About this house rental
Great location in beautiful Rockport. The house is a ten minute walk into town - Bearskin Neck shopping, art galleries, restaurants and the Shalin Liu Performance Center. Also a short drive to some of the Cape Ann's best beaches.
***PLEASE NOTE the stairs are original and a bit steeper then average. The house is not suitable for small children or people who have knee challenges.
This family home was built in 1876 and is lovingly maintained. The family is related to Richard Tarr one of the first settlers in Rockport. Quaint, charming, sunny and cozy. There are special touches like the hand painted murals from the 1940's that make the house uniquely inviting. There is a lovely garden and patio for outdoor dining.
This house has three bedrooms- the spacious master with one queen, a second small bedroom with two twins and a tiny bedroom on the ground floor with a single. The driveway serves two cars with additional street parking available.

A wonderful Christmas stay. My husband and I were visiting family and this was a perfect place for us to unwind. Adorable, inviting and cozy. Immaculate, comfortable, bright. A lovely memory. Karen, our host, responding immediately. Thank you, Karen, for a most wonderful stay. We hope, when we visit again, we can stay at your lovely place.

My family and I spent a week in this perfect home. I absolutely fell in love from the minute I walked in. The house is clean and very well kept , everything was provided for us. It made crisp fall days absolutely beautiful.

We had a wonderful stay! The home was cozy and comfortable, and we all slept like babies each night. The beds are so comfortable! We enjoyed visiting in the living room each night, and we were very comfortable throughout. We had all we needed. P.s. the steps are steep but there is a railing on each side so even my 74-year-old mother was able to go up without a problem.
We loved walking to breakfast and shopping, and found the town to be incredibly charming. We had the best time! Highly recommend!

Lovely house with spacious living room and master bedroom. A charming older house, but freshly renovated with central air, clean, well-appointed, beautiful patio and garden area. Walk to Bearskin Neck and Front Beach. Easy parking and location. Very comfortable for 5 of us.

This house is adorable, cozy and comfortable, and filled with multigenerational family history and memories. We truly felt like we were locals who lived in this home for the week. We had everything we needed. We made use of the bikes provided and there were also nice beach chairs, towels, and other recreational items for guest use. Karen was easy to communicate with and answered my questions promptly. We absolutely loved our week in Rockport and our stay in this very special, charming home.

Four adults were comfortable and enjoyed this unique property. Cute house, just a few minutes’ walk to the harbor, shops, and restaurants of this charming seacoast village. We recommend seeing a show at Shalin Liu if you can; a highlight!
Just walking around Rockport is fun.
We forgot to order sunshine, but made the best of four rainy days. Recommended if you like old houses and family history.

Wonderful cottage in great location. We enjoyed seeing the historical references around the house, including the original cost of building the house. Walk to town was very easy. Loved the murals. House is extremely clean.

We had a fantastic time at this property. The house was cute, historic, and filled with personal history. It was short walk to downtown Rockport, the piers, and Bearskin Neck. In addition, the property manager Rachael was amazing and super nice. We had a problem with the TV, and she came over during a middle of storm to help us fix it! We had a perfect stay at this house, and we would most definitely stay here again.

We spent the week in this beautiful cozy cottage in Rockport Massachusetts. Couldn’t of been a better place to be while we visited the area. We were able to Uber into Salem into Boston it was an all-around great experience. Would highly recommend this cozy cottage to anyone.

My mom, my aunt, and I so enjoyed staying at this lovely historic home in Rockport! We visited Boston and Salem, but Rockport is a great destination all on its own, with cute shops and delicious restaurants. This home situated in a quaint seaside village is welcoming and comfortable after a long day of exploring and shopping!

Adorable little house in Rockport
Such a sweet little house in Rockport. We enjoyed our stay in the house and the area is gorgeous. Just a short little walk into town with its fabulous views. There are plenty of shopping and restaurants to choose from. The house had everything we needed and all the little mementos are a special touch. I would definitely stay here again. Peace and Tranquility
I was in town to clear our my parents' home and prepare it for sale. It was an exhausting process. Each night, I was able to retreat to this beautiful and comfortable home. I loved all the personal touches that have been added to this historic home. I hope to come back to vacation some day.

Historic home
We totally enjoyed our stay. The home is lovely with constant reminders of the history of the area. Beautiful photographs, paintings and drawings adorn the walls. Karen is lovely to work with. The stairs are steep and challenging and the kitchen is small and does not accommodate gourmet cooking. The house is old, but has many updated features. We stayed month and, for us, it felt like a spiritual retreat.

Lovely house and excellent location
We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely historical house. Everything was clean, the rooms were comfortable and sunny, and there was plenty of space for our group. As other reviews mention, the kitchen is small, but we prepared many meals in there, and it is well stocked with pots and pans and utensils. The stairs are indeed steep, but the 5 year old and 75 year old in our group managed just fine! We loved being able to walk to downtown Rockport, to some of the small beaches, and to the park and playground. We'd definitely stay here again!

Peaceful, beautiful getaway
This house is wonderful. It is exactly as described. We were always discovering something new in all the little touches added to the house decor. Frogs on windowsills, cats hanging from door frames, and of course the murals. The beds were very good and the shower is excellent. The kitchen is adequate. As stated it is a galley kitchen so don't expect more. The stairs are quite steep and take a little getting used to. I generally came down in the morning and did not go up again till bedtime. Thanks to New England weather we were able to test both the ac and heating. Both worked well. The patio and garden outside are very comfortable with more of the delightful little decorating touches that hide in the bushes. I highly recommend this home to anyone. It was just what my family needed to reconnect and heal from the loss of a loved one during the pandemic.

Excellent family vacation
Beautiful house with enough space for 4 even 5 people. Cosy ambiance and nice garden. Location is excellent: quiet while close enough to historical center and beaches (10/15 minutes walk max). The only room for improvement is the kitchen equipment, essential is here but kitchen is tiny and not the best equipment we have seen so far. Otherwise, the house comes with almost everything you need (from outdoor equipment to beach towels...) and the owner was so easy to communicate with on checking in/out and answering questions. The asking price is good compared to other options. Very thankful to have found this place!

Cottage
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely and very clean cottage. The master bedroom is large and has a beautiful vanity to get ready at. We were there for a week-long wedding celebration. We will remember the cottage by all of the "fairy" and "mermaid" decorations that were so beautifully displayed and all of the family antiques. The wall murals were beautiful works of art as well. We would recommend staying at this very clean, exactly as described and shown in pictures, 3 bedroom cottage. Thank you Karen for the quick communication.

What a gem!
Lovely home and pretty small yard filled with treasures. Home was very clean and Karen was a communicative, helpful host! So happy to live in MA where everyone was masked in Rockport and social distancing was enforced well. We enjoyed seafood and beach time!

Adorable house and town RICH in history!
Karen and her family have maintained a beautiful piece of history in Rockport. The house is warm, inviting, and comforting. Everything was squeaky clean and fresh. We were there during the week of Halloween and had to use the heater, which was amazing because we are from south east Texas and don't do cold weather very well. You will sleep like a baby and there are plenty of extra blankets and pillows. Karen and her local property manager, Rachel are very accessible and responsive if you have any issues or questions. The only slightly negative thing about the house is the stairs. They are very steep and not good for those who have ambulatory/balance issues. Visiting this part of the country for the first time, we realized that steep stairs are common in houses of that age. Yes carrying luggage up them was not fun, but you only have to do it once... Coming down with your luggage is much easier!
We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend you book Karen's home!
Don't forget to go out to the garden and visit the fairies!

Clean, Complete, and Comfortable
Four of us (in our mid-to-late 60s) stayed for several days at this property and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
Yes, the stairs to the upstairs and to the basement are steep and a little cramped. If you have mobility issues, this might be problematic. However, there are ample railings and with a mindful approach to ascending and descending, the stairs are certainly manageable.
Some commenters have mentioned the AC. We were in Rockport in mid-August. It was hot and humid. The AC worked very well, both during the day and at night, when it was especially welcome.
And, yes, the kitchen is a little small by 21st century standards. However, there was room for two people, whether they were preparing a meal or washing and drying the dishes. The entire house is modest in size - very much in keeping with its construction date of 1876.
That being said, the house (layout, floor plan, number of rooms) is very comfortable. We prepared several meals, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The living room was comfortable for conversing. However, having brighter lamps would have made nighttime reading a little easier The dining room, including table and chairs, accommodated us very well. The neighborhood was calm and quiet.
What made this visit especially interesting was a 200+-page memoir written by the owner’s father (we found it in a glass-front cupboard in a corner of the dining room) recounting his boyhood years (ages 5-15) in the home, 1922 - 1932. In this memoir he describes in wonderful detail a wide array of topics from his boyhood: clothing, food, daily routines, local neighbors and town “characters,” medicine, education, religion, games and recreation, family members, etc. He was a cultural anthropologist by training and profession, and it showed in his writing. He even included the original floor plan of the 1876 house, along with its current floor plan. It was fun to compare what the house looks like now with its original form. Sitting there reading all 200+ pages in the very house, in the very neighborhood and village where this man grew up was absolutely fascinating. History the way it should be written.
Overall, it was a very comfortable home. Everything we needed and wanted for our stay was available. And, it’s just an easy 10-minute walk to the downtown area of Rockport. We are pleased to recommend it.

Cozy home in a perfect location!
With our second visit to this cozy home behind us, we can honestly say it lived up to the great memories of the first visit, two years ago. We have a family of five and it can be difficult to find affordability and comfort in the same location. The home is lovingly cared for, with historic charm, mermaids, fairies and a sweet garden and patio.
This home is walking distance to Rockport's shopping, dining and beaches, so you can leave the car behind. We also walked to the train and enjoyed a day in Boston. Gloucester's beaches, whale watches and fishing charters are just a quick drive.
With such a cozy house in a great location, you can't go wrong. Looking forward to figuring out the next return trip!

Very cute quaint and cozy
The kitchen was really too small to cook in which was great, then I had an excuse not to cook. The traffic on the street in the morning was pretty noisy. Other than that it was great.

Beautiful backyard
Loved having meals outside on the patio. A few observations: not a place for seniors or people with sore knees. The stairs to the second floor are very steep. The bedroom on the first floor could use a new mattress. We had some problems regulating the ac. To cool the upstairs adequately , the downstairs bedroom was very cold. Having lived in Rockport for years we were looking forward to open windows and the cool air....unfortunately we hit a hot spell.
Since we were staying 2 weeks we would have liked more (and fluffier) towels.
Found the Mile Marker restaurant in Gloucester great for lobster rolls, and the new Beauport hotel good for lunch.

We are a family of four (two young adults and parents). Home was well maintained, clean, and cozy. Nice patio and side yard. Short, enjoyable walk to town.
