About this house rental
Tucked in the trees on a ledge overlooking McCauley Pond this lovely log sided home is ready for your perfect vacation. This non motorized pond is locally known as a productive spot to fish for pike, perch as well as large and small mouth bass and other species of fish. You may fish off the private dock or use the supplied canoe or row boat. It is always fun to stop on the island or just float around. Please be aware it's a short walk down some steps through the woods to reach the pond.
The house is very secluded with tons of privacy. There are only 3 or 4 houses on the pond and none are visible from the house. You can’t see or hear the road from the house. Several trails wind through the woods for short walks around the property. Just walking the well maintained driveway up to the road is a nice walk. If you prefer longer hikes you are not far from the ‘Saranac 6’ or the 46 High Peaks. The Visitor’s Interpretive Center at Paul Smith’s, about 10 minutes away, has many wide well maintained trails, programs and a butterfly house in season. There is also park land all around with countless trails.
Activities abound in the area. We are located close to the Saranac chain of lakes with several public boat launches. A 30 minute drive will bring you to Tupper Lake well known for the Adirondack Wild Center and its just opened elevated ‘Wild Walk’. You can also keep travelling to my favorite, the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. Of course you must visit the village of Saranac Lake, ‘Capital of the Adirondacks’ and Lake Placid, home of 1932 and 1980 winter Olympics, to take advantage of the shops and restaurants. Minutes away, you will find Saranac Inn's golf course. Just started is a railroad bike trip that allows you to pedal a special bike on a RR track through the woods and past lakes and ponds(one being the pond our house is located on.)
The house itself is large, surrounded by deck on three sides, one covered, so you can enjoy the outdoors and the gas grill even if it’s raining.
The great room boasts a fireplace, piano, and large south facing windows looking out to the pond. In the great room is a couch with a pull out bed and also a futon. The first main floor bedroom features a queen sized bed, twin bed, and ensuite bathroom with a shower. The second main floor bed room has a queen sized bed and attached bathroom with tub/shower. Both main floor bedrooms have private entrances to the wrap around deck.
The master suite, on the upper floor, has a king sized bed and a loft overlooking the great room. On the loft is a pull out sleeper couch. The master suite has a private balcony. The master bathroom has a large shower and Jaccuzi tub with windows facing the woods.
The kitchen is well equipped with a large refrigerator, through door ice and water, dual fuels stove, dishwasher, and 2 microwaves. Small appliances include coffee maker, waffle iron, blender, crock pot, toaster and toaster oven. Plenty of cooking utensils are supplied as well as a full set of dishes and silver ware. The dining room table seats 10 or there are 2 picnic tables on the pond side deck and one on the covered deck not to mention 4 stools at the kitchen island.
The large well lit downstairs is a work in progress. Be careful around the building supplies and equipment but feel free to enjoy a game of pool on the 8’ x 4’ slate pool table. Paddles and oars are kept by the door that leads to path down to the pond.
On those hopefully rare indoor days checkout the entertainment center in the great room. It’s equipped with cable TV, DVDs, puzzles and games for all ages.
Winter brings many other activities for you enjoyment. You can ice fish out on the pond. Snowmobile trails are located nearby. Opportunities for cross country skiing and snow showing abound. Whiteface ski area is about 45 minutes away, the local Mount Pisgah and Big Tupper ski areas are closer and more accessible. Afterwards return home for a soak in the Jacuzzi or relax in front of the fireplace.
All in all we hope you enjoy your stay in a most beautiful area nature has to offer. Do as much or as little as you like, it’s your vacation!

Great family vacation to celebrate our daughters wedding in the ADK. Beautiful home. Large spacious bedrooms. Great floor plan that accommodates large groups as well as privacy. Very clean and loved the large kitchen island. Loved the lake and listening to the loons everyday

Very large and beautifully built house. Modern appliances in good order; there is even a piano that we enjoyed. Comfortable and spacious master suite. Overall, we had a great time! Thank you!
Suggestions for improvement: (1) The dock is not equipped for swimming. One has to wade through muddy bottom. We suggest installing longer dock with a ladder at the end to make entering water more pleasant. (2) There is no view of the lake as it is covered by trees. We suggest clearing out deciduous trees between the house and the lake to open up the view. (3) Request to remove bedding and start laundry before departure is unusual for a house at this price point.

Chris and Betsy were extraordinary hosts, incredibly responsive, and extremely helpful with any/all questions about the area. The house is perfectly appointed, private, and ideal for friends and family gatherings. The lake is spectacular - rain or shine, we absolutely loved this spot. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

Beautifull spacious log cabin home. Booking went smoothly. Used the kayaks and fished everyday. Caught some small perch. My favorite was listening to the breeze rustle through the trees while relaxing on the huge deck.

Everyone relaxes the minute we drive down the driveway. Already getting dates for next summer. The hosts are amazing and very responsive. Left my pillow and they even mailed it back to me. They treat us like family. Cannot recommend this cabin enough.

This property is perfect for a family getaway! The communication with the host was great and checking in was super easy, he even let us check in a few hours early. The property far exceeded all expectations and the pictures did not do it justice! The property is well maintained and the home was spotless! Should be noted that the home kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed for our stay! There is a well maintained trail down to the dock, which had a canoe, kayaks, and a paddle boat! We used all of them and had a blast! They have tons of life jackets available and fishing poles for use too! The lake is gorgeous and is only shared with a few very distant homes, so it feels like you have it all to yourself! The basement was also fun with foosball and pool! We also enjoyed the wrap around patio and all of the seating! The piano upstairs was fun to play too! Highly recommend to any family - we had 6 people but it could definitely sleep up to 10 comfortably! We loved our stay and will definitely be back! Also not far from Saranac and Lake Placid which was great! Definitely a gem, you won’t be disappointed!

Secluded, magnificent log cabin on a quiet pond with no one else around! Cabin is well stocked with everything you could ever want or need for a vacation. Location is private and perfect for a get away if you are actually really looking to GET AWAY! Communication with the host is excellent. This was our second visit and we will be back for a third!

We love this home so much! Always leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Perfect mix of luxury amenities and rustic charm set amongst the tree tops… and the pond is the icing on the cake! We will be back!

My family stayed at this Adirondack cabin July 1-8. We found it to be one of the nicest VRBO rentals we have used for a vacation. The cabin is beautiful, spacious, and comfortable and easily accommodated six adults. It was close to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, but secluded and peaceful. The bedrooms each had its own bathroom, the kitchen was well equipped, and the deck had more than enough space for activities under cover and open. The water was a short walk away with a dock and kayaks, canoe, and a rowboat available for use. Fishing was great! For those times we couldn’t be outdoors due to rainy weather, there were board games, jigsaw puzzles, books to read, and TV. Our favorite indoor activity was the pool table in the basement along with the best album collection ever! The only down side was that we had to leave after a week, but hope to return soon!

This was our 3rd stay in the cabin and once again it did not disappoint. The weather was calling for rain all week but as they say up here, "just wait 5 minutes and it will change." We hiked every day, fished the pond, canoed, kayaked and relaxed. A few jaunts into LP and before we knew it the week was done. Already planning for next year.

This was the second time we stayed here! Chris allowed us to arrive earlier to check in - which worked out great for us since I was traveling with my family (husband, four girls ages 6, 4, 4 and 5 months) and my brother and sister in law along with our dogs.
As soon as we walked in the door - it was like coming home- the log cabin is BIG, but they manage to make it feel so cozy. Everything we needed was there! We LOVE the heated floors and the fireplace!! Despite an unseasonably warmer week, we still managed to go sledding one day on the driveway, explore down near the lake, take the horse drawn sleigh ride at Lake clear Inn, and make our annual visit to downtown Placid (20 min drive) and the brewery! All this whole coming back to home base! We’re so grateful for Chris and his family to share their beautiful home!

It’s the most perfect retreat! We have now stayed here two years in a row. The hosts are wonderful—flexible, gracious and respond so quickly when we have questions. It’s so private, the driveway itself is a wonderful walk in the wintertime. We ice fish and then come right back into a warm cozy huge cabin. Just love it here.

This property is a gem. The pictures don’t do it justice! Property owners are quick to respond to any questions which is super helpful when planning a trip. The property is secluded and private and the pond is so clean and great for swimming and Kayaking. The loons were my best friends and I took tons of photos of them and other wildlife. Could not have asked for a better ADK Vacation’

Quite, peaceful, relaxing, comfortable, clean...we could go on and on about this secret oasis in the woods. What a wonderful final family vacation before we become official empty nesters. Plenty of privacy for everyone to spread out and the house came with every possible amenity you could need. Just a terrific home! My 18 year old especially appreciated the epic record collection!! Thank you for sharing it with us!

The house was amazing! Spacious, open and the dining table big enough for the entire family to enjoy dinner or games. The wrap around porch was perfect with the covered portions during a rainy day of card games. It’s was also nice for just about every room to open to the porch or a private bath. Only downside was the distance to the water, tough for older adults to get down to, other than that the location is good, within distance of Lake Clear beach, the VIC at Paul Smiths and towns of Saranac, Lake Placid, and Tupper Lake. Overall my family and I were very happy with the property and thank you for such a memorable vacation.

A great place to “Get AWAY” with the family.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. The house is spectacular. The great room allowed our grandson plenty of play space. The covered deck ended up being one of the families favorite gathering spaces for the evening hours. The “Pond” was Amazing- I can’t believe they call it a pond. It’s HUGE! We enjoyed the morning- afternoon and evening row boat, canoe and kayak rides. This property offers so much and gives you that in the woods feel while at the same time you are just a few miles from civilization and some amazing attractions.
Saranac lake and lake placid are just a short dive away.
We will definitely be coming back in the future.

ADK never disappoints!!
Another fabulous stay in the secluded log cabin in the woods. Perfect distance away from the crowds yet close to all the amazing hikes, golf courses and Lake Placid. Chris is always a pleasure to deal with and we have already booked again for next year. Perfect way for our family to kick off summer.

Decked out on the Pond
This is a perfect place to relax both indoors and out. Only non-motorized watercraft is allowed on the scenic pond which is a short walk down a nice path from the rental home. The wrap around deck with both open and covered sections is perfect to accommodate changes in the weather. The home is stunning and extremely roomy. We even enjoyed some pool and foosball in the basement rec area. The owners respond quickly with any needed clarification. Great place!!!

Beautiful Place to Comfortably Enjoy the Outdoors
Amazing property with a long driveway - leaving you feeling like you truly are out in nature. The pond had amazing fishing for bass and pike. Boats were provided and that was awesome. The dogs thoroughly enjoyed the property and we did not have to worry about them bother any neighbors. The inside was nice and spacious with a beautiful kitchen. Much of our time was spent out on the beautiful wrap around deck. This property is absolutely amazing for a larger group/family get away. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

Quiet Paradise
I can't say enough great things about this property. Booking was quick and easy-and we submitted a fairly last minute request. The pictures don't do the property justice. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax, but still have outdoor activities, this is the place.
The inside was beautiful and very clean. I feel like the owners thought of everything-menus, first aid kit-you name it. It was a great location for my husband, myself, and our two dogs. There was plenty to do outside in the snow with them, and the long driveway was perfect for getting in our regular walks. My husband and I brought our snowshoes, so we were able to explore in the woods with the pups as well. We always bring our dog crates when we travel, and the layout of the home was perfect for setting those up. I can't tell you how much I appreciate a clean, well kept, dog friendly home where my dogs actually feel comfortable!
We booked this house primarily just to relax and get back into nature, and we were definitely able to do that. The quiet was perfect-we didn't see anyone-and that was exactly what we needed after the crazy holidays!
We can't wait to come back in the future-we are already trying to figure out dates!

WOW!
What a lovely Thanksgiving at this house! We cooked a large meal and had everything we needed. This is the second time we have all gathered at a house away from home for Thanksgiving and we expected to have to bring some extras from home for preparing dinner. Not so at this house! The only thing we really needed was a stand mixer (which we brought). Other than that, this house has it all. There was more than enough room to spread out for 6 adults and 3 dogs. My sons brought mountain bikes and got several nice long rides while we were there. Several hikes in the beautiful snow happened too! The pond was lovely to look at – it froze over the first night we were there. It was moving when we got there and not when we woke up! One of the dogs had a very chilly swim as he tested the thin ice on the pond. The heated floors and the wood burning fireplace were certainly a plus as the weather was very cold. Chris was fabulous to work with – very responsive! This house was absolutely the best we have ever rented (and I have rented many all over!). I can only imagine how lovely it would be there in summer and fall. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful property with us!

Summer of 2021
We absolutely loved the setting and it’s privacy. Most days we were the only one on the pond. The location is close to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid and a great springboard to the St. Regis area for camping and hiking. The home has everything you need- truly it is fully stocked. We loved the place also because it was dog friendly. Our Golden loved swimming in the pond. Great spot!

End of summer Adirondack vacation
We had an end of summer family vacation ages 12-69! Had a great time row boating, kayaking, fishing and hiking g with the family dogs. House was perfect even in the short rain showers we could enjoy the covered deck. House was all it said and more! Perfect end of summer!

Amazing Location
My friends and I (six adults) had a wonderful time here. Not only is the house beautiful and set up with everything you need for a care free stay, the property is lovely with plenty of privacy and a truly private pond. We made use of the boats and other amenities provided and had an overall amazing time. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to get away in the high peaks region. There are plenty of hikes within a one hour drive and other attractions in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid nearby. We do a trip in the Adirondacks every year and have stayed at a ton of rental properties but this one is up there for one of the best properties we've stayed at. Highly Recommend.

Magical place in the Adirondacks
This is the second summer we have stayed at Chris & Betsy's magical home on McCauley Pond. After a family trip there last summer, we knew we had to return. This is the most wonderful home you can imagine. The house is gorgeous, extremely comfortable, immaculate, and incredibly well stocked. The pond is beautiful and we enjoyed canoeing, kayaking, swimming, and most importantly watching the loon family. Chris & Betsy are extremely responsive and wonderful hosts. We have stayed in many other rental locations over the years and this one is without parallel. Thank you for another wonderful family vacation -- it was a bright spot during what remains difficult times.

Fist time in ADK over the summer
We had been to Lake Placid many times in the winter but this was our first summer trip. This log cabin did not disappoint. Our 3 boys ages, 14, 18 & 20 loved the easy access to the "pond" which was more like a lake. The fishing was amazing. The house was so comfortable and had everything we needed. It was clean as can be with a fully stocked kitchen. Not having to make beds and bring towels was an absolute plus. Needless to say we will book with Chris again.
