Close to Homer, easy 30-minute drive to Harbor for fishing.

Beautiful cabin with absolutely everything we needed and then some. We stayed as a family of 7. We only stayed for the weekend so we made the most of it . On the way to the cabin, we fished the Kenai river for silvers. Grandkids had a blast. The next day we spent most of our time in Homer, eating and shopping. We also did some fishing in Homer, but not much luck.

This place was beautiful, unique decor, extremely clean. The host was extremely helpful throughout the reservation process and during our stay. If you want to stay at the best Homer/Anchor Point area has to offer, this is the place!

John was there to greet us. Beautiful home and close to Homer and great halibut fishing. Only down side was internet was a little hit and Miss but that’s a good thing in anchor point.
Highly recommend

Really awesome cabin that provides the full Alaska experience. Easy to find. Very easy check in and check out process. Well maintained property. Good location that is close enough to Homer for charter trips.

This cabin was in a great location for all our day plans in Homer. 4 of us stayed in the cabinet, but we had 4 other friends over in the evenings for dinner. The space was comfortable and the deck was an added entertaining space that we loved.

Cool place--been to his property before, would not hesitate to return
Overall, very cool place. Simple. Clean. Everything worked.
There are always little things with places like these--but its all part of the charm. Only thing that brought down the rating to a 4 star instead of 5 was the water heater/expansion tank (we assume) made a very loud knocking noise about every 5 minutes...24 hours a day. So if you are a light sleeper--you'll hate it.
Otherwise, cool place. Alaska is always fun

True Alaskan atmosphere
This was a great location for everything we wanted to do on the peninsula. We traveled to Homer a few dates and then to Seward. The cabin was rustic and had the feel of “true Alaskan Wilderness”

Awesome cabin
We loved our stay at Wise Old Hunter Cabin. It is a beautiful log cabin about 20 minutes outside of Homer. Filled with the owners taxidermy which we loved but others might not. Has a great deck with a bar and grill to rest on after a long day. John was great to deal with and helped us book our fishing trip and an ATV tour. Only feedback I would share is that they have a water softening system that goes off whenever any water is used. It is VERY loud to the point that it woke us all up. Outside of that the cabin was really great and I would stay here again.

5 Stars for the Old Wise Hunter Cabin
What sets the the Old Wise Hunter Cabin apart from the ubiquitous cabin rental is the owner and builder's attention to detail. The cabin has an eclectic interior with stuffed animals as well as the stories of their hunt all nicely narrated in the cabin's manual. The cabin is also filled with everything you need for a few days stay, including coffee, teas, snacks, as well as a very nice laundry machine and dryer. We had 8 people stay there and we really loved the experience.

Perfect location
We enjoyed staying at the cabin. We had everything we needed and the washer and dryer was a lifesaver after being in Alaska so long. We were able to relax, cook and play cards with plenty of comfort to stretch out and enjoy the accommodations.

Rustic History in Amazing Log Home
This was a beautifully crafted log cabin that was well appointed and had great resources. The binder of information was very appreciated. It was fantastic to be able to speak to John who grew up in the cabin and gave more history to the Bear Paw development. The location in anchor point was perfect for our fishing trip in Ninilchik and visit to Homer.
Thanks John

Perfect spot near Homer
We only got to stay one night but it was perfect for our group of 5. The back deck is great for relaxing with a cold one after a day of sightseeing. The beds are comfy and the kitchen well stocked!

Old Wise Hunter lodge
We were lucky to find this amazing place to rent for the week in July 2016. The cabin was just perfect! We had never been to Alaska and planned the whole trip on our own so that we were able to do what we wanted. We went to Homer and went out fishing with Falcon Charters Captain Tony and had a blast. We did meet John Ogle and his wife that were both very nice! Alaska is a trip of a lifetime and so blessed our trip was perfect! Thank you John! Hope to be back to see you again soon! Log cabin lots of charm and warmth
What a wonderful place to stay! Lots of room for a large group or seclusion for a romantic getaway. Close to Homer and the Kenai Peninsula. The deck and covered BBQ were great gathering places. The owner was very accommodating even when we had to cancel and re-schedule. Could not wait to show pictures to friends of the wonderful place we found at the Wise Old Hunter.

Perfect stay at Wise Old Hunter Lodge!
My husband and I stayed at Wise Old Hunter Lodge for our honeymoon in Alaska. The owner/property manager of Bear Paw Adventure was extremely accommodating since we wanted the adventure package with a different cabin than what was offered on the website. He worked it out so that we could get the adventure package with the cabin we wanted. The owner/property manager helped us schedule all of our adventure activities during our stay at Wise Old Hunter Lodge, which was a beautiful cabin that perfectly suited our needs. The activities scheduled for us included bear viewing at Katmai National Park and Preserve (the adventure of a lifetime!), a halibut fishing charter (we’re still enjoying all of the delicious halibut we caught), a hiking/kayaking combo trip (we did this one in the rain, but it was still fun), and a Kenai Fjords cruise (this adventure activity is a must—you won’t be disappointed!). We loved all of the activities that were scheduled for us. Having someone else schedule our activities for us was a tremendous help planning our trip to Alaska. We hope that we get to return to Bear Paw Adventure for a longer visit someday. One week was not long enough! We’re grateful to Bear Paw Adventure for ensuring our trip to Alaska was as amazing as we hoped it would be. We highly recommend staying at Bear Paw Adventure if you’re planning a trip to Homer or Anchor Point!

Well outfitted with rustic charm. Great base for Cook Inlet Fishing and Peninsula tourism. Very comfortable with a surprisingly well equipped kitchen. Will definitely stay again.

Moose Cabin
I live in Juneau and had never been to Homer before. I planned a trip in July 2014 and after some research decided to stay at the Moose Cabin in Anchor Point. I was very impressed with the quality of this facility and how big it was. I instantly fell in love with the place and how quiet and serene this cabin is and yet it had all the amenities you could ask for. Everything is exactly how I would have decorated the place and thought several times how easy it would be for me to live there. I highly recommend staying at Bear Paw Adventure and in the future would not hesitate to stay there again when I'm in the area. The only negative thing I would say is the shower did not have much water pressure so I'm not sure if that was an isolated problem at the time but that did not stop me from enjoying myself while I stayed there.
