Oceanfront home featuring 500 square foot Oceanfront deck!
Unique layout-Upper level features 3 bedrooms 2 and ½ baths. Ground level area features 1 bedroom with only 3 steps to enter. Ground level also features ½ bath and 2 enclosed outdoor showers. Please note there is a separate outside entrance from Ground level to Upper level.
Upper level features a Gourmet kitchen with 3 ovens and plenty of work space. Living area offers a separate wet bar area with sink along with a large picture window overlooking the ocean and beach. Just off the kitchen is the dining area with plenty of seating.
There is a ½ bath down the hallway along with a full size Washer and Dryer. Just off the hallway is Bedroom #1 with a Queen bed and access to a Private Bathroom. Bedroom #2 will have a Pyramid Bunk (Double on the bottom, Trundle underneath. Bedroom #3 is the Master Bedroom and is located on the Oceanside of the home. It offers a King bed and has a Master Bath with a full sized Jacuzzi whirlpool tub.
Bedroom #4 is located on the Ground Level and has a Queen bed, vanity/sink, microwave, coffee pot and mini refrigerator.
All bedrooms have ceiling fans 2 fans in living/dining area. Enjoy plenty of beach 200 feet of private access. NO SMOKING, Sleeps 10. The turnover day for this home is Saturday. Guest must bring their own bed linen, towels, paper and soap products. Beds all have mattress pads, pillows and bed covering. Pet fee is per dog if you have two dogs there is an additional pet fee of $250

House was right on the beach with an amazing deck overlooking the beach and ocean. Best part of every day was enjoying morning coffee pre-dawn through sunrise on the deck. Second best part of the day was cooking in the best-stocked kitchen I have ever encountered in a rental house. The downstairs room was perfect and private for visiting family members.
Owner was friendly and responsive to all inquiries and requests.
We would stay here again without question.

The house was exactly as listed and had everything you could want or need in a vacation rental. The location was perfect. We watched dolphins from the deck almost every day. Our dog loved hanging out on the large deck and the gate kept him safe. We ate dinner on the deck several nights as the sun was setting- lovely. Terry’s house is perfect for an OBX vacation!

We had a lovey stay at this property (4 adults and a dog). There are no surprises here – the house was exactly as pictured and described, was very clean, very well-equipped and consistent with the reviews. The house feels very spacious with the high ceilings and open layout, and you can enjoy the beach front view even from the couch. While it is a tad dated, the kitsch adds to the charm & fancy-free OBX beach feel. We were fortunate to have great weather and were able to fully enjoy the beach & the deck! Kitty Hawk has a great vibe, Terry was a great, responsive host & we would definitely stay here again.
Things someone might want to know:
• The dune is very steep. There are steps at the bottom of the house side, along with a little walkway to help with traction. You’re on your own on the seaside. While it was no issue for us, it could be quite difficult for someone with mobility issues.
• As clearly stated in the description, the fourth bedroom is under the main house with a separate entrance. It may not be suitable for everyone, so keep that in mind. You have to leave the room to access the toilet & outdoor shower. I would not have wanted to stay down there alone, but that’s just me.
• Proximity to the road was a worry for me but totally was not an issue. Your whole focus will be on the ocean that is right at your doorstep! The deck is spacious, solid & secure. The heavy gate latches from both sides, so no worries about kids and pets!

We had a wonderful week at the Mermaid! The house was so cute and charming. The location was everything! The beach being so close made it so nice going back and forth to the house with our kids. Everything was nearby in terms of shopping, restaurants etc. Terry was very easy to contact and returned texts right away. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our time! Especially when the dolphins swam by!

We had a great time staying here. Kitchen is well equipped and there was plenty of space. Very quick walk over a dune to get to the beach and great views from the upper deck. The younger kids had a great time playing on the lower level under the deck too. Thanks for a lovely stay!

The property is just as pictured. It is very clean. We had never been to OBX, so we toured the Wright Brothers Memorial, the Corolla lighthouse, the Whalehead Mansion and did some shopping. The beach is not busy at all this time of year. The views are gorgeous. The deck is so big and nice. Terry has everything you need in the kitchen to cook.

House was spacious, clean, and comfortable. The deck was a great place for our kids to play in the sun when we weren't on the beach. The area below the main house is very unique and convenient with shower and bathroom when coming back from the beach. Our only difficulty was with the sizable dune between the house and the beach that made it difficult for young and elderly family members to access the beach.

This is probably one of our favorite houses. We loved the house and the deck , house had all the necessities you would need to cook and relax on the beach . The only thing I can say bad about the place is if we hadve had our elderly parents they wouldn’t have hot to go the the beach because of the huge sand dune. Wish they would’ve had a set up steps to get to the ocean .

The Mermaid is a beautiful oceanfront home!!!! The host is wonderful to work with and the place is located as close to the ocean as you can get! It is a beautiful place that is equipped with everything you would need if you wanted to cook with a big dining room table and a great open design for our whole family, there were nine of us which included four children ages 1,2,3 and 4. We ordered out or went out every night so we didn’t use much of the wonderful accessories she does have there, so well stocked. So much larger than it actually looks in pictures with the three bedrooms upstairs, two full baths up there and a powder room and we never even used the downstairs bedroom which is very nicely equipped with a refrigerator and the bathroom downstairs and shower which we did use when we were on the beach because it was so handy! Very easy little hike up the sand dune and down the other side which was no problem even with all of our little ones we enjoyed the beach every day I can’t say enough about this beautiful home and the wonderful host if you’re looking for a place this is your place to go! Coffee on the deck, in her beautiful high Adirondack chairs watching the dolphins in the morning is about as good as you can get!!!

The Perfect Beach Location
This was the perfect place for our beach vacation. The large front room overlooks the ocean, pictures don't do it justice. The extra large deck was where we spent our evenings sipping wine and watching the waves. The home was clean and well stocked, the property manager was accessible and attentive. From reservation to check.out, this owner and house do not disappoint! She answered questions before our stay about fishing excursions etc, We arrived very very early, I let her know and she did her best to get us in asap! The house has the most awesome deck where you can watch dolphins, sunrises and your teenagers having the best time! The house seriously has everything you could need to cook for a large family, washer and dryer, great A/C, plenty of space to spread out. The home is decorated with a fun mermaid theme and is so comfortable! If you are looking for a house that is clean, comfy, accommodating, fun and has 30 second access to the beach, look no more! Great Vacation Home Right on the Beach
We have always wanted to stay at a vacation home ON the beach. We definitely got that when we stayed at The Mermaid!
The Mermaid met all the needs of our group of 6 adults and one child. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were very comfortable. The kitchen is huge and had everything anyone might need (including a 6 qt. Crockpot and muffin tins!).
The bedroom on the lower level is perfect for a couple that might want a bit more privacy from the rest of their group. The bedroom itself has a coffemaker, microwave oven and dorm size fridge, along with bathroom, separate shower area and lovely sitting area.
The deck on the house had the perfect chairs and tables to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning and crabs in the evening while watching the waves.
The owner was very responsive when we reported a small maintenance issue.
We are definitely considering a return visit to The Mermaid!

Overall, the house and property are in good condition, and the owner has clearly paid a lot of attention to decorating details with a mermaid motif (the name of the house is "Mermaids"). Overall, we were very happy with our stay in this house. The owner was very responsive to our questions and needs.There is a lower level to the house which has a single bedroom/suite with a queen bed, as well as it's own mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker; there is also a non-connected half-bath. This lower bedroom did have a slight musty odor. There are also 2 showers for rinsing off sand on this level. The main living space is on the upper level & has an open layout which is great for families. The kitchen is well equipped and the appliances are all in good working condition. There are three bedrooms on the main floor--a Master bedroom with king bed & private full bath, a second room with queen bed and private bath,, and a third bedroom with a bunk bed and trundle (3 beds total). The first two bedrooms are in great shape, however the trundle/bunk is quite old and very creaky anytime you move in either bunk. The closets are also unfinished with various odds and ends. All of the bedrooms have ceiling fans and a TV. There is an additional very small half-bath in the hallway. There is also a large wooden deck overlooking the beach with lots of chairs...great for entertaining.The location of the property is good, directly on the beach with an easy commute to shopping . If you haven't been to Kitty Hawk, a few things about this particular location to be aware of: 1. there is a steep drop off when entering the ocean and the waves can be quite rough, 2. there are biting sand flies that are a major nuisance on the beach (at least in August when we visited); their bites are quite painful and insect repellant was not very helpful, 3. the property is located on a moderate speed highway with very narrow shoulders and no sidewalks, so it is not an ideal place for biking or taking walks (other than on the beach), 4. there are a ton of dragon flies just off the deck, but be thankful because they eat mosquitoes! There are lots of activities in the area that are within a close drive (15-20 minutes) including kayaking and other sea sports. In summary, this is a nice pet-friendly beach house, great for families vacationing in OBX.

We loved our stay at the Mermaid!!!! Couldn't have asked for a better location to enjoy every second of a beach vacation. The huge deck makes for AMAZING ocean watching all times of day. With kids, it was so nice being able to pop back and forth from the beach to the house so easily. And the private entrance made our portion of the beach completely secluded all day long! Talk about an easy way to social distance :). The swing underneath the deck was also a huge hit for all ages :). And Terry was so helpful with everything. A perfect host!!

We had a fantastic family vacation at Mermaid!! The house is beautiful! It's beautifully decorated! The home is fully furnished with anything you could possibly need. The kitchen has everything that you could ever need, wonderful cookwear! The ocean views are gorgeous from the kitchen, dining area, living room and master bedroom. The home is very spacious and super CLEAN! We were very comfortable and happy during the entire stay! The deck is huge, with plenty of seating with spectacular views! The home owner is super nice, friendly, and caring! There is only one word for our vacation, FANTASTIC! We can't wait to go back to Mermaid! Highly recommend!!!!
