The place to be in Giethoorn, right next to the canal, still you can get there by car.
8.0
The accommodation is a semi-detached arrangement, with the host living on one side, and we on the other. That made it easy for if we needed anything. It is a beautiful and well-furnished house, in an excellent location, with a lovely view of the canal, which is right by the garden. But, if you don’t have a car, or if you are not physically mobile, it can be difficult to get around, as there are no taxis or Uber in the area. We were fortunate that our host, Wendy, and various Giethoorn residents, would offer us a lift into the village. Wendy and her husband, Torsten, are such nice, cheerful, and kind people, who would go out of their way to help you. We were very touched by their help.
The only problem we had — and it was a big one, unfortunately — was that our host was overly conservative with the heating. Apparently, electricity bills are through the roof, and our host did not want us to use the heating very much. We understand about electricity bills. But, it was very cold in the house, and the times that the heating was turned on (remotely by the host) did not suit our own timetable (and we told them this). We literally had to beg for the heating to be turned on in the middle of the night, because our arms and legs were cramping up, and we were getting a headache! Our host reasoned that if we couldn’t take the cold, we should have come in the summer. We are well-travelled people, and we have been travelling since before our hosts were born. In addition, we have lived in cold countries, too. So, we don’t expect the weather to accommodate us, and we don’t expect God to bring out the sun every time we go out. But, we do expect that when we come back to the accommodation, that the cold won’t follow us in. That really is not an unreasonable expectation! The hosts, as we have said, are very nice people; but, they just couldn’t understand that foreigners cannot acclimatise to living in a cold house when they are simply on holiday and not living there long-term.

The location was absolutely stunning, it really is the best located property in the village, as you have the beauty of the canal right in front if you, but can also easily park your car. Wendy the host was absolutely charming!
Nothing negative to say whatsoever

Simply outstanding in all aspects: the house located in a beautiful garden, next to the canal, easy access by car just before the street becomes pedestrian so you can park the car right at the house, then stroll into beautiful Giethoorn village.
The owners have spared no expenses to extensively equip the house: the kitchen and living rooms are absolutely fabulous, you could cook for a large family. Everything works well and is sparkling new.
Fabulous owner, very friendly and helpful.
We liked the option to bring our own sheets.
For the value for money and location, complains on minor details are irrelevant.
But OK, just to say that the house is difficult to find when arriving at night / but just call the owner she is there to help you.
