About this apartment rental
The newly renovated residence by Palazzo Pizzo is located in an over 200 year old, beautifully restored palazzo in the charming historic center of Pizzo in Calabria, Southern Italy, at the 'Costa degli Dei', coast of Gods (only 25 km from Lamezia airport). Enjoy the peaceful location at the sea while at the same time the bustling Piazza della Repubblica of the old town center of Pizzo with its restaurants, bars and ice cream parlors and shops is just a 2 minutes walk away! You can reach the beach at Pizzo Marina in just 10-15 minutes walk. (It takes longer on the way back to walk uphill. Alternatively, you can order an Ape-taxi during summer). More beaches and attractions can be reached by car.
From a small piazzetta, a separate entrance of the palazzo, with a stone staircase leads 20 steps down to a spectacular vaulted cellar which is located on a rock, about 50 meters above sea level. In the last centuries this space (app 70 sqm) was used as warehouse to store olive oil and soap. The cellar has been restored with special techniques of insulation. The natural stone walls and ceilings are well preserved. The apartment is best suitable for 2 persons. The one bedroom is separated by a paravent from the living area. The bed is antique and a queen size (170cm x 195cm). The newly installed bathroom features a rain shower under a vaulted ceiling with sea view. From the living and dining area with a modern kitchenette you have access to a private garden terrace on top of the cliff. All windows, a small balcony and the terrace are facing the sea. You can enjoy breathtaking 180 degree sea and sunset views over the Bay of Santa Eufemia (or Gulf of Lamezia). On clear days you can spot the active volcano Stromboli, which is part of the Aeolian islands of Sicily in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In spring, you might also see dolphins in the bay.
You can spend days on the private garden terrace of the residence watching fisher boats passing by and beautiful sunsets, or explore Calabrian history and beautiful landscapes in diverse day trips (we will provide you with ideas).
Pizzo is the ideal stop-over location when travelling between Amalfi and Sicily. From Salerno it is just a 2 1/2 hours train ride away - or a 4 hours drive from Napoli. In about 3 hours you can reach Taormina in Sicily from Pizzo (by road and ferry). In summer ferry boats take you on an Aeolian Island day tour, including volcano Stromboli. Departure is from Vibo Marina (4 km, 5 min drive from Pizzo) or Tropea.
Pizzo (the old town) is lively all year round, although more quiet from November until Easter/April. The best time to visit Calabria is from May to October. However, April and November can be nice and mild too and swimming in the sea might be possible. It rains most in December and January. You will find snow in the mountains during winter and can ski in some areas. The hottest and busiest month is August. Avoid to travel the days around 15th of August if you can. September and October are good for porcini mushroom collecting.
The little village beach at Pizzo Marina is picturesque with its colourful umbrellas that each visitor brings. This beach, although not service, features two sweet water showers, and the bars and pizzerias are just across the street.
Other beach areas of Pizzo, Piedigrotta, Marinella or Marina can also be reached with an Ape-Taxi Service from the main piazza.
You do not need a car to stay at Palazzo Pizzo Residence.
With your booking we will provide our guidebook to Pizzo with lots of recommendations for local restaurants, day trips, museums and important phone numbers.
This apartment is not suitable for small children and people afraid of height. Extra person is 20 Euro/night for bed sheets and towels.

Wonderful Palazzo, wonderful hosts, wonderful town
The palazzo was exactly as expected, beautiful, spotless and in the perfect location in Pizzo. The hosts Susan and Angelo, as well as their on-location helpers Tonino and Carmela took care of every need we had promptly. The sweeping views from the balcony as well as the windows throughout the palazzo were magnificent. The bed was extremely comfortable. The weather was a little humid when we were there, but there was a dehumidifier, which was extremely helpful. The rental had pretty much everything you needed for a comfortable week. We did not cook except for coffee and breakfast, but it looked like it was a well equipped kitchen to make all the meals. The only thing of note was the location of the bathroom, which was around the corner from the bedroom, up some rough concrete steps. There is no railing from the bedroom to the bathroom on those stairs, for those who are not as steady on their feet, probably not the most suitable setup. Even the bathroom has a view of the sea!!!
Thank you Susan, Angelo, Tonino and Carmela, for this wonderful stay, we look forward to coming back to Pizzo, and hope to stay with you again!

Wonderful stay in a lovely apartment with stunning view from the veranda
Very stylishly decorated apartments with accentuated elements of the original old masonry, equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay at the modern level. All rooms overlook the sea from a height of about 20 meters. The most wonderful corner of the apartment is a spacious veranda with stunning sea views and the opportunity to admire the sunrises and sunsets, as well as views of the Stromboli volcano, when it appears from the haze over the sea. Great location 5 minutes walk from the Central square with lots of restaurants, cafes and shops, despite the apartment is very quiet. Good city beach within walking distance and stunning sandy and relatively deserted beach a couple of kilometers from the city center. A big plus is the garage where you can park your car, because parking in ancient cities is not easy. Not for elderly and people with disabilities because of the two-level layout and a large number of steps. We are very grateful to Susanna and Angelo for their hospitality, care and assistance in the development of a new for us living space.

We felt welcomed from the moment we pulled up. Tonino, Carmella, and her granddaughter, Greta met us upon arrival, showed us the lay of the land and welcomed us to Pizzo. Susan, the host has finely appointed the house with everything you need. She and Angelo, were always accessible. The sunsets were beautiful, the location is great...and the decor impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint apartment! We will definitely be back.

An amazing apartment
What an amazing apartment and what a wonderful warm caring and friendly host! I enjoyed a week relaxing in this lovely apartment after a busy 12 day tour of Sicily. I had been communicating with Susanne for some time before my stay in Pizzo and was really looking forward to my stay. All my expectations were met and then some. Now home on a cold 11c degree day if I close my eyes I can be back on the lovely terrace in the sunshine looking at that blue, blue sea.
The apartment is incredible in that you feel like you are suspended above the sea which is the view from all windows even the cute bathroom. The apartment has been fitted out with modern fixtures and there is everything you will need for a very enjoyable stay - the kitchen is great.
Pizzo is a lovely town which provided enough in the way of meandering streets and cafes, restaurants etc to keep me entertained for the week. The ice cream sold at the cafes in the town square is a feature of this town. I happened upon a wonderful jewellery shop called SMAK which introduces the concept of bringing art into jewellery. If you are looking for something different - this is the place.
Susanne arranged for Concetta who runs a taxi service to meet me at the station and I then arranged for her to drive me back to the airport upon my departure. She is a lovely person and although apologised for her lack of English, was quite easy to communicate with. I would like to say thank you to Susanne, Tononi and Concetta for making my stay so enjoyable and fully recommend this wonderful apartment.

Something special!!
What a beautiful property with lovely people (Susan and Angelo) managing it! My husband and I so enjoyed our 4 night stay here. We were very comfortable and everything that we needed was provided. The view out of all the windows and from the outside terrace were just amazing! We will have those views and all the memories of that special little town for years to come! Thank goodness for cell phone cameras to keep those memories with us! Thanks for a great stay!

wunderbaren Urlaub in palazzo Pizzo

Rejuvenate by the Sea
From the warm Calabrian welcome of Tonino to the amazing views from every window, this apartment exceeds any photo and is grand beyond belief.
Well appointed, the kitchen calls to your own exploration of local ingredients which the shop keepers just out side the main piazza are extremely helpful with. They are eager to share recipes & tastes.
Susanne's book of recommendations was a great place to start and we found the local waiters at L'ercole gelatorria could assist in connecting you from Ape taxis ( a must do on the narrow streets - beats any ride at Disney) and fishing. Dani at Calabria Sport Fishing provided a local experience of catching tuna in Tyranean sea.
We would highly recommend staying at the Palazzo in early October as the weather was warm, a day at the beach still possible and few crowds so a seat for gelato was always available. Though we had no car, I would recommend it if you want to explore the surrounding areas.
Grazie Susanne and Tonino for a rejuvenating week!

A true gem. Highly recommended.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at Palazzo Pizzo. The location of the apartment is perfect—easy walking distance to the main square, restaurants and marina, but very quiet and private-- it feels a world away. Unlike many vacation rentals, this apartment is actually lovelier in reality than in the photos. There are world class views from the private terrace, the kitchen and even the bathroom. Angelo was the perfect host and guide, showing us all the highlights (including the very important tips on where to park!), pointing out the best restaurants, shops and cafes. After we unloaded the luggage, Angelo hopped in the car with us and guided us through the narrowest streets we have yet seen in Italy, which while still a bit hair-raising was far better than us trying to sort it out on our own. (By the end of our stay, we had mastered the routes in and out of town—as Angelo calmly assured us we would.) Both he and Tonino went out of their way to be sure everything was just right for our stay.
Pizzo was a great introduction for us to the Calabrian coast. As Californians, we are spoiled for beautiful sandy beaches, but Pizzo and environs did not disappoint. Unfortunately, as we were there in March, the weather was not quite warm enough for us to take full advantage and we hope to come back again in early summer or fall. In the three days we spent in Pizzo, we had the best seafood ever. We highly recommend La Lampara, where Joseph and his brother Paolo prepared delicious fresh dishes, including the local pasta, fileja, with clams and mussels in a light tomato broth and a mixed seafood grill. Both speak excellent English, and were happy to guide our choices and prepare things to our taste. After visiting the Monday market in Tropea (we were told it would be pretty quiet there in the off season—if so, I’d hate to see it in summer—it was a huge market with just about everything imaginable—and filled with shoppers) we wanted to get away from the crowds so we headed to Vibo Marina for lunch. From the moment we were greeted by the maitre de Franco until the complimentary glass of sweet wine, lunch at Lapprodo was an amazing experience—highly recommended. We can easily understand why it has a Michelin star; the surprise was how warm and friendly the welcome.
