About this cabin rental
A cute one bedroom log cabin on Rangeley Lake just steps to the water with canoe/kayak launch, swimming and fishing. Picnic tables and grill at the water's edge. Fire pit and Adirondack chairs for relaxation by the lake. Bedroom has a queen and single bed. Great for a couple or family with one child. Close to all in-town amenities with golf course just up the hill near the Country Club Lodge. The town has a dozen restaurants, movie theater, gift and ice cream shops, a great library, town park, historical museum and a well-stocked IGA market. Nearby Oquossoc features the Outdoor Heritage and Sporting Museum which chronicles the rich history of this unique region. Nearby hiking trails and scenic drive opportunities abound.
Loon Cottage is part of a compound of six cabins (we own three) and a house spread out over 400+ feet of sloping, wooded shore front. There is a common access in front of Loon Cottage for folks to swim and launch small water craft like canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards. The lawn area, picnic tables, Adirondack chairs and fire pit are for the exclusive use of Loon guests.
Like many seasonal cabins on Rangeley Lake, Loon draws its water from the lake. This is fine for dishes, showers, etc., but we recommend purchasing drinking water or obtaining it at a nearby spring (directions provided).
DirecTV/DVD/VCR for rainy days/cabin fever.
AVAILABLE MID-MAY THROUGH LATE-OCTOBER
Located in a wildlife preserve, frequent sightings of loons, deer and the occasional moose!

It was great. Right on the lake with loons, merganser ducks, woodpeckers, and many deer.

We were supposed to camp for five nights but raw weather was in the forecast so we changed plans and booked this cabin at the last minute. When we arrived there was a pile of watercraft at the shore in front of the cabin. The lake was calm so we hopped in a kayak. Also used a paddle board and canoe during our stay. The cabin was perfect for two people, very relaxing, and Rangeley is a great area!

We had a wonderful time here. The cabin is so close to the lake, and it's really nice to sit and listen to the sound of the waves - and, at night, the sound of the loons. The cabin is well-kept and cozy, and David was a great host. We'd love to come back!

There is so much to do in the area, trails, fishing, hunting, etc. People are friendly.
This is a rustic cabin right on the lake. Water is supplied from the lake and so water has to be brought in from a flowing well, or purchased. The lake is just a few steps from the front door. There is a canoe, kayak and paddle board for use, a dock, picnic tables, fire pit. The shower was great.
Cleanliness is not the strong suit. It’s a rustic cabin not a motel room.
I would stay again.

The cabin is small but has everything you need. The 3 season porch is comfortable. We had a fire each night, so the free firewood was appreciated. The view of the lake is beautiful.
The beds could stand an upgrade, but otherwise everything was great and we really enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I were looking for a quiet camping get away. This cabin was more than we hoped for. It was well stocked, very clean, and comfortable. The lake was beautiful and the area was filled with trails to hike. We will definitely want to return here.

How nice it was to sit on the porch and hear the loons. It was great to sit on the beach and read and relax. Oquoosoc and the town of Rangeley had some great dining choices and don't miss a trip up Quill hill. Very quiet.

We enjoyed having the windows cracked at night and hearing the water lapping at the shore and loons. Right on the water and convenient to many activities. Comfortable cabin with all the basic amenities.

My wife, dog, and I loved every moment of our getaway at the cozy little Loon cabin.
The cabin and property were just as described. There was plenty of room for the 3 of us and everything was so clean and tidy. Communication with the owner was great and his much needed directions were spot on.
We spent most of our time at the pebble beach enjoying the beautiful scenery. The front porch is perfect for playing games, having a cup of coffee and enjoying the scenic view of the lake.
We couldn't have asked for a better vacation and hope to return next year!

Small camp on hillside looking over the lake. Quiet area in a wildlife sanctuary with lots of deer! Walked the dog in large neighborhood. Also found a nature walk in the area,. There were many walking and hiking trails within driving distance. We really enjoyed our stay. Used the kayak 2 calm mornings, nice porch to view the lake. Negatives - spiderwebs and dirty windows ( I washed inside but couldn't reach outside ☹️) Town close by with shops and restaurants.(many closed at this time due to staffing issues)

If you are looking to relax and enjoy the tranquility of a pristine lakefront property then this is the spot for you. The view is spectacular from all angles. We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation.

This cozy cottage with picturesque views from every direction was a perfect setting for us to explore the Rangeley area and relax. The owner provides a thorough overview of local area recommendations for dining, activities, and was a thorough communicator, even providing very specific directions to locate the property and a map, which was especially useful given the winding, hilly, dirt roads leading to the cottage! Other properties share the waterfront, which was not disruptive at all to our enjoyment, and did not reduce our sense of privacy at all. We especially loved to stargaze by the fire, (with wood provided by the owner, an unexpected and welcome bonus!) and were lucky enough to see the moon rise over the mountains our first night (in addition to several meteorites throughout the week)! Also, we saw several moose following the directions the owner gave in his welcome letter, in addition to lots of local wildlife on property. It was a fantastic stay and we appreciate our time at Loon Cottage!

This cabin sits about 15 feet from the lake. From the porch we saw cedar waxwings, a pileated woodpecker, loons, geese and a mink.

My husband, ten year old son, and I stayed in the little red Loon Cabin to mark the end of our of Covid-19 lock down year in June of 2021. The lupines were just fading out, but we were greeted to a lovely view of wildflowers framing the lake in front of the cabin and loons calling in the distance. Dave was friendly, helpful, and only there to greet you to the area and when you needed him, a perfect host. The cabin was clean, comfortable, and had everything a family of three could possibly need for a comfortable stay while visiting in Maine's breathtaking Rangeley region.
There are a ton of activities in the area and a well appointed camp kitchen for the outdoors minded, and I believe enough shopping and restraunts for those that are not. The local spring that Dave mentions in his area notes has crisp, cool water that we actually found ourselves eager to retrieve on our daily adventures from our comfy base camp.
Nearby Bald Mountain provided a fun day hike for my husband and son, while I enjoyed the peaceful view of the lake and settled us into the cabin on the first day. There was a near constant threat of rain and thunderstorms for our visit, but every day we planned around the showers and still managed to get a ton of outdoor time, including a full day of kayaking exploring the lake and nearby Hunter and Smith coves where we found a beaver and dam, loons with nests, crawfish, and even a bald eagle. Deer were abundant in the area with their fawns, but moose and bears proved to be too elusive despite our best efforts with our telescope.
For planning purposes for those with disabilities: there is a single step from the path into the kitchen at one entrance, rather than having to use the stairs to the screen room. The lawn isn't quite as steep as it seems in photos, but can certainly be an issue to get to the beach area -or- when grass is wet to get to the fire pit. There is a regular toilet with septic system. A clawfoot tub is the only shower/bath, so it may keep those that cannot climb into it from easily accessing it. That being said, there is a very stable rail to help those who only have mild difficulties.
The three of us couldn't have asked for a better trip, small cabin, or host. We absolutely fell in love with the area and all agreed that this wouldn't be our last time in Rangeley, and are all looking forward to the next time we can stay in Loon Cabin.
Many thanks again to Dave for a wonderful stay!

This is a great place to get away from it all. Being only steps from the water lends itself to beautiful lake views and a front row seat the symphony of loons. The cottage is very cozy and has just the right amount of amenities to make for a perfect get away. We hope to become annual visitors.

The owner was most helpful and replied to questions in a timely manner. A good to know is that the property is on steep terrain. Dog and you get a good work out. Tight quarters but proved to be adequate. The lake view is fabulous. Found the location extremely relaxing and very enjoyable.
