About this cabin rental
Mowbarton Shepherd's Hut provides beautifully compact living accommodation for two in a delightful setting with some wonderful views. The Hut itself is built on traditional lines but with a luxury finish cleverly designed by Somerset craftsmen to combine complete 21st century comfort with the nostalgia of a rural idyll. There's seating and a table for four which cunningly converts into a cosy double bed, 'the most comfortable we've ever slept in' according to one set of guests! The Hut is fully double-glazed and insulated, and stays wonderfully warm thanks to an efficient little log-burning stove. A two-ringed hob, sink and small fridge complete the living area, and a proper loo, hand basin and ultra-modern shower cubicle complete the picture: glamping in the truest sense of the word...
The Shepherd’s Hut is set on a site of almost two acres which includes a large sloping wildlife meadow, a couple of wide expanses of grass, recently planted with a selection of native trees and shrubs. Tucked away right behind the Hut is the former farmyard which provides a secure parking area and is also the site of the vineyard shed, home to the tractor and other wine-growing equipment. Apart from the odd bustle at certain times of the season, as the tractor goes in or out (just up the lane to our own Mowbarton Estate vineyard), all the activity on this secluded site is from wildlife: there's a badger's sett on the boundary, plenty of rabbit warrens and masses of birds. Buzzards, sparrowhawks, woodpeckers, owls and goldfinches are always around, and in the spring we often hear a cuckoo. Weasels have also been spotted - and even a kingfisher!
Because of all the wildlife - and often livestock in neighbouring fields - we don’t allow pets at Mowbarton. Sorry!
As well as being the ideal getaway from everyday life, Mowbarton Shepherd's Hut is a perfect choice for birthday and anniversary weekends and for honeymoons. If you're getting married in Somerset, where better to spend your first night (or more) of married bliss? Wedding parties have also booked Mowbarton Barn, just across the lane, for friends and family before the big day. It's completely separate, in its own walled garden, but also rather handy!
And what about empty-nesters? Start your own adventurous gap year with a couple of nights in the Shepherd's Hut... Cosy and snug in winter, cool and comfortable in the summer - this is a Hut for all seasons!

Blissful stay in a gorgeous shepherd's hut. We were minding our two small gra ndchildren, during the day they loved the grounds for safe hide and seek. Of an evening it was so peaceful and cosy.

First time we stayed in a shepards hut. Very clean and comfortable. Ideal for romantic stays for two. We celebrated our 10 wedding anniversary and we will gladly come back for another stay in the future. Thank you Dorothy for your kind loan of a fan. It came in very handy at nighttime. Also thank you for your bread, cheese and butter and also the Scumpy !

Delightfully different.
A fantastic quirky but cosy place to stay. Set in beautiful quiet. countryside, it’s the perfect place to get away from it all. A warm welcome awaits as well as a welcome pack of locally sourced produce ( butter, cheese, milk,. cider etc). Would highly recommend to anyone wanting something a little out of the ordinary.

Covid Ruined our holiday
Sadly due to the tier restrictions being change the actual night before(thanks Boris) we were mot able to go. Based on our communication with Dorthy I’d write her a 5 star review any day. Gave us a refund literally the night before which must have been hard on the business. This was much appreciated. Will be looking to book you up in the Summer for sure.

I cant rate our stay highly enough. A lovely little Shepherds Hut with everything you need for a comfortable get away from it all visit. Our host Dorothy was very friendly and we were suprised to open the door to the hut on arrival to locally made Cider, mini loaves, cheese and chutney and also milk and butter. Delicious! As we were only there for 2 nights we made the most of our stay. We walked to Roger Wilkins Farmhouse and sampled his Ciders whilst making up our minds on which one to buy. We also bought Cheese, pickled eggs and Passion fruit curd from there. A lovely chatty man with lots of stories to tell of his years making cider and his famous visitors! We visited Glastonbury and Wells in the same afternoon for a wander around. We ate at The New Inn in Wedmore. A homely local kind of pub with lovely food. Before heading home to Oxford, we did a little ( 7 min ) detour to Burnham on Sea. A lovely sandy beach. All in all we had a lovely break and would definitely recommend Mowbarton Shepherds Hut. Thankyou to Dorothy once again :)

Perfect and peaceful
This was our 2nd visit to Dorothy's Shepherd's Hut in 6 months – it was amazing the first time, and the 2nd visit didn't disappoint.
Dorothy is professional, friendly and organised, and the local goodies (fresh bread, chutney, cheese, cider and fresh flowers) are so thoughtful.
You only have to flick through the visitors' book to realise it is a hit and people return.
The hut feels big and spacious, is cosy and super comfortable (the big bed with lovely sheets is divine), and the space is completely private and so peaceful. We saw numerous bunnies as well as a hungry woodpecker, just lovely. Breakfast outside is a must.
We have a soft spot for Wells, so getting there is super easy and fun to go on market day. I can certainly recommend the Bishop's Palace Gardens – divine on a sunny day in September!
This really is the perfect peaceful retreat. We will certainly be looking forward to booking visit number 3.

Perfect break and relaxing couple of days!
The Hut is set in a perfect area surrounded by wildlife and little else making it a perfectly peaceful and relaxing retreat. Wedmore, Cheddar and Wells are all within a quick drive away making it easy to pop to the shops. The Hut was immaculate and had everything needed, the Hut has been cleverly designed so although compact, everything had a its space and never felt small. The 4 seater table turns into a large and very comfy double bed, and the shower and toilet area is modern and and again well thought out. Very rarely do you get the balance of modern comfy living and remote peaceful setting wrapped up in one little Hut. Kitchen was well stocked and BBQ and equipment is all provided... Was left a welcome pack of cider and cheese which set the the tone for the for the great couple of days we had.. Owners clearly take great pride in what they do and it shows!

Beautiful getaway
We stayed in the shepherd's hut at Mowbarton Barns for 2 nights in July and loved it. The hut is beautiful furnished and comes fully equipped with everything you need. There were some really lovely touches from the owner, Dorothy: sweet peas on the table, everything to make up some cheese and pickle sandwiches, milk and some local cider in the fridge. There is lots to do locally. We really enjoyed cycling the Strawberry line to Clevedon (sustrans route 26). The local village shop, Trug Flowers and The Swan in Wedmore are also recommended.
If you fancy getting away from it all to a beautiful part of the country, this is a perfect choice.

Cozy, Clean, Comfortable!
The Shepherds hut is in a great location and is a good base to get out and about in Somerset. Dorothy left a lovely little welcome pack of traditional Cider, Cheese and Chutney along with home made bread and the hut caters for your every need and although compact is very tastefully designed and cleverly utilised. We visited the Cider farm close by and spent a lovely day in Cheddar Gorge. We had a lovely meal in Table Eight Indian restaurant in Wedmore which is a short taxi ride away or drive depending on if you are drinking or not! Please order any taxi's in advance as they are one man bands and none were available apart from Lou's Taxi. I would definitely recommend the property to family and friends looking for a quiet, tranquil retreat away from the hustle and bustle.

Fantastic weekend!
My girlfriend and I stayed at Mowbarton's Shepherd's Hut in mid May this year. The hut is located in picturesque surroundings a short drive from the M5. The hut is compact but beautifully turned out. I particularly liked the fold down bed and wood burner. Dorothy the owner provides a pack with useful information about the local area and attractions. We had dinner in two different pubs in Wedmore, the local village a short drive away. Both meals were excellent. I would defiantly recommend the Sheperd's Hut as a weekend away.

What a beautiful place
This shepherds hut is simply perfect for a complete switch off. It has everything you need and it's incredible how every little detail has been thought of and works in such a small space. It's also spotlessly clean. We were lucky with perfect sunny weather so really got to utilise the outside area with sun loungers a barbecue and chimnea. The view over the Somerset levels is to die for and the only sounds you can here are birds and the badgers at night !It's only 30 minutes walk into Wedmore which is a stunning little village and just 10 minutes walk to Rogers cider farm which is fab ! We are already trying to work out when we can return for another long weekend. Loved it and could not think of a bad thing to say.

Perfect for a short break
The Shepherd's Hut was incredibly comfortable and well thought out. Felt very welcoming on arrival; clean with a thoughtful welcome hamper provided, and plenty of wood for the fire! Had all the facilities we needed on our stay. It is in a great location for visiting the best of Somerset, and a perfect retreat for couples. Hope to visit again!

Perfectly peaceful paradise
A well-located and thought-out retreat. It really has been finished to a very high standard, is clean and cosy...you will not be cold!
The friendly owner really has thought about everything.
A great location, only 15 mins to Wells, but with all the peace and quiet of the countryside with truly stunning views.
The local village is very impressive, and the local cider barn is an experience not to be missed.
The big bed is very comfortable, and great fun to put up and down!
If you want an original escape, but with a bit of luxury too, do not hesitate to book this, you really won't be disappointed.

A wonderful trip!
The Shepherds Hut was a fantastic place to stay with everything you could ever need inside! The owner, Dorothy, was very hospitable and provided us with light refreshments on arrival. I cannot recommend the hut enough, it was a lovely trip away and I will definitely be returning!

Romantic, quiet, rural hideaway
Beautifully decorated inside, with charming fittings, this cute countryside retreat had everything we needed for the weekend. We took enough food for our time there, some books and a guitar and didn't need to touch a screen or car save for visiting Glastonbury. You can walk to Westhay NNR where you might even see otters, just make sure to pack a bag as the round trip may take 3-4 hours if you want to visit all the hides. Thoroughly recommend, even in Winter when you can still enjoy the sunset view and get cosy next to the wood burner. Make sure you visit Roger's Cider Barn!

Cosy shepherd's hut in scenic Somerset.
A well laid out and thought through space provides everything one needs for a cosy stay away.
The en-suite shower and toilet are a real asset on a cold day and the lovely log burner kept things warm for us.
The clever drop down platform bed is easy to manage and gives up lots of space when stowed and makes it a great to sit in. Lying in is even better!
The location was ideal for our cycling trips across the levels and we ate well at a wide range of pubs close by.
The owners were lovely and discreet, leaving us some treats at the start of the holiday and otherwise leaving us alone to enjoy the time together.
This was our second trip to Wedmore and not our last.
