Our family cabin is the perfect mix of charm, convenience, and quirkiness. (Think squeaky hardwood floors, mountain decor, and modern appliances.) You'll enjoy a well-stocked kitchen & pantry, bedrooms ready to use with linens & towels provided, location near lake, upgraded kitchen & bathrooms, and ample space to socialize and yet, find privacy.
Plus, easy entry/exit with just a couple steps into the cabin and plenty of parking on a slightly sloped driveway. A Smart Lock with a code of your choosing allows simple entry. It couldn't get pop any easier for unloading your stuff.
In addition to the modern appliances (dishwasher, fridge, 5 burner stove and oven, we also have a microwave, coffee-maker, coffee-grinder, toaster, crockpot, blender, mixer, waffle iron, and more. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking staples and every utensil imaginable! A farm table in the adjacent dining room comfortably seats 8 - 10.
We really couldn't have a better location. We're a couple miles off of Highway 108. It’s just a 5 minute stroll to the lake. The lake is open to our registered guests between Memorial and Labor Day. The lake charges $8 per person per day independently of our cabin charges. Downtown Twain Harte is a 10-14 minute walk. The Twain Harte Tennis (and Pickle Ball) Courts are right across the street, the 9 hole golf course is a 3-minute drive, Dodge Ridge ski area is 23 miles up Hwy 108, and the Black Oak Casino is about a 15 minute drive. Yosemite Valley is 1.5 to 2 hrs drive depending on traffic.
Snow removal in winter: We strive to provide one snow plow, when needed after excessive snowfall, before guests arrive. After that, guests are responsible for clearing snow. There are snow shovels in the basement.
With only 2 steps up to the front porch and deck, the front door opens into an inviting living room with a stone (gas) fireplace, pine walls, and comfy leather furniture and antiques. In winter there is central heating throughout, a gas fireplace in the living room, and three portable heaters if you just want to heat the room you’re in. Fresh breezes, portable fans and central air conditioning (AC) cool the cabin in summer. WiFi and DVD-players connect to the 40” Samsung Smart wall-mounted TV in the living room to enjoy app-related I programming (no cable) and DVDs, respectively. Or listen to vinyl records of Frank Sinatra (and other golden oldies) on the Victrola turntable. The expansive sunroom runs the rear width of the cabin. The carpeted sunroom also has a lovely oak piano for your enjoyment.
Three bedrooms are on the main floor.
1) Master Queen Bed (QB) Bedroom;
2) Queen Bed (QB) Bedroom;
3) Double Bed (DB) Bedroom;
Upstairs you'll find a loft with 2 twin beds. (Hey kids, there's even a ladder and trap door leading into the loft if you prefer to ascend that way!)
The cabin sleeps up to 8 comfortably in beds. With our approval, there is a $25 charge per person per night for each guest over 8. Extra blankets are in the chest in the sunroom. Extra linens are in the dresser in each bedroom. Iron and board are in the closet of the small double-bedroom. (But really, who needs to iron their clothes in the mountains?!)
Two upgraded bathrooms each with a shower (no bathtubs) will soothe those aching muscles. The main bathroom is situated between the otwo queen bedrooms (towels are available here). The smaller bathroom is attached within the double bedroom.
A large basement, accessed by both an interior stairway and an exterior rear door, has washer, dryer, room to store your supplies, bikes, floaties, beach chairs, wagon, etc. It's a tad creepy down there at first, but we love it and think you will too! Come down to play foosball or ride the two hybrid bikes for your use. During the summer, badminton is set up in the little backyard court, and the hammock awaits you. I can feel you unwinding already!
Perhaps you’d like to have a small campfire behind the cabin? (Yep, we really mean small.) Please do it WITH GREAT CAUTION and PRECAUTIONS to keep the homesite safe under DIRECT ADULT SUPERVISION. (Note: Strict instructions are provided in the Welcome Book for setting a warming fire in the backyard fire pit. A 5 gallon bucket must be filled with water, the faucet turned on with the hose laid out to the pit ready for dowsing the fire. Please restock the fire pit with wood for the next guest.
What else can you do?? In addition to the activities listed above, at our little town’s Eproson Park you can find a Bocce Ball court and a mini skateboard park. Nearby is the awesome miniature golf course that probably hasn't changed since your grandparents came here as kids themselves. There are countless trails and rivers and lakes to explore nearby, and a bunch of historical points of interest as well. Not into that? Then grab a book, sit in an Adirondack chair, and enjoy tall trees, mountain air, and lovely breezes. There's a grill and tables on the front deck; there are chairs and plenty of space to unwind, do yoga, or play corn hole on the back deck and lawn. Did I mention games? Yes, we have plenty, plus puzzles too! Oh, and the piano. Don't forget that. (It's not in great tune, but heck, it is vintage as well.).We’re an outstanding choice to stay in Twain Harte. Really. (Read our reviews and you'll see!)
The cabin generally rents weekly in summer (7-night minimum). There’s a 2-night minimum most other times. The minimum stay can vary over certain holidays (see calendar).
A signed vacation rental contract (supplied by Owner/Manager) and valid Drivers License are required within 3 weeks of booking a reservation. Renter also agrees to provide a separate $300 refundable security deposit, if requested, in addition to purchasing a $59 damage policy. (The security deposit is returned if no additional cleaning or repair of damaged items is necessary ~ and if rules and policies (no smoking/limit to 8 guests) are obeyed); The additional refundable deposit has been implemented to hold accountable the few guests who don’t honor their vrbo contract.
*To be honest, we're pretty picky about who we rent to. We want you to feel completely at home, so we provide everything we can think of that you might want. But we expect you to care for our little cabin with the utmost of care. (Pretend we are there and you are our personal guests... that's how you should leave it.)
There is also a $150 cleaning fee per stay. The $150 cleaning fee covers usual and customary cleaning duties. By this, we mean that the renter will use the cabin with good care and leaves it in good condition requiring only light cleaning by our cleaner. (Extra cleaning due to excessive soiling will incur extra cleaning fees based on actual amounts charged by the cleaners.) We will refundable your security deposit (if no additional cleaning or repair of damaged items is necessary).
Absolutely no smoking, vaping, parties or pets are allowed on our property. There is a minimum $200 fee each for smoking or bringing pets. Please don’t.
Ring Security cameras are on the exterior of the cabin for the safety of guests, confirm guest party size, adherence to pet and smoking policies, monitor against intruders and monitor adverse weather conditions. We live in San Diego and have installed Ring cameras to keep an eye on the cabin. We do not monitor our guests comings and goings.
__________
*Note that the owner’s dog has occasionally stayed in the cabin - important to know in case of a potential allergy to pets. It is a rare occurrence that we have a pet in the cabin.*
We, the owners, want you to enjoy yourselves as our valued guests. You agree to care for the cabin to a high standard when renting it. This is our beloved family get-away cabin, too.
We hope that you’ll want to come back. Have fun! Please alert us if you’re a repeat visitor when requesting a reservation.
Thank you very much.

From the moment you get out of the car smell the pines, see the Adirondack chairs around a campfire, corn hole on the lawn and a badminton court you know it’s going to be a fun week and that’s before you even enter the cabin. Once you do step in you enter the quintessential lake cabin of knotty pine and cozy cabin decor. Rooms are clean and spacious, the kitchen/cabin is by far the most organized and well stocked of any cabin we have rented in the 40+ years of coming to Twain Harte. Indoors is as relaxing as out either sitting by a big river rock fireplace or in swivel chairs looking down at the yard there is a place for everyone to sit with a book and relax or plays games (as well as kids toys in their own play room!) this cabin has it all…oh yes and the lake is walking distance down the road!! You will love it!

We had a wonderful time. The cabin was absolutely lovely and very expansive so we could really spread out. We loved the proximity to the lake with the children. The check in process was super smooth and communication with the property manager was fantastic. I will definitely stay at this property again. Thank you.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming and serene cabin. Clearly a great deal of care has gone into creating such a warm and inviting home. Of course, we loved our days at the lake but also just hanging out at the cabin enjoying the trees, birds and deer visits. Very responsive owners (not that we needed anything--it was all there, including A/C). We would love to return.

We LOVE coming to Twain Harte, and we always stay at this cabin. The lake access is awesome, there are a lot of things to do, and the owners make our stay so pleasant and rewarding. Badminton, fire pit, beach chairs and umbrella, lots of games, brand new appliances and A/C, new windows, all these things made our stay so comfortable and memorable. We will come back again and again.

We came for the skiing, but when high winds closed down Dodge Ridge we spent the day exploring Twain Harte and around Pinecrest. The power went out for a bit due to the wind, but the house was still warm and cozy. The description is accurate and I’d say this is a great place for families and older kids that can follow directions (about safe ladder use and properly using a record player). The kitchen was nicely stocked so it was easy to cook meals at the cabin.
4.8
Sweet, well organized and well stocked cabin with everything needed for a family trip. We had two families each with toddler age kids sharing the cabin for a long weekend and all thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

We cannot say enough about our stay at David and Janet’s cabin in Twain Harte. I grew up in the area and can definitively say it’s truly the perfect location and property for a visit any time of year. David is a great communicator and stayed in contact with us both before we arrived and while we were there to ensure everything was going well and up to our expectations. Additionally, our stay happened to be over Christmas break and upon arrival we found that they had already decorated the cabin for the holidays. Again, perfection. Since I perviously lived in the area, we were able to have friends and family visit during our stay and they were all impressed and remarked on how nice it was as well.
I guess the highest compliment anyone could say is that if you had a vacation rental/cabin; and I’ve had a few, David and Janet’s is the ideal of what you should want yours to be for your guests. It’s that good.

Our group of 7 had an awesome stay at the cabin. We've stayed at several cabins in the Twain Harte are over the past several years, and this was everybody's favorite, hands down. The house has a perfect location within walking distance of the lake and right across the street from the tennis court and pickleball courts, and the house was well stocked with pickleball paddles and balls, so we were very entertained even though the weather happened to be a little too cold for swimming in the lake when we were there. David was extremely communicative and provided detailed and helpful instructions and suggestions. The house itself was very nice with plenty of room for our group of 7 to spread out (we loved lounging in the sunroom), and the yard was great with the badminton court and the firepit area. Absolutely no complaints!
4.8
Our family of 3 loved our stay, especially the lovely deer walking through the back yard! David was great and easy to communicate with - we look forward to going back next year.
4.8
Great house! Close to Twain Harte Lake which the kids were able to walk to. David was easy to communicate with and had the AC on when we arrived! The house had great toys/games for the kids and had a wagon to get all the kids toys/chairs/floats to the lake! We can’t wait to come back next year! Tennis court and pickle ball right across the street was also great for the adults.

My family and I loved the Shalinsky's cabin in Twain Harte. It's a lovely cabin in a very good location. It's not just the air conditioning (which is key - believe my I've rented houses w/o it): it's also the cabin itself which has all the amenities one needs. Very well furnished and nicely decorated. We loved that the property is flat. Nice yard for hanging out in. Many of the properties in TH are build on a hill which makes it hard for elderly and young children: the Shalinsky's property is very usable. The loft is not air conditioned so we didn't use it but if we do get a chance to rent next year (we hope we can) I think we'll bring a portable air conditioner. All in all FANTASTIC!
4.8
We’ve rented many cabins in TH and by far, this cabin is the best! Lake is a short walk, pickleball courts right across the street, shortcut behind the baseball field gets you to the Park and downtown. With the rising summer temperatures, this cabin has newly installed air conditioning. Very spacious indoors and out with a deck in front and large lawn area in the back. The best part is parking in the carport with no steps to climb and kitchen right by the door!
4.8
Great cabin for families in a fun little town. Choose to Dodge ridge/ Pinecrest area for snow sports. David was great to work with and responsive the whole trip.
4.8
We had a great experience, kitchen was pleasantly well equipped for all our meals, and the large table fit our whole group comfortably. Very clean, and David was a wonderful host. Would definitely come back in the winter for the lovely views and looking forward to a summer stay to check out the lake.
4.8
The cabin is cozy, clean and well-kept. The host stayed in touch and made sure we had everything we needed. This is a great jumping off point for skiing at Dodge Ridge. We stayed in January and there was a storm, but because we were just below the snow line, travel to and from the cabin from the Bay Area was easy.
4.8
We had a wonderful stay at this cozy cabin. The property was beautifully kept and clean and David, the owner, was so communicative before and during our stay. We chose this location as it was close to Dodge Ridge Ski Resort. We would highly recommend this place and we would definitely return!

A short get away with adults and toddler. This cabin fit all our needs. The fire pit was a great relaxing addition. Rainy days allowed for us to play games cabin offered, which were lots of fun. Large dining table allowed us to all eat together. Sunroom windows provided a relaxing view. Loved the 4 deer that welcomed us in our arrival❤️

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this nicely updated, rustic cabin, that is just a short walk from Twain Harte lake. The cabin has a very nicely updated kitchen, as well as two of the bathrooms. In general the place is very clean and comfortable (excel beds with plenty of pillows). The cabin is nestled in a beautiful setting among other vacation cabins and a very spacious deck and pleasant yard for hanging out in. The owners were great to deal with and communicated with me extremely well… Very warm and inviting. We would definitely stay here again.
4.8
The cabin was the perfect getaway for Labor Day Weekend. We appreciated the air conditioning immensely on the main level as it was an incredibly hot weekend. The cabin is just a short walk to Twain Harte Lake and extremely close to the quaint downtown area. Communication with owners was easy and thorough. We appreciate the thoughtfulness of amenities and would gladly rent here again.
4.8
This cabin exceeded our expectations in every way...it was wonderfully laid out, boasted chic mountain décor, featured tons of amenities from a coffee area and fire pit to a garage full of outdoor toys and indoor games and dress up. There was space to explore outside and a beautiful view of the trees and deer from inside. Communication was excellent and our stay was easy, carefree, and lovely.
4.8
My family really enjoyed our stay here! The cabin is clean. David is a really diligent homeowner and checks up occasionally to make sure you have everything you need. All the amenities are clearly labelled. The cabin has a nice sunroom. Nearly every day, we saw deer and other wildlife visiting the backyard! I really appreciate that the cabin has air conditioning because Twain Harte can get HOT during the summer. I will say the AC doesn't reach the upstairs loft area, so it's still relatively hot up there, but we didn't need the two smaller loft beds (there are 3 bedrooms downstairs), so that wasn't a problem for us! The cabin is located just a short walk away from Twain Harte Lake. It includes all sorts of fun activities (foosball, cornhole, badminton court, near a tennis/pickleball court, and a firepit). This was a really fun getaway for my family and me. Thanks David and Janet!

How did we get so lucky to be able to snag this place? The location was perfect. The cabin was comfy and roomy with lots of places to hang out. The (nearly in-tune) piano was such a bonus! David was communicative and responsive and it's clear that they care a lot about their cabin and the experience their guests have in it.
This was our first time in Twain Harte and we already can't wait to go back.

Incredible Cabin
We had an amazing experience at camp tuoligan! Firstly the host David, was so gracious and accommodating. He made so the arrangements for an early checkin for us, and honestly went beyond what we expected. Just lovely people, I felt lucky to have met them.
Now the cabin, I don't think I can express in words how amazingly well it's maintained, just a beautifully done space. Everything is thought about, has all the things you'll need for a visit. The outdoor space is wonderful as well, the attention to detail was impeccable. we can't wait to visit again.
Thank you David and Janet for such a lovely experience. Hope to keep coming!

A Very Special Cabin
There are many things we loved about this cabin; the location, the view from the windows in the sunroom, the kitchen that was centralized and opened to every room, the choices of exterior spaces (front deck with two tables and four umbrellas, back grassy area with fire pit and badminton net), three nice sized bedrooms and two bathrooms, and all the decor of a cabin in the mountains. Our hosts were very kind and provided the necessary information we needed for a most enjoyable stay. The first three days were in the 100’s, but suggestions by David, like opening all the windows at 8 pm and shutting them by 8 am, helped; plus there were many fans placed in each room. I have been told that an air conditioner will be installed. A wonderful time was had by all and we will most definitely be back in 2022!!

As soon as we checked in, the cabin was just what we were hoping for. Clean, everything you needed + more, and such a rustic mountain feel. Mattress’s and pillows were very comfortable.
The cabin is close to all areas in Twain Harte. Comfortable walking distance to the private lake, park, restaurants and mini golf.
We had a great family stay and if we travel to that area again, we will definitely check to see if it will be available.
Host is a absolute charm as well!

We had a wonderful time staying here. The location is close to town, but far enough to enjoy quiet and privacy. Hosts were easily available and responsive to texts in order to help with any requests for information, and were very gracious with a few "perks"! We enjoyed using the badminton court, foosball table, outdoor lounge chairs, and more. We had a great day at Twain Harte Lake, which the hosts set up for us, and did day hikes and swimming at Pinecrest. Outstanding vacation, thanks David!

Beautiful property with fire pit to enjoy
The property was very well maintained. All the instructions were described in detail. Hosts were prompt with their replies. The town is super friendly. Hope to visit soon.

The whole experience from the booking request to checking out of the cabin was the smoothest transaction I’ve ever had renting a cabin and I’ve rented plenty. The cabin was extremely clean, well furnished with beautiful touches everywhere, the record player and records was awesome and the well-stocked cabin made the trip more like being at home which I think everyone wants to feel when they are in someone else’s home. I couldn’t believe the kitchen.....it had everything other than the food to cook meals....condiments, spices, cooking oil etc. Most cabins supply just enough paper towels and toilet paper to barely get you by...there was rolls and rolls of it in the basement. Though the cabin doesn’t have A/C, there were plenty of fans in the basement for all the rooms but only needed them for the bedrooms....the rest of the cabin stayed nice and cool. The outdoor area (front and back) were perfect...we didn’t use the fire pit but plan to come back in the Fall to make s’mores which by the way the ingredients were all there along with skewers so we didn’t have to use dirty branches. David checked in us the day after we checked in to make sure we were good and if we had any questions or concerns.....I’ve never had an owner do that and truly appreciated his desire to make sure we were feeling right at home. We can’t wait to come back in the Fall to use the fireplace and fire pit in the back. Thank you David and Janet for allowing us to share your home for the weekend.....it was absolutely perfect.
