Our family of five really enjoyed our short stay. Everyone had their own space but connected with the pool and observation area on top. Communication was good and the house had everything we needed. The bedrooms all had great working air conditioning. The main house family room didn’t but there were two fans. We walked to the restaurants nearby: Los Almendros - we ate there twice, El Patio - they had trivia night on the Tuesday night we arrived, a lot of ex-pats and American music which was fun, and then Soda Margarita for breakfast. The driveway to the villa was a bit steep for our large SUV but we made it work. The villa is in a small town but close enough to Jaco and Manuel Antonio for more activities. I liked being away from all the traffic and crowds. If you’d like to learn to surf I’d recommend Bretts Boards. He lives in town and you’ll see his sign down the street from the house but we met him at a beach resort about 10 mins away. That was fun. Overall the house was truly unique (especially the amazing views!) and had everything we needed.

Our family of eight could not have picked a better place very roomie for three different couples and two teenagers. The pool was a definite hit Beautiful The house is centrally located. We traveled to Jaco and Manuel Antonio several times. The streets in this area are very well-maintained. We rented cars and had them directly delivered to the house or they will pick you up at either airport (Jaco suv Rentals.) Fabian and the owner were incredible to work with There are three restaurants right close to the house that are incredible. El patio was our favorite. Lots of spectacular excursions very close. Our favorite was the kayak tour. Nacarcosta Mangrove Tours will definitely come back.

We loved staying at Hilltop House!! Our group was a family of 6 including 2 grandparents and 2 kids (10-13 years). The house was great!! We loved the pool and hanging out in the “eagles nest” to enjoy the view and animals (several bird nests on the property, iguanas, macaws flying to/from the beach, and even a cane toad) The beach (we drove due to the steep hill) was very close (no issues parking) and great for boogie boarding, jumping waves, tide pools and seeing scarlet macaws (10+ daily). We were there the week after Easter and the beach was practically empty every day (aside from the occasional dog/cat and one time even a group of cows). There is a small bar/restaurant right on the beach with decent food and drinks. The town is small but has several restaurants, 2 small grocery stores, and a place to rent surf & boogie boards. The town is in a great location, about 20 min to Jaco and an hour to Manuel Antonio. If you enjoy being at a more low key place with a great beach but still close to touristy places this is a great location for you!! We arranged for a chef two nights via the host (amazing food although the first dinner the chef made enough food for 3 meals), ate out a couple times, and cooked meals several times as well. Los Almendros is a great place to eat in town. The host and property manager were very good at responding and sorting out some minor issues very quickly. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again!

We had an amazing stay at Hilltop House. The accommodations were comfortable and beautiful. Daily swims in the ocean and pool. Would love to come back for a longer stay!

The house was very nice. The arrangement was better than I expected from the description of the house. 10 of us stayed at the house including 2 young kids and a baby and we were all comfortable. The suite that was located above the garage separate from the main house was great for my brother and his wife with 6 month old baby. The suite had its own shower and a mini kitchen so they had privacy and comfort. As I read in other reviews, the steep hills up to the house and the driveway was a bit challenging but we managed with our 4 wheel drive rental cars. Fabian (the property manager) was responsive, informative, and essential to the success of our stay.

This place is perfect. The feeling of unbothered paradise with the comforts of home. Everything we needed was a short walk or less than 2 minutes drive. We will be coming back!

We came to CR with 6 adults to celebrate the high school graduation of one. Tha property is a little difficult due to gravel roads and steep incline. 4x4 is highly recommended. The property is stunning, within close proximity to stores, local restaurants, and the beach. Very comfortable and the pool was wonderful. Owner and property manager were exceptionally responsive. All rooms are good sized, observation deck has 360 degree viee of ocean and mountains, and outdoor/partially open areas are beautifully decorated. Would definitely rent again!!

The place to unwind
The Hilltop House provide the right amount of privacy to disconnect from the grind. Eating breakfast and listing to the waves crash as you watch the Macaws fly by provides the perfect serenity. Easily walkable to the beach or local bar
The restaurant at the bottom of the hill provides great local cuisine and the owner of the restaurant gave us a ride back to the house
If you need something more touristy. It is a 20 minute taxi ride to Jaco.
And we highly recommend contacting the owner. She has a local lady and her daughter that will come to the house and fix meals. They show and bring all the food. She treated us like family and fed us well. Hands down the best CR food we ate was made by her

Beautiful views but rough entry getting to house
We loved the views of the rain forest from the top level. We saw monkeys, toucans, macaws, and several exotic birds. The pool was wonderful. It was easiest to travel to Jaco via Uber and cheaper than renting a car. The road to the house was pretty challenging for our older ones in the group and to Uber drivers. The beach in Esterillos was nice and grocery stores were adequate for simple things. We got most food in Jaco and ate at some good restaurants there. Had a little trouble connecting with property manager but owners were very prompt and helpful. Loved the heat and even humidity this time of year!

40th bday home base a success
Our group of 8 30 somethings - except me the 40 year old - had a wonderful stay at Hilltop House. We enjoyed the different outdoor hang out spots especially the rancho and pool. Amazing views are as stated. A nice walk to beach and a nice walk to the tasty restaurant options and very serviceable market. We were very glad to have a sleepy neighborhood than a busier, touristy destination - felt way more authentic.

This place is incredible!
We had an absolute blast and this place is the best! The views are amazing, love the little town, it’s a short walk down the hill to the beach! We were a groups of 8 and this house was plenty big enough for us all to have our own spaces but still be together as a group. It was fully furnished and lacked nothing. We couldn’t have found a better place for our vacation. The property manager, Yocseliny, is by far the best around! She gave us all the information we needed, she was always very prompt with any questions or info we needed, super friendly and professional! We will stay here again and again!

Fabulous house with amazing views!
We love this house! Cannot say enough great things, the view is incredible! The house is very spacious for couple families, our kids enjoyed the iguanas that live on the property! The macaws flying over in the morning was breathtaking!
We will be back!

Hilltop house
Wow! I am not sure i can put this experience into words. We have rented vacation homes for years and the house was beautiful but the management was top notch. Very attentive and did everything she could to make sure we were taken care of. We weathered a bad storm during our stay and she got the maid, pool guy, yard guy, roof guy everyone out the very next morning to make sure the yard:house was immaculate. Wow the service was indescribable. This was just the icing on the cake for our trip to this beautiful country. Can’t wait to visit again!! Yoceliny thank you for everything!!!!

Great property for family and friends.
We stayed at hilltop house for 8 nights celebrating a birthday with a group of 7 of our friends and family. The house was great at accommodating privacy as well as having multiple larger areas to commune. The 360 degree view 3rd story was great for enjoying sunrises and sunsets. With the naked eye we watched capuchin monkeys come out at dusk and dawn in a tree not far from the property. The pool was the perfect size for everyone to cool off and our 4 year old son to jump in and swim around. We cooked quite a bit and the kitchen had every pot, pan, and utensil we needed to use multiple burners at once. The separate apartment is great for a family traveling with a young child as it has its own kitchen as well as a crib and extra pullout bed. We had a vehicle to get around as the hike down (and up) the hill is not far but challenging — especially in the sun! In town there are a couple of stores that met most of our needs. There are also some great restaurants as well as a fried chicken window.
Yocseliny, the manager of the property, was very helpful and prompt at answering questions we had. It was an amazing vacation in a quiet town with some really nice people.

Best family vacation we have ever had!!
My husband and I stayed here with our 12 and 9 year old children as well as our best friends and their 5 year old son and newborn baby and nanny. This house was perfect for a multi-family vacation. We all had our own private spaces! The property is absolutely stunning with beautiful tropical landscaping, macaws, monkeys, iguanas and even a sweet coatimundi!
It was an easy drive to Jaco Beach for surf lessons, to Quepos to meet our whitewater rafting guide and to the famous Hermosa Beach!
The owners was so helpful in helping us arrange for horseback riding, fly fishing, ziplining, chefs, surf lessons, a monkey farm tour, whitewater rafting and restaurant recommendations.
The gated property is fantastic! The owners literally own the hill and the homes sit at the top of the hill with a gorgeous 3rd floor terrace overlooking the jungle AND with a view of the ocean.
We did so many amazing things on the 6 days we were there but certainly a highlight was have massage therapists come to the house and give us couples massages on the beautiful upper deck of the main house during a powerful rainstorm.
My children said that it is by far the most incredible place they have ever gone and we go a lot of places!
I can't say enough wonderful things about this property, the owners, the property manager and the experience in general.
It was truly a magical vacation!

Great place to relax with family
We had a great week here with our extended family. There were plenty of beautiful spaces to gather or to be alone. A highlight was birdwatching on the top deck. The neighborhood was quiet and the town was very relaxed. The nearby beach was good for boogeyboarding and surfing. A great house and a great vacation.

A paradise for a family
The place is fantastic. We were 7 adults and 4 children in this big house and each was able to settle down comfortably and have his intimacy. The apartement above the garage is brilliant. The swimming pool is maintained well and we were surprise that there is not or very few insects (ants or others) in the house. The sea is not too far, we can go on foot there but it is necessary to expect to climb a good hill on the way back. No negative point except that a clothesline would have been very appreciated. We recommend strongly the rent of this house.
N.B.: You must be very careful with a small child because he could be able to pass trough the banister of balconies and find himself on the roof or downright on the ground.

Beautiful home with beautiful views!
We stayed in the hilltop house June 20-25...the house was gorgeous! Decorated beautifully and lots of space. Our favorite part was the rooftop deck- overlooking the mountains and jungle on one side and the ocean on the other. We would go up there every morning to drink our coffee and watch the parrots fly by.
The pool at the house was great after a long day of adventuring and the ocean was just a short walk down the hill. The local people around town were very friendly and accommodating! If we wanted a little more shops and restaurants- it was only a 15-20 minute drive to Jaco. We can't wait to go back to Costa Rica! So many things to do! Our short 5 night stay wasn't long enough to see and do it all!

One of a Kind Hose and Wonderful Location!
This house is one of a kind, the views on the top deck are stunning. The house was very clean, pool is great, and the property manager set up transportation to and from airport. She had arranged breakfast for our party of 10 at the house some of the days which was great to not have to leave the house. The locals are so friendly in this area, the beach is wonderful, tidal pool was fun for the kids, there even was a waterfall on the side of the mountain on the beach. There are a few restaurants in town down the hill that the food and service are wonderful, especially La Sirenas, where you really get a Costa Rican feel. Was perfect location for all our tours we did in Jaco and Manual Antonio! Our family was very pleased!

Great Girls Trip!!!
What a fabulous house!!! Went for a short getaway with just the girls for some R&R and had a wonderful time. The house pictures on this site, do not do it justice. The pool is great, nice and quiet, peaceful, and always felt safe. The beach was so nice, just down the hill (easier with car, than walking) but within minutes and the restaurant/bar right on the beach is a plus with excellent service! We went into Jaco a couple times, but we loved the location of the house, as its not too far from the main action, but yet far enough away from all the hustle bustle, very private! The name of the house is perfect as this is one of the highest houses on the hill, with views to die for! Thanks to the property manager who did a superb job answering all our questions and setting up tours, etc! What a great vacation we had!!!

Simply Amazing!!!
This house was wonderful for our family! The property manager was so helpful coordinating every tour and transportation to and from the airport as she was readily available throughout our stay with whatever needs we had. The house was spotless clean, and such a unique house. Nice size for our large family and plenty of space and nice size pool and sunbathing area. The observation deck on the third level is breathtaking! The views are priceless and every morning Macaws flying over! There is even a friendly Iguana that lives on site! The kitchen is well stocked for our meals we had at home. This location was perfect, just a quick minutes drive to the beach, we enjoyed the Tide pool, exploring and relaxing! One of the best vacations we ever had! We will be back for sure, thank you for amazing hospitality and an amazing house!

Nice place
This is a nice place and I would have given it a higher rating but there at least a couple of things that are not as advertised. There is no "blue tooth" stereo system and there is no coffee to get you started.
Also, when I spoke with the manager months before, I had asked if all windows and doors locked and the answer was "yes". When we arrived we noticed that this was not the case. The issue was addressed rapidly. During our 6 weeks stay, quite a few other issues came up which most were addressed within a few days.
If you are travelling with children and/or are not fit, you should seriously consider renting a car to really enjoy this location. We managed without one by using local drivers to get around when we had to go for groceries in Jaco etc... Let me tell you that walking down to the ocean is not bad but coming back up in 35c temperature is a hike! It did get a bit easier after 6 weeks.
So yes, we had a good time and the house offers nice views and a comfort level above average. A little bit more tender loving care would make it a topnotch location.

Great Vacation Home
We stayed at the Hilltop house for 5 days in May. This spacious house has everything to offer for a great getaway. The best of both worlds -- relaxing in the tranquil jungle setting with beautiful views yet being close enough to go into town and have a meal or get groceries. The beach is beautiful, the Pacific Ocean is so warm, I was surprised.
We spent a lot of our time on the top deck of the house. The views are awesome from up there. We loved everything about this beautiful house. We can't wait to go back. I've already recommended it to several friends.
Thanks for having us : )

Hilltop House is Fab
Our stay at the house was great. The house was very clean and beautiful. We had a total of 9 guests and everyone had plenty of room. Beds were comfy, and the pool was incredibly clean and well kept.
Renting a car to get around is not necessary. We were able to walk for groceries and the occasional meal out.
The town itself is lovely and sleepy. The beach is very clean and not very populated. Would stay here again!
