We've just got home after a really good stay at Casa Rosa and we can't recommend the place enough. Casa Rosa itself is set in a very quiet part of the village and we had a really peaceful, quiet atmosphere. The property has everything you need to unwind and relax and several outdoor spaces to escape from, or enjoy the sun! The village itself is lovely and the locals are very friendly, kind and polite. We enjoyed days out in surrounding villages and towns, there are too many nice ones to name individually but we particularly enjoyed Scanno, Pacentro and Sulmona.Abruzzo really is a beautiful region and we will definitely return to this property. Thanks again Joanna and family you are great hosts!

We had a wonderful time at Casa Rosa. It was easy to check in, clean and really beautiful. Joanna was great at communication and responsive to needs. She had a lot of great suggestions! She suggested the artichoke festival in Prezza and it was a highlight of our trip!

Casa Rosa exceeded our expectations. The inside is cosy and comfortable, with a well equipped kitchen and a comfortable bed. We enjoyed spending time in each of the three outdoor areas. The roof terrace was perfect for eating in the evening as the sun went down over the valley. The garden area was a perfect space for daily yoga.
Parking was good and easily accessible. Casa Rosa provided an ideal base for walking from the door and in the local area. It was easy to drive to Sulmona and explore the town and enjoy its cafes, history and market.
Communication from Joanna was exemplary being detailed, timely and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

Off the main tourist beat in a quiet little village. Easy access to many wonderful places but only if you have a car. The village itself is very quiet with just a few facilities - bar, small food store, pharmacy - but only a 15min drive to the large town of Sulmona which has all you need and a great market on Wednesday and Saturdays.
The house is comfortable, with a couple of lovely outdoor areas for the warmer weather.
Bedrooms and bathroom are on the first floor accessible only by a narrow spiral staircase - tricky for anyone with mobility issues.

Loved the house, just wish it were a little warmer so we could have enjoyed the gorgeous outdoor space a bit more. Kitchen very well stocked with everything you need…very quiet area with stunning views. 15-30 minutes to beautiful Sulmona, Raiano and Pacentro. Hope to come back again…

Casa Rosa was incredible!! The hosts, Joanna and Dave, were so helpful and their communication with us was exceptional. I would stay at Casa Rosa again in a minute!! The property itself was in such a great location, so close to a major city like Sulmona, but very peaceful and quiet. Enjoying a glass of vino on the rooftop terrace while watching the sunset behind the mountains was a definite highlight of our trip!! Thanks Joanne and Dave!

Casa Rosa is a beautiful home. It has everything you need, with wonderful views from its roof top terrace. The town is very friendly and great location. We had a lovely 35 day stay.
Highly recommend for party of two to four.

The drives to villages such as Pacentro and Pescocostanza are spectacular, especially if you're not having to do the driving yourself! There's a nice bar in Bugnara and it's easy to get into Sulmona. The house is comfortable and has everything you need.

The property was very well equipped and comfortable. The roof terrace was lovely in the evening. Village was very quiet and gave easy access to various places to visit.
The booking process for this villa was incredibly efficient as the owner responded very promptly on all occasions and provided lots of useful information. The villa also had lots of information and maps, guide books etc which was extremely helpful.
If I have one criticism it's the shower. A shower screen or deeper shower tray would be useful.

We had a lovely stay at Casa Rosa as part of our trip round Italy. The house felt like a home away from home with everything we needed. Great swimming at Scanno Lake and at the beach, which was worth the drive. Fantastic mountain walking nearby. Nearby Sulmona was lovely and had great amenities. Local pizza restaurant serving really good and very reasonably priced food. We would definitely stay again if we cane back to the region. Thank you!

Cosy little house, perfectly situated to explore Abruzzo. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

Nicely furnished house with small private garden and terrace with good view within the village; good start point for venturing into the surrounding national parks, description is very accurate.

Casa Rosa is a lovely home in a quiet town. The location is perfect for exploring and the house is perfect for when you want to relax.

We had a lovely stay in Casa Rosa. The communication with the hosts was really nice and we would always come back and recommend this place.
A very nice start for hiking in the mountains.
Thanks for a lovely visit.

Casa Rosa proved to be a home away from home. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We made good use of the outdoor spaces for breakfast, lunch and drinks at sundown - the view was spectacular. The house was nicely furnished, comfortable bed and great warm showers. Jo had 2 of everything!! The home was perfectly located to explore the Abruzzo region. Jo’s recommendations on restaurants and info on towns and villages was invaluable. We definitely picked a good home, a beautiful village in a spectacular region.

Very peaceful cottage
Set in the lower part of an historic village, this lovely cottage has the benefit of a shaded garden, sunny patio and sun deck, ideal for the hot weather we encountered. The thick stone walls ensured that the cottage did not get to hot, though the electric fans helped for a while at night. There were few occupied neighbouring properties and we rarely saw or heard people going past on the paths around the cottage. It was peaceful even though it is only a hew hundred meters up any one of the many stepped paths to get to the village centre. The cottage is exactly as described - comfortable and cosy, well equipped though the spiral staircase was a bit of a challenge for getting luggage up and down. Car parking was easy - most of the time ours was the only car in a very large space. The most we saw was three cars there. Joanna is a superb host. She established contact well before our arrival so that we were clear about the check in arrangements and provided us with very clear instructions on how to find the car park and the cottage. We had an excellent stay.

Can't Say Enough
Casa Rosa is simply amazing! So well appointed with anything you need. So quiet and peaceful, and yet so close to Sulmona !
Cozy and comfortable, fireplace for cooler evenings, rooftop terrace with views for miles. And host, Joanna, is the absolute best!

Sunny Fall in Bugnara
We escaped the Fall in Canada to sunny Abruzzo. The property was perfectly sized for four people and we enjoyed the roof terrace and dining in the garden. Great location to explore the region and hike in the hills - also well placed for a ride to Scanno and to ride the Blockhaus (drive required); plus managed a trip to the beach. Host was a pleasure to deal with - highly recommend.

Fantastico soggiorno. La casa è completa in ogni singolo dettaglio e la posizione è ideale per raggiungere le mete più ambite (gole del sagittario, lago di San Benedetto, lago di Scanno, Sulmona ecc

Beautiful Bugnara
We had a wonderful stay in Bugnara. Cass Rosa was just like the photos. A quaint quiet little town with spectacular views from the rooftop terrace.

Fantastic week in Abruzzo
Casa Rosa was a great place to immerse ourselves into the local culture. The people of Bugnara were welcoming and very friendly to us. Bar Gino is the place to be ! Joanna’s information about the local region was such a great source of amazing things to do and places to experience. We loved our stay at Casa Rosa ! Thanks so much !!

A Bit of Heaven in Abruzzo
My family and I highly recommend Casa Rosa. Joanne is a perfect hostess - always communicative, easy to reach and thinking of her guests' convenience in advance of their arrival! Casa Rosa is the perfect getaway spot in a storybook village in one of the most beautiful and relatively undiscovered regions of Italy. The house is comfortable, light-filled and spacious, and has three outdoor levels as well as a rooftop terrace with gorgeous panoramic views of the mountains - a perfect place for an evening glass of wine! The house also has a little information center with a plethora of information and maps on the surrounding area, including nearby restaurants. The people of the village are warm and welcoming, especially at the bar in the center of town - say hello to Alberto for us if you go. He graciously gave us recommendations for places to eat in, and a map of, nearby Sulmona, a historic and scenic city. The location is close to many postcard pretty medieval hilltop villages and relatively close to the Adriatic coast - we visited Pinetto, which was an easy hour or so drive. Casa Rosa is also very close to two national parks that we visited - the Majella National Park and the Gran Sasso National Park. We also traveled to many other parts of Abruzzo which were well within striking distance. Our children loved Casa Rosa and Bugnaro, with all the little narrow alleyways and olive trees and the pets wandering around town. The word idyllic is overused but really, Casa Rosa is idyllic and we heartily recommend it for your next family vacation or romantic getaway! We hope to visit Casa Rosa again, soon! Richard and Jennifer S.

This was our fourth visit to Casa Rosa, and once again we enjoyed our holiday immensely. It is so easy to book as Jo always replies immediately, so plans can be made straight away. We feel relaxed as soon as we get to Bugnara...it is easy to park near the house and then just a short walk to the front door, and because we have been several times, it is all so very familiar! Casa Rosa is spacious, comfortable and homely, it is well equipped with everything one needs and we feel at home the minute we get there! We love the garden, which has terraces on different levels, and so there is the choice between sun and shade. There are several garden tables, just right for enjoying a drink or meal outside. The roof terrace is lovely, with spectacular views, which we never tire of.
Bugnara is only a few minutes drive to the lovely town of Sulmona, and there are also many other lovely villages and towns nearby to visit. The motorway is only about 20 minutes drive away, so it is easy to visit places of interest a little further afield...we particularly enjoy visiting ancient archeological sites, old abbeys and museums...there is always something of interest somewhere nearby to see! We absolutely love it here and hope to go again soon!
This is far more than a holiday rental, it is a home. Thank you so much Jo, Dave and Fay for letting us stay at Casa Rosa.

Experience Abruzzo
We stayed in Casa Rosa.
The whole booking process was as good as it gets and Joanna is just brilliant in responding to questions, confirming bookings and providing all the necessary information about the house and the location.
The house was perfect for the two of us, haveing everything we needed for a very comfortable stay - living spaces both inside and outside the house. The parking is very close to the house and easy to find.
Bugnara is a sleepy Italian town ( except for passegiatta time). Perfect place to meet some locals who are very friendly. Surrounding towns (including nearby Sulmona) provide plenty of dining and exploring opportunities. For us, after a day’s touring, it was always a delight to return to Casa Rosa and Bugnara. Thanks Joanna - this is a top notch holiday rental!

Beautiful Casa Rosa
Joanna was always available and quick in the answers. The house is warm, cozy, equipped with everything you need. It is located in a pedestrian area near a small square, so no parking problem and no problem of cars in case of children or animals with you. A 5-minute walk away is the central square of Bugnara with two bars and a small grocery. Beautiful panoramic view from the terrace, but also from the low floor you can see the surrounding mountains. I hope to be able to come back one day, but in the meantime I would definitely recommend it to everyone!

Great place, great part of Abruzzo.
We had a fantastic time at Casa Rosa. The house is exactly as described on the homeaway site and on the web site for Casa Rosa. Joanna is a very good host. Her communications are prompt and her information package prior to arrival is packed with everything you need. The house is clean and comfortable and very well equipped. It was always nice to return to Casa Rosa after a long day of exploring Abruzzo. Being able to enjoy the terraces or garden area prior to a great dinner made in house or heading out to one of the many local great restaurants was always a nice way to finish the day. Bugnara is ideally located for exploring the surrounding area and the region of Abruzzo. Sulmona, the nearest large city is a beautiful old feel Italian city with a twice weekly market and great restaurants. I highly recommend this house and this part of Abruzzo. Three weeks was not long enough for our stay. Looking forward to returning one day.

Superb holiday at Casa Rosa!
This was our third holiday at Casa Rosa and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house has been beautifully and sympathetically renovated, it is spacious, comfortably furnished and very well equipped with everything you might need. We love the garden, where much hard work has created terraces and planting on several different levels. There are tables and chairs on each terrace, so drinks, snacks, meals and general relaxing can be enjoyed outside in sun or shade depending on preference! I personally loved the middle level terrace, sitting in the dappled shade of the fig tree! The roof terrace is wonderful, with amazing views of mountains, fields and villages.
Casa Rosa is situated in the pretty, quaint village of Bugnara, which has bars and shops (which seem small but in fact stock a wide range of goods!), and the local people are very friendly. There are lots of lovely places nearby to visit, (and bigger shops, should one wish/need them!)and Casa Rosa provides leaflets, maps and helpful information with great suggestions for outings.
It is very easy to book a holiday at Casa Rosa, Jo responds immediately to any questions and nothing seems to be too much trouble! Thank you once again Jo, Dave and Fay, for letting us stay in your lovely home, we had a wonderful, relaxing holiday.

Lovely house, picturesque location, something for everyone
Our stay at Casa Rosa was superb. The house is in a great location with lots do within easy reach.
Jo and her family have thought of everything when furnishing their property and you want for nothing whilst there. The outside spaces are tranquil and are ideal whether having a coffee in the morning or a glass of wine on the terrace in the evening.
Compared to some of the properties we have stayed whilst on holiday in Italy they do not compare

Gorgeous cottage!
We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Rosa. Jo and Dave, the owners were so helpful, the whole experience was great, wish all other holiday owners were as good as these two. We loved the house, the garden and especially the roof terrace, this place really has it all, we will be back very soon. Thank you again for all your help.

Fantastic house in a beautiful part of Italy
We had a fantastic holiday at Casa Rosa. The house was perfect, Jo and Dave have thought of everything! The roof terrace was our favourite bit, especially as we had the most fantastic weather, sunbathing in March, whatever next. Abruzzo is a wonderful part of Italy, so unspoilt, and so many different places to explore. We love walking and Casa Rosa is just perfect for us. We will be back later in the year!

Great property in a beautiful quiet location
We had a fantastic stay at Casa Rosa, the house is lovely and the local scenery has to be seen to be believed. The house is comfortable and well kitted out with everything you need and the owners keep the cupboards well stocked so you replace what you use which is a nice touch. The roof terrace is a lovely sun trap and a great place to eat breakfast and admire the view. Joanna and David sent us very clear directions and loads of really useful info before our trip, nothing was too much trouble.

Sublime and comfortable experience
Comfortable clean well appointed delightful ambiance. Good written info and the owner was so very helpful when any queries were posed!
We loved it and want to both recommend it to our friends as well as come back next year!
Great location for a special Italian experience

A wonderful holiday at Casa Rosa!
This was our second visit to Casa Rosa, and we had another superb holiday. As before, Jo sent all the details well in advance, so we had all the information that we needed. It really does make such a difference to have friendly contact with owners, and Jo makes everything so easy, so that we feel like welcome guests in her house. Casa Rosa is lovely...it is spacious, comfortable and homely, and it is lovely to find drinks etc in the fridge on arrival; it is such a good and simple system to leave similar things for the next guests! Not only is the house lovely but the garden is delightful too ( the result of much hard work I imagine!) with seating areas on the different levels, in sun and shade. The roof terrace is superb with magnificent views of the mountains.
Bugnara is a sweet village, with quaint, narrow, streets (and quite a lot of steps!), the shops seem small but actually stock a great range of goods (including really lovely cheeses!), and we frequently visited the bar! It was great this year to have easy access Wifi in the house and garden...thank you for this!
We visited some favourite places from previous holidays, e.g. the magnificent Alba Fucens, and the wonderful frescoes at Bominaco; we enjoyed pottering round Sulmona again, the museums are really interesting, and we bought some lovely fruit from the market. We also visited new places, the beautiful San Clemente in Casauria, for example, and the castle at Celano, a splendid, imposing building, housing a small, but interesting museum.
There are so many lovely places to visit, and Bugnara is well-positioned, convenient for the motorway but far enough not to be disturbed by traffic noise. It is a really peaceful place, and we so enjoyed coming back to Casa Rosa after a day out to enjoy the comfort and tranquillity.
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday...thank you so much Jo, Dave and Fay for letting us share your home.

Sunshine and peace in Bugnara...plus much more!
We spent a wonderful week in Bugnara. We stayed at Joanna's lovely Casa Rosa in mid August, when Italians celebrate Ferragosto. Joanna is an amazing host, and her house a little gem with a very nice and cozy garden. She constantly kept in touch and gave us every bit of information. Casa Rosa was spotless and very well equipped. We always had breakfast in the shade of the garden under a wonderful blue sky. At night we found some relief from the heat of those August days at Gino's. A deserved reward after those hiking tours in the gorgeous Maiella Park. Also, Bugnara is a quaint small village close to the more famous Sulmona and three national parks. People over there are very friendly and have a sincere warmth, rare to find in the traditional tourist destinations. We found everything we needed. We will be definitely coming back! Thanks Joanna. Marion, Mauro, and the girls

Perfect Mountain Village House but with Limited Local Facilities.
We had a very relaxing holiday at Casa Rosa. The booking process with the Mundy's was very straightforward and we were made to feel welcome even before we had arrived. We received personalised directions with photos prior to our holiday which facilitated our arrival.
The house was perfect for the two of us but we did find the spiral staircase a little difficult for the first few days. The small shower room was adequate for us but there was no sound proofing and all could be heard upstairs and downstairs.
The house was clean, it was great to have the facility to open the doors and windows on all sides and let the fresh air in. The roof terrace and garden were relatively private for the first week until the neighbours to the rear moved in and sat on their terrace overlooking the house and gardens.
The rubbish was not collected and the waste disposal facilities to the rear of the town hall are very dangerous as they are on a steep gravelled slope.
The location of the house was good, 20 minutes from the Rome - Pescara motorway and 15 minutes by car to Sulmona the nearest town with shops and places of interest.
There is a minimarket in Bugnara but it is very expensive with many out of date products and the owner with his son, even though helpful, lack some of the basic hygienic standards.
The chemist was open and helpful.
The takeaway pizza has been closed since March and not likely to open anytime soon.
Ginos bar was open but not what we expected. The seating was limited and uncomfortable (6 Tall stools with two large barrels at tables). There was no food or snacks only croissants in the morning. The clientele was all male most of which were builders working in nearby properties.
There seemed to be no fixed prices and the draught coke totally flat.
The two restaurants mentioned were a good 20 minutes walk each way (Uphill on the way back) but totally empty and with no atmosphere.
So basically the village although picturesque did not have any facilities.
Sulmona (20 minute drive) on the other hand had a great atmosphere, architecture, museums, bars, restaurants and facilities (we were able to obtain all the groceries we needed).
Its just a shame that we had to drive everywhere and that there was nothing in Bugnara.
Scanno was amazing (Take a swimming costume). The roman ruins at Alba Fucens worth a visit (Take a Picnic). Forget Aquila its a building site and all the roads to the centre are closed off.
The confetti factory/museum is worth a visit

Casa Rosa did not disappoint. Conveniently situated near the amenities of the beautiful little village of Bugnara, it was the ideal base for a fantastic, relaxing holiday in Italy. The Mundy's provided everything we needed. A comfortable home from home, store cupboard basics and a fridge with cold beer & wine - most welcome to the weary traveller arriving in the midday sun! The kitchen was well equipped, the bedrooms clean and comfortable and the bathroom stocked with products. The gardens were superb with different areas offering sun & shade throughout the day. We loved the roof terrace. By day baking hot or on occasion ideal for storm watching over the mountains. At night the starry sky was a delight.
We can't fault this perfect Italian idyll.

Comfortable house in beautiful area
The house was great: clean, everything that we needed, comfortable bed, warm, good wifi, and fantastic views from roof terrace. The village is very Italian (which we love) and friendly but Sulmona is close by if you need more choice of provisions or restaurants. The house is ideally situated c 2hrs from Rome airport and in the midst of the most amazing scenery. We had absolutely glorious weather in mid April which complemented the snow-covered mountains and spring flowers. Long walks in the mountains and down valleys - barely seeing anyone - no bears or wolves but did see foxes and deer and beautiful flowers - fantastic! The owner also provided first-class customer service before, during and after the stay. Highly recommended if you want to see real natural Italy away from the crowds and tourist traps.
