About this house rental
Two houses, two pools, for a total of 5 Bedrooms, 2 kitchens, 3.5 baths, 2 outdoor showers. Both homes are bright, clean and comfy, the second home was built in 2017. Main house is on the beach, has 3BR’s and 2 full baths, a half bath near pool, and an outdoor shower. Second home has second floor 2BR apartment, with one full bath, and outdoor shower by the fenced in pool. This is Costa Rica living at its best. Live among the locals, ex-patriots, surfers and tourists from all over the world in a quiet little rural town. Just a few steps to the pristine uncrowded beach, just a few blocks to the local grocery store, restaurants and bars in the town of Esterillos Oeste. Sit in or explore the tide pools at mid tide, and climb out to the famous Esterillos mermaid statue at low tide on the smooth volcanic reef behind the house. Listen for the flock of Scarlet Macaws that eat almonds regularly in the trees on the beach behind the house! If you come at the right time of year (May-ish), mangos are falling off the trees everywhere! In the mornings, wake up just before the sunrise, and listen to the chorus of birds, welcoming the new day. Take a walk on the secluded beach and watch the sun come up. In the evenings, watch the sunset on that same beach or take a leisurely walk to town and enjoy some of the great food, and drinks at our local establishments. Safe to walk around, day or night. On the weekends, catch a local band playing in the bars and restaurants, enjoy the local color and unique people that live, work and visit Esterillos. Jump in the car and drive about 20 minutes to Jaco for casinos, bars and nightlife, beach tourist shops, bakery, butcher shop, massages and wonderful restaurants. World famous surfing in Playa Hermosa, or for those less experienced, rent a surf board in Oeste, and surf on the beach behind the house. Surf lessons are available in town at Brets Boards. Horse back riding with Discovery Horse tours, ATV tours, Manuel Antonio National Park only 45 minutes away, Crocodile Tours, Zip Lines, Fishing and Boat Charters, Mango Monkey tours, all a short driving distance away. These two houses are next door to each other. Caretaker/concierge onsite to answer questions, arrange transportation, meals, shopping, tours, or assist with local recommendations.

This house is the perfect location, the surf is the best right out front of the house, right on the beach, this place is perfect for large groups, the town has a local vibe and great food, also close to more great food! There was construction going on at the time of our stay that created some early morning noise but once that is done there shouldn’t be any issues! 10/10 would recommend

We had a great stay at Casa Los Pelicanos. It was perfectly located on the beach, and we really enjoyed the layout of the whole house, pool, and outdoor kitchen. There was plenty of room for our whole group in the main house and the additional apartment. Lorenzo was quick to respond and help with the few issues that came up while we were there. And the mangoes that fell out of the tree constantly were so delicious!!!

We stayed with a group of 8 renting both the guest house & main house. The location on the water is spectacular. The kids loved the pool, but they only come clean it when you ask.We could walk to the mermaid statue, and it was an easy drive to Jaco to wonderful restaurants & shopping. Distance from the airport wasn't ideal, with construction traffic it took us several hours to find the house, but the location is worth the drive. Our stay was lovely, but a bit rocky at times. The locks need to be replaced, they were a problem the entire trip. We would call property management and they would come over and jiggle the lock and say that they worked just fine, but to our frustration, we never figured them out. The guest house had a leak in the washing machine & there was water everywhere our first day. The outdoor kitchen was great for our group, but the table, while fun to look at, was not conducive to play games as a group. The outdoor kitchen also seemed to be over run with carpenter ants. In the mornings we would find piles of sawdust on the counters next to the doors. The burners didn't all work on the stove which made cooking for a group tough. I also found it strange that we had to supply our own water, toilet paper & paper towels after we used the small supply that was left. The host, Nancy was helpful before our trip answering questions, but it seems that maybe the property management company isn't keeping the hosts up to date on the state of the property and needed TLC.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The property is just as described and the location is perfect! The property managers Christian and Lorenzo were amazing! They were incredibly responsive and helped us with coordinating excursions, renting surf boards as well as arranging dinner to be cooked at the property. We will definitely be back !

This was the perfect property for our extended family vacation. Our group of 12 included 4 kids, 3 Grand Parents, an Aunt and an Uncle. We were all very comfortable in the lodging and the proximity to the beach was amazing. We visited several other beaches in the area (Jaco, Playa Hermosa, Quepos) and everyone in our group agreed that our quiet little surfing beach was by far the best! If your looking for a place to stay away from the tourist crowds this is it. The property manager Christian Rojas was fantastic! He was very responsive the our entire trip (8 days) and helped to coordinate many of our activities and offered great suggestions. We also had Christian and his chef connection Nacho cook dinner for us one night at the house and it was hands down the best meal we had during the whole trip, what a treat! I can't say enough about the experience as a whole and the kids are already saying it was their favorite family vacation so far.

We enjoyed our stay so much. We wanted a quiet area, not touristy, with ocean access, restaurants and stores within walking distance, and we got exactly that! Our family and extended family enjoyed the pools, the hammocks, and the outdoor kitchen so much. The space was just what we wanted and having air conditioning inside was wonderful when we needed a break from the heat! We walked into town each night and had so many tasty dinners at the many local restaurants available. The local community was friendly and safe. The management company was responsive and accommodating and even helped us book a chef to come and cook the mahi mahi that we caught while deep sea fishing. If you are interested in trying authentic, local cuisine,I would highly recommend having the chef come in! It was amazing! We couldn't have had a better stay, and we all agreed that we would go back in a heartbeat!

Our second time to this peaceful, friendly, fishing village. We loved the location of the house and pools for watching and playing with the small kids. The beach and ocean so close we could build sand castles with the kids while the adults surfed within view, empty endless beaches with good surfing waves. The local restaurants had the best food, especially Los Almendros! They prepared the mahi mahi, for a discount per plate, that our group caught deep sea fishing. They went out with 2 local small boats and had a great experience out watching whales n dolphins while catching 12 mahi mahi.
The kitchen was lacking a working coffee grinder but we used the blender for that and electric orange juicer didn’t work.
The air conditioners worked well in the bedrooms. All around it was a great place to stay with our family, married kids and the grandkids!

The beach is your back yard.
Nice, well-kept grounds with a beautiful beach right behind the property. Lounge under the coconut trees. Or climb up and get a fresh "pipa" to sip. One of the locals did just so.
I liked being in a regular neighborhood and well away from tourist resorts. But with this, and the tropical environment, bugs can be a pain if not dealt with. Bring bug spray.
We rented both the Casa and Casita. For a group of 11, we had plenty of room. Both homes had very nice furniture, closets and A/C in every room. Both kitchens have new stovetop ovens and refrigerators. If you aren't fond of the Costa Rica Creepy Crawlers, I advise you spray your rooms before turning in for the night.
Outside you have two pools; one for each home. Pools were nice and the guys from the "506" team were great to come and clean out the pool right away. Those guys were quick to answer our calls or texts via Whatsapp and come immediately to handle any problem. We had some minor issues with bathroom fixtures which can be remedied with some updates.
Getting back outside, pelicans, red macaws, frigates, fly above. If you're a hermit crab fan, well this is the place for you. They all come out at dusk and parade down the Hermit Crab Highway to the shore donning their commandeered shells of every variety available. We were also visited by a great, ancient iguana. He gave us a show as he ate some leaves off a bush and performed some acrobatics.
All of this could have been a little more enjoyable with some more outdoor lounging furniture and a few more hammocks. But I digress.
The outdoor kitchen, better known as El Rancho, was a really nice spot to hang out, eat and drink. Wifi was a bit slow there, but we had good company.
All in all, a beautiful place, beach, neighborhood, country, and people.
We also made friends with the next-door neighbor, Macha. She will cook any type of food you like, as long as it's local fare. Abuelita can cook, and you can't beat her prices! She and her family were very friendly. Ask to see her cashew tree. It is a rare treat for gringos like us. One that we will experience again. Hopefully soon...

Good price, great property
Overall had a great time, good price. Had a few issues like leaks due to heavy rain. But it’s great to be ocean front, the place is clean just needs some updating.

A little slice of heaven
We had 3 small families ranging in age from 12 to 80 and rented both spaces of this beautiful property. We found it worked perfectly for us - giving the 4 teens some space of their own and each of the grown up pairs lots of room too. The bedrooms were comfortable and nicely appointed. Simple, clean and easy going. Appreciated the separate toilet room from the shower room for the shared bath in the bedrooms by the pool. And the extra bathroom close to the pool came in handy as well. The grounds were beautiful. Loved the outdoor kitchen. It was a little tough to open up, but we got used to it quickly. Enjoyed the outdoor common area. Lots of room for us in the shade as well as in the pool. I would say the only missing piece for us with space would be that there was no real space for us all to get together and have us all sitting (10 of us). We would have liked to watch a movie or something in the evening - but the place is not really set up for that. Instead we just did long dinners out and went to bed early so we could get up early and enjoy the whole beautiful day.
The restaurants were stellar and within easy walking distance. Just a short walk to the centre of town brought you to our favourite 3 as well as the larger of the grocery stores. You could choose to walk the beach over and up, or walk the road. Felt safe either way at any time. We often did breakfast and or lunch in the outdoor kitchen and then dinner out. One of the couples in our group ate every meal out and had lots to choose from. Especially enjoyed watching the morning surfers while eating breakfast down the beach at Rancho Coral.
But the jewel of the trip would be the beautiful beach and town. It was such a magical place. The landscape boasted a wonderful surf we boogie boarded daily, a beautiful grand beach we walked for hours and the magical tide pools we enjoyed under the watchful gaze of the Mermaid Vagamonda. Parrots galore, daily visits from the local iquanas and then there is the next door neighbour’s hens and horses. The rooster we could have done without, but we’ll cut him a break as he has several ladies to watch out for. Also loved the neighborhood dogs. Had one adopt us for the last few days of our stay. Followed us everywhere - even in to the grocery store to point out it’s favourite food. Lol
All in all this was a great place and a fantastic trip!

Great family beach stay
Esterillos Oeste is a lovely quiet Costa Rican town. The beach in front was great. We loved the outdoor kitchen and sitting area. Kids loved the pool. A couple of minor issues with the house were very quickly resolved. Thanks for a lovely time.

Best 50th birthday of my life!
We rented both the Casita and the main house. There were 7 adults and 3 children. The set up of the 3 bedrooms for the main house was perfect and the outdoor kitchen made cooking and entertaining by the pool a breeze! This was our third time to Esterillos Oeste and as always what an awesome place to enjoy the surf and uncrowded beaches (even during Tico long weekend)! Being so close to everything was nice and Felipe quickly took care of the two small problems we had (leaking at first water dispenser then we asked for a net to take a small amount of leaves and bugs that can fall into the pool)
I am sure we will rent this house again for my 55 birthday as it seems we are here every 5 years for that reason!

Esterillos Oeste
Our group of 6 adults and 4 kids (ages 6-10) found this property ideal for our week of surfing and relaxing. The compound is right on the beach by the mermaid, which is an excellent area for novice surfers and surf casting. The property owners and managers were very quick to respond and exceptionally accommodating to all our requests.

Amazing time in Esterillos Oeste “Pura Vida”
My family and I had an amazing 10 day vacation in Esterillos Oeste. The home we rented was clean, charming, large, and literally right on the beach. We could walk into town to the store and for great dining options, as well as hang on the beach all day surfing, boogie boarding, and swimming. The house had two pools and plenty of room for the 5 of us. The property manager Felipe did an excellent job of setting us up on tours and advising us on activities and local restaurants. Overall a fabulous experience and we can’t wait to do it again

Friends on vacation
We stayed at the property with 3 families (11 people in total) and the accommodation was really nice. Felipe who helped us book in and who helped arrange a couple of our excursions was fantastic. We really enjoyed being so close to the beach.

Nice place, good service, maintenance required.
Nice place to stay with a family. the 3 buildings are adequate for 12 people.
Everything is clean. Basic commodities, nothing fancy... But a pleasant place for a few nights.
unfortunately, during our stay there were several things that were not in working order... Good service fixed most, but it's a shame they were not working to begin with.
E.g. Koffiemaker not working, 1 curtain missing, 1 fan not working, these are things that simply should be in order. It does not effect the overall experience a whole lot... But as said... Should be ok in the first place.
AC of the poolside rooms are noisy and barely manage to cool down the rooms during the night. Not an Issue for us... But if you look for a cold AC room to sleep...this AC will no be enough for you.
Overall, nice place to stay that would be even better with up to date maintenance.

AMAZING!!
We can not say enough about our trip to Esterillos Oeste and this beautiful beachfront property!!!
This property was perfect for our group of 10 ( 6 adults and 4 boys ages 10, 12, 12, &15). We rented both houses which accommodated our group with extra space as well. We spent the days exploring and enjoying our time between the beach out front and the pool. We grilled at night or enjoyed tasty dinners at the local restaurants within walking distance. There was a store just up the street that provided us with everything we needed!!
The boys loved the waves out front and even took surfing lessons from Brett's Boards ( a must). We rented a private boat with a crew and took a day trip to Tortuga Island (another must!)
We had abundant wildlife ( iguana's, macaw's, cows, humming birds and even a cat we named bullseye ). The weather was PERFECT!! and the locals were super friendly!
The property manager Felipe was attentive to our every need!
Thank you David and Nancy for sharing your paradise with us! We will be back!

Great Family Vacation!
My parents, brother, husband, 3 kids, and I just returned from a week's stay in Esterillos Oeste, and it was incredible. The house ended up being great for our family. I didn't have a good sense of the layout from the listing, but the main "house" is a motel-style building containing just the 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, but note that the third bedroom (on the far right in the pics) does not actually connect to the other two inside. It was pretty hot last week, and the a/c in the rooms couldn't totally keep up, but with the fans going, it ended up being fine. The kitchen, or "rancho," is a completely separate structure with a large shaded patio for dining. It's right off the beach, so between the shade and the breeze off the beach, it was pretty comfortable even when it was 90 degrees outside. The guesthouse is behind the main house; it's a more modern structure with better a/c and a small living area, but it's all upstairs above the owner's garage. So, there's not much indoor living space.
But, no one goes to Costa Rica to sit around indoors; we just spent 100% of our time outside. The main pool is beautiful, with a nice breeze off the beach, and shade in the afternoon. There's a gate leading from the pool/rancho area through a small grove of palm trees straight to the beach, which is wide and stunningly gorgeous. The surf is a little rough for small children to swim, but they can dig and splash in the shallow part for hours. And the local mermaid is almost a straight shot from the house.
Esterillos Oeste itself is small and fairly quiet - we had the beach to ourselves most days - but there was a small supermarket just up the street with the essentials, and two restaurants just a short stroll down the beach (we recommend the Hotel Rancho Coral!). It's only 20 minutes south of Jaco which has a bigger grocery store, and we made a day trip to Manuel Antonio, which is about an hour drive.
Felipe, the property manager, was *super* responsive all week (even though his wife had a baby in the middle of our stay!) and couldn't have made us feel more welcomed.
Thanks for a wonderful family vacation!!

Costa Rica Beach Paradise
We had an amazing time at this property. It's nestled right in the small beachfront village of Esterillos Oeste and is right on the beach, only separated by a beautiful shady grove of coconut palms. We were right in the flight path of screeching Scarlet Macaws that hang out in the surrounding mango trees. We were awakened every day by the beautiful calls of many different birds. The plants and trees on the property are absolutely beautiful! The feeling here is real, native Costa Rica. Not plush in the cushy resort sense, but very comfortable with everything we needed and walking distance to several restaurants and a small grocery store. We were even adopted by a little local dog who decided we were her family for the week. The owners as well as the property managers Felipe and Danny were fantastic and were super responsive to help us with whatever we needed. We had the big house and the little house for 6 of us (plenty of room for more) so everybody had plenty of privacy and space. Already looking forward to the next time here!

Costa Rica at it finest
We had the whole property for our family. The main house was very comfortable and perfect for beach living. The apartment was perfect for our teenage children to relax and sleep in between trips to the beach, pool or other Costa Rica adventures that our family took. The beach was just outside the gate. The water was amazing temperatures, surfing up the beach was a must and if you go in September and October there’s a turtle farm that protects the turtles coming in to lay their eggs and monitors the release of their young when they hatch. There are amazing wild macaws that fly into a nut tree every morning and evening for their meals. Lizards and iguanas adventure the property and woods around. The Costa Rican people are amazing ensuring we see the true beauty of their country. The property managers are located at the surf hotel in town. They were there to direct us to local sightseeing adventures, educate us about their country and community and fix the internet when it went down. We love to stay in a home when we travel so our family can experience the true communities of their world. Thank you to the owners and property managers for making our stay in Costa Rica so rich and fulfilling.
