Highly recommend!! Maartan is a fantastic host and the mill is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The connection with Mondrian was amazing and the whole village was outstanding. Wonderful stay!!

How amazing to stay in a real working windmill! The mill itself is cozy and comfortable inside. Two toilet rooms (one on first floor, one on second) and one bathroom with shower/tub and two sinks. The outdoor space is so lovely- gorgeous view, goats and sheep nearby, beautiful canals. This is the mill Mondrian painted- how special! See one of the paintings in the Rijkmuseum when you visit. Lovely cycle into town. The kitchen doesn’t have space for an oven (which was totally ok, just didn’t plan for it), and we still easily cooked some nice meals. Dishwasher was a plus! Washer dryer combo worked perfectly. Our three boys had so much fun in the outdoor space. We were so lucky to have Maarten’s lovely daughter come show us how the mill works. Robert (who cares for the goats next door) is the kindest person in the Netherlands and let our kiddos help him with the goats one evening. We’ll remember our stay always!

We only were able to stay for a single evening, but it was an experience we will not forget. The place is beautiful and how often do you get to stay in a windmill? Maarteen is incredibly helpful and was a welcoming host. We are incredibly thankful to have had the opportunity to visit this unique accommodation.

Super cool to stay in a windmill and we enjoyed the town of Abcoude very much. Maarten was a great host.

We spent a wonderful weekend at the windmill and will for sure come back in summer time.

This was a fantastic Dutch experience. Great location to bike and Abcoude was fun to explore. We recommend Ollie's and Acqua Farina. We rented a car so we could visit other areas and go into town for groceries. The train station was very convenient. Staying in a windmill like everyone else mentions...truly a unique experience. Our host was very responsive and easy to communicate with.

My family and I (two tween boys) had a wonderful few days in Abcoude in the windmill. The pictures are true to life so we felt we already knew the place when we arrived. Maarten was wonderful to deal with it was a huge bonus for him to have bikes available for us to use. We went on bike rides into town every day! We would highly recommend the windmill for a few days outside of Amsterdam.

This is truly magical experience. Only about 25 minutes from Amsterdam and you are staying in a beautiful windmill in a serene location. Marteen the host was kind and responsive. An experience you have never had. You do need to be comfortable climbing very steep stairs. The goats and sheep are very cute. Great place for a family to chill and reconnect. Five of us fit great. The beds were super comfortable. If you want a unique Dutch experience this is it.

The windmill and Abcoude were absolutely what we were looking for in our stay in the Netherlands. The windmill was 100% as advertised, and I agree with Maarten that you should not over plan your stay because Abcoude and the countryside around the windmill offer so very much to do and explore. We especially liked Anna Haen and Jasmyn (we had amazing meals at both). The people were incredibly friendly, and the town itself was both quaint and welcoming. For a good morning coffee and delicious breakfast don’t forget to go to Ollies the American pancakes were especially delicious (served with real maple syrup!).
I can’t say enough, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come back!

If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a windmill surrounded by farm fields with sheep/goats/cows and more this is the place!
Close to a wonderful town with great pre made food from gourmet type shops and restaurants, so eat out or bring food back and watch sunset at the windmill at the outdoor table as we did.
Thatched roof, well appointed and cozy inside - we will hopefully be back!

My family and I loved this property! Such a charming town and unique way of experiencing Amsterdam. Peaceful surroundings and the windmill had everything you could need to be comfortable. Maarten was very responsive during our stay, even helping us get a doctor’s appointment in town. We traveled to four countries during our European vacation and our family all agree that this was our favorite part.

It was a nice visit and the host was very accommodating with any questions or needs. The windmill has everything you need for your stay.

The Windmill was a fantastic and unique stay. After a few days in Paris our family loved coming to the calmness of the wide open country and the windmill was a very cool experience. Maarten was always available to answer any questions and kept a phenomenal house.

This is so perfect. Uber to station for 5 euro and they all turned up. Abcoude is just a lovely town and from the station it’s about 22 min to Amsterdam central. The accommodation is just perfect and we spent a day just lazing around and a walk into town. It just perfect and communicates with Martian we’re smooth and trouble free
Thanks

This place is incredible. I thought I'd enjoy my stay, and it was even better than I had anticipated. The host is amazing. The wind mill is mind-blowing. It's so clean and charming. The location is superb. It's quiet and remote, but also very close to the small town where you can buy groceries or go to restaurants. The little town is like something out of a movie. I travelled with my wife and 2 teen daughters, and we went onto Bruges and Paris. The Wind Mill was by far the highlight of our trip. And the host is just the greatest. It was magical all around!

An amazing place , the links with Piet Mondrian were very powerful. The river is beautiful and Abcoude was a lovely little town with good restaurants. Very easy access to Amsterdam.
We loved it

What an incredible place! Gorgeous setting just outside the charming town of Abcoude. The windmill is a real experience, both cosy and cute with all the kit you might need for your holiday while also housing the magnificent mechanism of the windmill. The top bedroom is massive right up in the roof, which you access up ladder stairs and trap door through the floor, very fun! The kids absolutely loved it too. Beds are all super comfortable and we slept really well. It was a bit too windy to go far on the bikes but in better weather they would be really handy for getting into town quickly. Maarten is really helpful and responsive.

Unique & Beautiful
We really enjoyed the unique nature of this property. It's location out in the country was amazing. An easy 10 minute walk to town with full amenities. The house it's self was perfect. So cute and we loved seeing goats and sheep right out the window. They even had a bottle of wine in the fridge for us upon arrival. Definitely recommend!

Staying at the windmill was an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience for us. We loved it! The windmill itself is charming and well equipped, and the beds were very comfortable. Communication with Maarten was very easy, and he spent several hours our last day running the windmill and showing us how it operates. Very interesting!
Other highlights during our stay were the following:
• Goats and sheep next door (Robert, the caretaker of the goats, was so kind and welcoming)
• Riding bikes into town (also very charming)
• Canoeing down the river

Perfect mini break
This was our second time staying at the windmill, we took 2 friends along with us this time and once again had a magical time. Maarten was kind enough to have the mill working when we arrived and did the grand tour before leaving us to settle in and enjoy.
Abcoude is such a lovely village either a 25 minute walk away or a 5 minute Uber ride. Abcoude station is around 20 mins walk too.
The food in the Eendracht pub was Incredible we highly recommend the ribs (we went twice in 5 days).
We also visited Amsterdam in and went for brunch in the Smallest house in Amsterdam and the couple who own it were lovely.
We had the best time despite some stormy weather and will be back again for sure...maybe in summer next time :)

Once in a life time experience
We really don't have any words that can describe our experience staying in the windmill and right outside of Abcoude. As a family of five (kids 7y, 11y, 15y) there was no better place we could have stayed. We will forever remember this stay. The windmill is a three story fairy-tail. The ground level you will find a full kitchen, living room and toilet. The mid-level you will find a bathroom , two bedrooms. The third floor is the master suit, which takes up the full floor. Coming from San Diego, Ca, the who experience felt like we went back in time. The setting of the windmill is incredible. The pictures just don't do it justice. Just like every review before us, Maarten is an incredible host and helped us get situated. He explained the windmill and the history, provided us a list of things to do - cheese farm, castle tour, eats in Abcoude, and where to park when traveling into Amsterdam (Amsterdam is about a :30-min trip if you drive, park and take the rail in) . He made everything so easy. We were so grateful and only wish we had more time. Thank you Marteen for everything...

Heavenly
I honestly don’t think words have been invented yet to perfectly describe the beautiful experience of staying in such an unusual and outstanding property.
It begins with Maarten..how kind and accomodating he is. He showed us how the windmill works. Yikes!! What a workout! The windmill is even better in person..nobody cared about the steep stair cases. All of the bedrooms were so lovely we took turns each night staying in each. the living space is cozy. The kitchen...albeit small ...is wonderfully equipped...and the neighbors!!!!!!! The goats, the cows, the donkey...We made friends with the goat keeper, Robert. Very excited about that as he is very serious about the rare breed he tends.
The windmill is very easy to reach driving from Schipol. Amsterdam Centrum is a quick 20 minute train ride away or 45 minutes by bicycle. Yet you are embedded in the most spectacular countryside.
The town Abcoude is dripping with Dutch charm...wonderful shops and restaurants.
I simply cannot recommend this property more highly. I cannot say it is a once in a lifetime experience as I intend to return sooner rather than later.
Thank you so much, Maarten. Xxoo

Loved our time here! Maarten was so accommodating answering questions when we had travel issues. Our big mistake was not allowing enough time here to soak up the experience even more. This was our own fault for our packed itinerary.

What dreams are made of...
When I saw that we could stay in an authentic and historic windmill I booked our entire trip around this experience. It did not disappoint!! Such a beautiful place and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. Wish we had more time to explore.

Once in a lifetime !!
How many people get to stay in a real windmill ! This place was amazing. There were 6 of us and our adult children enjoyed this setting beyond our imagination. There were goats and sheep in a picturesque setting that could be a painting. Maarten was very responsive and it was very nice to relax here after a hard day of touring. Abcoude is beautiful little town as well.

Incredible place, unforgettable "Dutch" experience
OMG, this is the most unique place we have ever stayed! You cannot find anything better than this in Holland! Beds are very comfortable, the house is very tastefully decorated, kitchen and dining room have everything needed to prepare meals and serve them in a gorgeous setting (be it outside or inside the mill). The view from the mill is wonderful and waking up to the sounds of chirping birds adds even more to the experience. They have books, games for the children, videos and everything to make the stay effortless in any weather.
Kids loved bicycling into town to get ice cream. The highlight of our stay was running of the mill! Maarten let my husband help him with the sails and explained everything about the mechanics of the operation. We were also lucky to meet the neighbors Robert and Monica, who own goats next door. Maarten owns sheep (there were two newborn baby sheep when we visited!) and kids had a great time petting and feeding them. We used Maarten's advice to visit neighboring towns (that I've never heard of before the trip) and they were picture pretty and untouristy.
Maarten, thank you very much for your hospitality and making our stay truly unforgettable! We absolutely loved every minute of it!

FANTASTIC - HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP!
I can't recommend this place enough! The interior is incredible, and offers so much room - way more than we expected. The exterior speaks for itself - how cool it is to stay in a working windmill! The hosts were extraordinarily kind - they even gave my little girls Dutch souvenirs. Location was great - uber picked us up and dropped us off in a timely manner. Short walk or bike ride into Abcoude. We spent two weeks traveling through Europe and this was most definitely the highlight of our trip. Thanks to the best hosts ever!

AMAZING!
I traveled to Abcoude with a group of 5 others and we all agreed that staying in the windmill was the highlight of our European trip. Maarten was so kind in offering to pick us up from the train station and gifting us a bottle of wine upon our arrival. He even had the windmill on when we got there! The views and the small town of Abcoude were fantastic and definitely things we will always remember!

Absolutely beautiful!
We had a fabulous time, didn’t want to leave. Marten put me to work wrapping up the sails, which I thoroughly enjoyed! The bed was fabulously comfortable. Our stay was beyond words.

MAGICAL
I Just arrived home to the states and its 3 oclock in the morning and i cant sleep thinking about the Mill. What a wonderful stay we had. The Mill is amazing . It has lovingly been preserved and made into a unique rustic comfortable home. When you drive up you are overwhelmed by the structure itself. The inside is wonderfully furnished with a mix of new, rustic and antique furnishings. Maarten was there to show us the workings and a quick tour
He goes out of his way to make sure everything is perfect for your stay and is available for any questions you have
If you are an animal lover, as I am, the cows ,sheep, goats and ducks are there to greet you in the morning ,peacefully grazing in the pastures. It looks like a scene out of a storybook
My daughter and son in law joined us for part of the trip and they cant stop talking about it and showing pics to everyone
We were busy everyday either going into Amsterdam or discovering other villages to visit
But to return home each day to the Mill was so wonderful.
I am close to 70 years old and for no reason I know I was fascinated by Holland( as we called it then) since I was a child. Windmills, Delft, tulips were things i loved since then and have always filled my home.
I guess it was a dream fullfilled to actually go to the Netherlands and stay ina windmill!!

Perfect family vacation with easy access to many sights
Our family of five, 3 adults, a teen and a 12 year old loved our stay in the Windmill. We stayed a week, went into Amsterdam by train 3 days and had a rental car to visit some of the surrounding towns. Its a 25 minute walk to the town of Abcoude or a quick bike ride. Maarten thanks for your hospitality and quick response to any question I had and for running the mill towards the end of our stay. The Netherlands has many amazing sights, but the favorite of my daughters was riding the bikes loaned to us by Maarten around the river and canals right by the mill. On the spur of the moment we drove one day to Hoge Veluwe National Park - about an hour away and rode the bikes provided in the park while another family member went to the Kroller-Muller Museum - we highly recommend this day trip. We commented frequently how happy we were to have rented a place outside of Amsterdam. We hope to visit again - its a special place.

Charmingly Idyllic
A unique experience. Quiet, rural, peaceful, with easy access to Abcoude with its many enticements. Hosted by Maarten, a wonderfully friendly and inviting fellow. From here you can hike, bike, and even swim in the adjacent tranquil river. Even a chance to feed the lambs and goats in the nearby meadow. Would be a perfect “base camp” with easy train access to Amsterdam. Eager to return!!

Great place to stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at the mill. Maarten is an outstanding host. He answered all of our questions promptly and made us feel very welcome. The property itself is great. We enjoyed the historic mill, the rural setting, the nearby town and easy rail access to Amsterdam. We will definitely try to stay here again if we return to the area.
