The apartment was very clean, spacious, well equipped and well located to get into the centre of Lille. Less than 15 minute walk from the main train stations serving the area, with a Metro stop directly outside, plenty of places nearby to eat and drink at. Christine, who met us and showed us around the property, was friendly and amenable, and, although there was a bit of a language barrier, we got by with our broken French and sign language!
It would be handy to note in the listing that whilst there is a bathroom and an ensuite, there is only 1 toilet (separate). Also, if anyone is claustrophobic, please be aware the lift up to the fourth floor apartment is very small (a cosy 2 people max). There is also a staircase as an alternative (pretty heavy going with luggage though!)
It was very hot at night during our stay and so we had to keep the windows open, which meant that the noise from the road below could be heard quite clearly, even though we were four floors up! Lille was quite busy with more people than usual around for the Olympics, so there was probably more noise than usual. A fan in each room would have meant we could shut the windows and also might have helped keep some mosquitoes away... Water temperature in both the shower & ensuite seemed to fluctuate a bit - luckily, due to the hot weather, we didn't mind the odd cold blast though!
Overall a great apartment that worked really well for us during our stay - would definitely stay here again : )

We traveled to Lille to visit our son who was studying at the local university. The location of this apartment was perfect. Busses to and from the university stop directly in front of the building. A metro station is across the street. There is a market at the corner. Multiple restaurants, stores, and a laundry are a short walk away.
Inside, the apartment is spacious, bright, and very quiet considering its location. The rooms without plumbing are large and have great views. The wet areas are typical for European homes in that they are small and awkward to use.
The apartment was pretty clean, but not spotless. There was trash in a bin, leftover food in the refrigerator, and half-full soap containers in the shower. That, along with some personal decorations on display always reminded us that this was somebody else's home.
A deeper cleaning along with depersonalizing of the apartment would have given it a 5-star rating.

The furnishings and supplies were very good but a simple guide with Wi-Fi
address and explanations of how to operate appliances, tv, etc would be useful and a better cleaning of the kitchen was needed. Grounds left in the coffee maker were moldy as was a lemon left in the fridge.

Very good . The apartment was spacious and well equipped. The facilities were very good but we expected to have 2 toilets given that there were 2 bathrooms.
The location was excellent and we used the underground public car on the opposite side of the street which was really convenient.
Overall a great experience.

We booked with Serge 2.5 years ago so we could be central for the Rugby World cup. He was absolutely fair in the booking process, responsive when we had questions and his property more than adequately dealt with the four of us, comfortable and spacious. The sunrise is something to behold from this apartment, highly recommended

This is a quintessentially french apartment. That was far, far better than we expected. It was much larger than expected, but warm & comfortable, and in an amazing location.
The only thing to know is the elevator is quite small, but you can always take the stairs!

Very charming, well appointed in a great location. Very comfortable and great for families. Accessible to the downtown and Musee de Beaux Arts, very central! Loved our stay!

We were so delighted with this rental. It was comfortable, roomy, very elegant, and had all the kitchen equipment and furnishings we needed for an extended stay. It was quiet yet very close to everything including the wonderful museum just across the street. The view was stunning. We enjoyed admiring the antiques and art in the unit and appreciated all the cozy spaces. Our family of four was able to spread out and do our own activities in a way that’s not possible in a similarly priced hotel so we were very glad we made this choice. The wi-fi, the heating, elevator, and hot water all worked great—even though the building is more than a century old it has all the modern conveniences. We especially loved the gorgeous round dining room and the comfy living room. Would definitely stay here again if we return to Lille. A warm thank you to our hosts!

Excellent property for space equipment and location no on site parking if your travelling by car but there is an underground secure carpark just across the road at a cost of 14euros per day

Wonderful apartment in the French style with all modern facilities at hand. It's on the 4th floor but has a very convenient and, typically for France, tiny, lift if you can't manage 102 stairs! It had everything we needed, plenty of space, very comfortable and very clean. Literally a stone's throw from the Metro and a convenient small supermarket. Lovely boulangeries, cafes and restaurants nearby too. Just a short walk into the old town makes it a great, central location. We were greeted by a relative of the owner, after a call to let her know we had arrived by Eurostar. She only spoke French, but luckily my husband was able to discuss arrangements as his French is fairly good. I've dropped a star on location and neighbourhood. This is purely due to the fact that the apartment is located at the end of the main street from the town, which many students use late at night on their way home after a night out (there are loads of students in Lille). They do a lot of shouting and singing and are very loud .. which is not good at 2am. So if you are a light sleeper I would recommend earplugs! We live 2 miles from Heathrow airport so we are used to noise, but not at that time of night. Other than that we had a great time in Lille. Thanks Serge for allowing to stay in your lovely apartment.
