exploring the gardens. The home is near numerous ponds, beaches, restaurants, and the town of Wellfleet. The Alters were always available by phone or text to answer our questions and were exceptionally accommodating to our specific needs. They were wonderful hosts. I would gladly return to this property.

The Alter’s are gracious, thoughtful hosts. They readily provided us with a guide to the area and welcomed us with a bottle of wine. Their gorgeous house is surrounded by trees and flowers. The deck is a lovely place to read. The open kitchen/living room is bright and comfortable with mid-century modern accents. The bedrooms are comfortable. The outdoor shower is delightful. We throughly enjoyed our time in this tranquil setting.

The house was perfect for our extended family--plenty of room and privacy for everyone. We also loved the easy access to nature trails and bike paths, and we made use of the owners' kayak on Gull Pond. All in all, a great week.

Gwen and Steve's home was a great choice for our Wellfleet vacation (4 adults and 6 teens). The living room and dining porch provided "together" spaces, while the bedrooms, multiple decks and other nooks & crannies allowed for alone time. The weather during our stay was uncharacteristically hot & humid, and the house's high-quality air conditioning was an absolute lifesaver! Likewise, we certainly made extensive use of the ZEN outdoor shower, our very favorite thing about a stay in Wellfleet. The outdoor shower at this property is a vacation unto itself! The quiet, woodsy location gives guests easy (driving) access to all of Wellfleet: ocean beaches, bay beaches, ponds, town and harbor. Every convenience is provided in this home. Our group enjoys cooking; my litmus test for a house rental is whether the kitchen is equipped with a salad spinner. When I saw one in the cupboard, I knew that we had made a great choice. Lastly, the Alters were exceptional hosts. Of course they were not present during our stay, but they were available by phone/text when and if needed. The only shortcoming of this rental property is that it does not have a water view, nor is it within walking distance of a beach. But it truly wins in all other areas.

This was our second time staying at the house and what a pleasure! Our family had a new experience of Wellfleet with this house. A huge kitchen with everything you could need to cook, a large screened in dining room, and a deck with propane grill.So much space for us to spread out and be comfortable. We went to the pond or bay every day and made use of the outdoor shower and the laundry room (a huge plus since we are a big group). Each bedroom has a private porch and is separated from the others for privacy and has AC. Secluded enough so that you can't see or hear the neighbors but close enough to get to everything in town, the pier, etc. Really the house is a dream. Thank you to Steven and Gwen for opening up your home to us!

We were there with a few couples and everyone had accommodations and space to be part of the group and also separate when privacy was desired. Kitchen is well equipped for high end preparations of meals. Views are fantastic and again private from every room. Plenty of room for relaxing exercising. Also a great location- near bike routes and easy to get to water sources (ponds, ocean and bay) and shopping. An overall wonderful experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in this lovely home. It boasts a delightful, airy great room, terrific for conversations and hanging out. The dining room is a glassed in porch with plenty of screens and is a particularly nice spot to sit in during evenings. The home's central location made trips to town, beaches, ponds and golf convenient and quick. Add in a well appointed kitchen and comfortable beds and you can see why this modern gem worked beautifully for our family reunion.
