Dated furniture, fridge, very uncomfortable couches. Need a tv in the main bedroom and have a larger tv in the living room.

Overall it was acceptably clean, I too live in Hawaii with open windows and know what to expect. Given the price, this was more than I expected and I enjoyed my stay immensely. The decor was well done and very esthetically pleasing. Fixing the window screens and cleaning the livingroom a/c unit would seem to be an easy fixes to improve the property.

Poor quality. Pictures are deceiving. Couches smell like body odor. Torn window screens or no screens at all. Window sills are dirty and paint is peeling off. Front door doesn’t secure completely. Cob webs downstairs. The ceiling fan is falling out of the wall. Crumbs on top and at the bottom of the toaster. Coffee pot with ground remnants and a brown glass pot. Pots and pans are scratched up. Paint over laminated counter tops is peeling off. Stove top is clouded and scratched up. Refrigerator is scratched up. Dried brown something spilled on the cabinets and is still there. Bedroom downstairs stinks. Throw rugs are stained. Bath towels are frayed. White kitchen cabinets show how dirty this place is. Low water pressure. Trash outside was overflowing. Walk through water and mud to get from car park to front door. Plenty of space, it’s quiet, decorated nicely, and is walking distance to stores and restaurants. Seemed to be a safe neighborhood.

This was one of the worst rentals we ever stayed at. Some parts of it were just grungy but all of it needed a good cleaning and replacement of bug screens. We chose not to contact the host about this as we were only staying for a few nights and spent all our time sightseeing. The A/C mainly created noise without getting the inside of the house to a comfortable temperature. Would certainly never stay there again

We arrived to the property and couldn’t stay. The house was not as expected. The house was stifling hot with only window AC units in two of the rooms and they didn’t even blowing cold air. There was little to no air flow in the house and very few windows could be opened. The house was filthy, food in the cupboards, countertops were falling apart, dirty floors, stove, and dead bugs everywhere. We left immediately and filed a claim, to which they denied. This entire experience was a nightmare. I hope this review will save someone the trouble and money spent to this terrible company. I will never rent from them again.

It was a wonderful house and we really did enjoy our stay. But the floors were still pretty dirty, you could actually see some dust bunnies around the corners and edges and we had a 1 year old crawling around. The freezer had grass in it and there were food crumbs on the shelves in the fridge. We really did enjoy our stay though, thank you!

We liked the location as it was walkable to some decent restaurants and a market. The place is an older, fairly spacious home with some designer upgrades here and there to make it comfortable. Appliances are older with some wear and tear, but mostly functional. Beds were very comfy and my wife loved the pillows. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, pots and pans, etc. for any cooking needs, but we didn't really make meals during our stay. There were a couple cleanliness issues which I have communicated with the property contact and I'm hoping was just a one time thing. Overall, I'd use the words "adequate", "sufficient" or "satisfactory". Not a lot of "wow" factor, but it is a cute home and it worked out great for us.

We were really impressed with the home. It was in good location. It was spacious and has ample supply of towels, pillows, sheets. The house was clean but some tables and shelves were dusty. It was disgusting that the shower curtain upstairs was moldy. According to the posted house rules, we have to gather all towels and run the washing machine! I wonder what the cleaning or service fee is for?

Convenient, easy to check in and out. Management gave clear instructions. An excellent experience.

The house was centrally located in Hilo, very convenient. It was well stocked & supplied with lots of kitchen items (dishes, pots, pans etc) and even a variety of condiments. There was nothing we looked for and couldn't find. Appreciated the updated appliances. Very spacious. Ample towels, pillows.
It was very muggy in Hilo during our stay and the opening the windows didn't bring in enough air to keep the house cool since not all of the windows could open.
The air conditioners had a hard time cooling the rooms especially the main floor upstairs after being closed up with ACs off all day (as requested).
Overall we enjoyed our stay and the space afforded in this home. and would recommend it.
Suggestion: change out the shower curtain liner as it was stained.

Perfectly located for Hilo area activities, this property was plenty of space for the 3 of us. Tons of extra room, comfortable beds and living space, was exactly as advertised. If you like cats, Callie from next door was very friendly as well!

Very disappointed
The quality and cleanliness of the house is not at all like it appears in the photos. The kitchen counters and sink were filthy and sticky. Mold and mildew throughout. Dust and grime buildup everywhere. The downstairs shower curtain was full of black mold. We could never get the house to a comfortable temperature. Walls need to be scrubbed clean as they had dirt and stains on them in every room. The couch cushions were disgusting with stains all over them. The table only had 3 chairs. Floors need to be properly cleaned. We were highly disappointed with our stay. This house needs major cleaning. What are we paying a cleaning fee for if the house isn’t cleaned in between guests?

Great value, very comfortable!
We were able to sleep 7 comfortably on two queens, a twin, a futon, and the couch. The neighborhood is quiet, the house is spacious and comfortable, the kitchen has all the amenities we needed. The location is convenient in Hilo, but we rented a car and drove places every day anyway so that was less of a concern for us. It was only a 5 minute drive from the airport, which was super convenient! Highly recommend this bungalow. You won't find a better deal in Hilo.

WONDERFULLY BLISSFUL
It was amazing! It was better than the pictures and had everything we could possibly need. I stayed there the weekend of my wedding and it was my safe heaven when things got crazy. Thank you to the owners and care takers it was perfect!

It’s ok.
The house is located in an excellent spot. Close to everything. It could use more air conditioners as Hilo gets very humid.

Cute plantation home
This property brought back nostalgic feelings of growing up in a plantation community and reflects the ambiance of Hilo town. Perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood with a average driving distance of 10 minutes to desired locations within the town. Also based on past reviews: 3 chairs at dining table; unsafe cooking pots/pans; torn couches; downstairs camera (which property manager revalidated wasn’t working); non-working tv downstairs was present upon check-in. A couple of recommendations to enhance this property: rice cooker, replace the single bed with at least a full size bed in the “baby room”, and AC downstairs. It is too hot for a working office space. However, our family enjoyed our stay here in spite of the imperfections, precious memories were created, and we would definitely look to staying on this property again.

The pictures portray a much newer house than what it actually is.
Super old hard beds, frig barely kept things cold, no fans made house extremely hot, couch fabric tearing off, pots and pans peeling unsafe to cook with,

Adorable little place - everything that we needed and so close to down town.
Sweet, basic little house. Everything you need - nothing that you don’t. Great for a no frills clean spot in HILO.

Cockroach in the Crisper!
If the title didn't scare you off read on.... Spent the first hour of our vacation cleaning the fridge of bugs, stains and old food. Had to fish the two inch cockroach out from behind the crisper with a wooden spoon because the fridge wouldn't pull out (stuck to the floor??) Top of the fridge is greasy and furry and hasn't been cleaned in years. The kitchen cabinets were no better. Rusted pans and dirty, sticky shelves. We chose to go to Wal-Mart for new clean stuff and never opened the cabinets again....gross. How does a cleaner miss this stuff? No toaster so we bought one for $12. The new stuff we gave to Goodwill on our way home so you are on your own.The unit is advertised as sleeping 7 but has only one bedroom upstairs. Basement is musty and has two small dark bedrooms with a portable A/C unit that we had to set up in the window ourselves. At least 20% of the lights in the unit don't work including the fridge bulb. There is a broken window in the kid's bedroom and a creepy ceiling camera in the hall that is apparently not functional. The rusty washer and dryer was stuffed with lint from previous users...yuck. Despite "sleeping 7" there are only 3 chairs at the small pub table. They advertise 4 chairs and previous reviews from several months ago noted that there were only 3. We foolishly assumed that this would have been rectified by now but this owner is clearly not interested in putting another nickel into the unit after the cheap laminate floor was purchased to make the cover shot look good. We did contact the owners representative who said she was away and relied on her cleaner to do a decent job. She sent someone to empty the garbage which was overflowing with the previous renters crap but did not address the chair issue other than to say other people didn't complain and just sat at the couch....seriously? We asked for a partial refund and were blown off. This place is a gross mess with a disinterested owner and property manager. Don't be fooled by the pretty cover photo. Stay somewhere else.

Great home for a family of 7 (and then some)!
We loved this house and would love to stay again! It's beautiful, centrally located, and convenient for quick and easy access to anything you need. The home was well-stocked with towels and linens, eating and kitchen utensils, some pantry items, and even some toiletries! There was LOTS of room for our family of seven and comfortably fit 7 more family members, who were rested and cooled off at our place until they could check in to their rental property.
The home is nicely decorated and the beds were comfortable. There is an A/C unit upstairs in the kitchen and a portable A/C unit downstairs and ceiling fans in all three bedrooms plus the two fans in the living room. The Wi-Fi worked well for all of our devices. Although not included in the pictures, there are stairs in the home to walk between both levels of the home. (Note: They are a bit steep, but it was fine for us. There is a baby gate at the top of the stairs, if you have a toddler.) There were two storage benches upstairs (one in the bedroom and one in the living room) that we used for additional seating & resting in the cooler living room to sit. Rachel was very prompt in responding to our needs and questions and, when we asked, gave recommendations on good places to eat.
Why 4 stars? The main reason is that it was HOT. It would have been nice to have more A/C units in all of the rooms (especially in the upstairs bedroom). Hilo was very hot and humid while we were there and the A/C units were not equipped to cool the large rooms. Other smaller reasons include: more chairs or bar stools would have been nice to have to eat at the island and the table; the downstairs TV did not work; and one of the downstairs windows was broken.

Great Location!
Property is in a great, central location and property manager was helpful with answers before our stay. Like most all Hilo homes, you enter the "first floor" by going up approximately 10 steps to enter the house. The main floor had a small dining area (only had 3 chairs - one was missing), spacious great room with sofa and love seat, tv, kitchen with island - it would have been nice to have bar stools for the island for additional seating - master bedroom and bath. Downstairs "basement level" had two bedrooms (one with a queen and one with a single and a crib) along with a sitting area with the futon sofa/bed and office desk and the laundry room/full bathroom. We had 7 in our party and house was spacious enough, however, our only "complaint" was that there wasn't enough seating to lounge once the downstairs futon bed was pulled out (though we did keep it open rather than open/close it every day.) I only mention the seating because we rented a house so that we wouldn't have to eat out every day and there wasn't enough table/counter seating for 7 of us either. The only other reason this place has four stars is that almost all the cook ware needs to be replaced as there was only one "decent" frying pan and only one usable pot - on the others the non-stick coating was all peeling and/or some sort of rust or the stainless ones had burnt on grease. Otherwise amenities and location were ideal! We would stay again if our travels bring us back to Hilo.

Dissatisfied
My family booked this property on February 4, 2018 when there was no volcanic activity an d hazards on the island. Now there are many hazards and concerns (homes destroyed, injuries, air quality). The official Air Quality Index (AQI) as published by the state of Hawaii has shown 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' in cities from the west (Kona) to the south and east pars of the island. Our oldest daughter has had asthma since she was a child so we will stay in Kauai and not go to the Big Island. We have been friendly with Evolve but they will not refund our $211 deposit. They have communicated, and I quote, "as long as the home is accessible and functioning properly, even in the case of natural disasters, ... discretion is of the homeowner to provide a cancelation ...". It does not appear we will get a refund. Be wary of booking this property through Evolve.
Manager's Response: Hi Mark, We understand that the recent volcanic activity in Hawaii is a concern for travelers, and we are always willing to re-accommodate our guests if a property is unsafe for any reason. After confirming with the homeowner and the resources provided by Hawaiian officials, we are happy to confirm that the air quality in Hilo has been unaffected by the volcano. The property is also located more than 30 miles from the eruption site and is therefore safe for all travelers with no risk of injury or damage due to the volcano. We do appreciate you working with us through this process and hope that the measures taken by Evolve make up for any inconvenience. Best, the Evolve Team

Perfect house!
We had such a comfortable stay! The listing for this house was very accurate, the property was immaculate, the owner was quick with responses and very nice. I would HIGHLY recommend this great family house for your stay on the Big Island, and I can’t wait to return.
