Positive aspects:
The host was extremely responsive and easy to communicate with.
A charming location, albeit quite secluded. One should be prepared to drive 25-30 minutes to get groceries.
Sufficient bedrooms for a family of 5 (or even 6 if children share a bed) and two bathrooms with showers.
Great to have a washer/dryer.
Some more critical aspects:
This converted barn has lots of aesthetic charm, but has some limitations in terms of comfort and proximity to towns and other attractions, making it well-suited for those wishing to escape and be alone. The barn itself retains a good deal of its origins. Consequently, it has not yet been converted with a priority on comfort and lighting/airiness. The downstairs bedroom is nice, but rather dark as it faces the woodland. The upstairs bedrooms are well-equipped. However, there is no hallway and there is an old (closed) trapdoor down to where the kitchen is situated, thus limiting "privacy" and the ability to have discussions downstairs if someone is sleeping upstairs. Some of the internal doors did not properly close (there seems to be some humidity that likely affects the doors). The dock is lovely, but is not immediately outside the house, making it impractical to have meals near it without carrying everything down from the barn to the dock. The back deck of the barn was also missing a table at which a family could eat. Thus, the only practical table was inside, which was a pity.

Way out there get away, the barn is rustic and small, the dockside is beautiful, though not so much for swimming, at least at low tide

The location is lovely and the accommodations were nice. We had a wonderful time. The backyard was so beautiful and peaceful, the ocean was wonderful and we did lots of local things (fair, art show) and we all had a great time.
The listing was not entirely accurate, however. The listing said there was an oven, but there was only burners, a toaster over, and a back yard grill. Also, it was listed as a 3 bedroom, but there were only two bedrooms with a third area with beds that you had to walk through to get to a bedroom, so essentially no privacy.

The Barn is clean, cosy and private. There is plenty of separate rooms and areas inside and out to make it comfortable for 4 adults. The area by the water is great, we went down every day for a beer or two before dinner. The area behind the house and the BBQ are private - but does get buggy in the evening.
Can’t wait to go back next year!

Our impression of the barn was above expectations! Great location and neighborhood. Super clean and cozy. We will definitely recommend it to our friends.

The views were not what we had expected. You need to be outside the cottage to see the water; or make an effort to peer out through the windows. The proximity to the water from the Barn is not great.. and you do have to cross the street+walk down a path. If you want to hear the waves or smell the ocean from home, this is not the place. Backyard is woodsy +pretty. Obvious owner loves property; but next time, I will ask more questions..I was really disappointed.

We had such an amazing stay here. Everything was perfect. Very romantic, quiet, and peaceful. Candy was a superb host! We enjoyed this area of Maine, did some sightseeing, golfing, and relaxing. The waterfront seating and fires at night were unforgettable. Meteor shower was at its peak when we were here and that was magical to say the least!
Will will recommend to friends and are looking forward to returning!

This is a great little cabin with comfy beds, a wood burning stove for heat. It is not a high end home with the amenities of life. But if you are looking to downshift and get away from it all enjoy the coast of Maine then this is a great little place to do it!

You will be impressed with the location, and the way the barn at first glance is charming.
But you are in a converted barn, with very uneven wooden floors and beams on the staircase that require you to duck.
The two bedrooms upstairs have no bathroom, so you have to navigate your way to the ground floor bathrooms.
The electrical system is confusing, even with written instructions, it took awhile to learn the system especially when a circuit breaker tripped when a heater was turned on.
With respect to the owners , and to fellow travelers I would not recommend this place to an elderly couple, but to a family with an adventurous spirit seeking a great location to hang out, buy lobsters, rent kayaks, go for walks, and enjoy compete serenity.

Our family loved our visit to the barn. It was just the right size for the four of us. The children loved the upstairs rooms, and our younger son got a kick out of the ladder. The proximity to the water was perfect, but we did have to travel quite a ways to get to a store or restaurant. Candy was very helpful sharing information about local places to go and things to do. We had a wonderful family trip!

Candy's place is a gem. The barn is located on a quiet road with views over the St. George River. Beautiful morning light in August. The barn is very clean, comfortable, has everything you need yet still retains its rustic charm. Candy was easy to contact and made the experience a great one. Highly recommended.

"The Barn," as the owner names it, is as charming inside as it looks from the outside. Cozy for friendly guests. The owner has a care for detail and is responsive to guest requests. The barn is comfortable for four adults. It has a wide view of the bay and shore, which is about a 100 yards across a clear grass field from the front door. The rental includes a lovely sitting area and fire-pit just above the dock. We would stay there again.
