About this cottage rental
Loon's Nest was recently purchased in the spring of 2017 and renovated to be family friendly, open, and comfortable! It's a great cottage for a family or couple to enjoy the lake and all it has to offer!
We purchased and renovated our first house on Norcross Pond in 2016 (a 3BR+ down the lake - VRBO#886930) and were so excited when this smaller camp came up for sale on the same lake in 2017! We spent the spring of 2017 renovating and had a full house of guests all summer and fall! We hope you enjoy sharing our Maine getaway. You can see some of the renovation and lake photos on Instagram @LoonsNestMaine
House: The main living and gathering space is on the upper floor (kitchen, dining, living room with pull out sectional, and full bathroom), downstairs is one bedroom (queen bed, pull out full size sofa bed, and desk). Bedroom also has room for a pack and play (available upon request). Both levels have huge windows that overlook the lake and the new deck. There is a full kitchen equipped for cooking and a vintage oven and cooktop that you're sure to enjoy! The house has a re-built deck, morning coffee area off the front of the house, and a "happy hour" deck down towards the beach. There is a small front patio (non-lake side) with a charcoal grill and seating area as well. Also, if you're coming with little ones, there is plenty of baby/toddler gear available if needed (high chair, pack and play, books, crayons, paper, games, toys, kids plates/cups/bowls/etc).
Lakefront and Lake Description: Stairs lead from the house to a private beach area
with dock, canoe, and paddle boat available for use (included). Norcross Pond is one mile long with camps and homes along one side only – keeping the lake quiet. Water is clear and the lake has a sandy bottom for great swimming. Speed boats, pontoon boats, and jet skis are allowed, but since the lake is small you don't gets boats out all day. A boat ramp is available if you want to bring your own boat to park at the dock (note, the boat ramp is dirt and steep). The lake is full of bass, perch, and stocked with trout, so bring your fishing rods no matter what season you visit. There are also nearby places for blueberry picking, hiking, movies, ice cream, restaurants, etc. The lake is amazing for fall foliage and is in close proximity to Mount Blue, Tumbledown, and Other hiking mountains for fall.
Local Things to Do: hiking, blueberry/strawberry/apple picking, movie theater, ice cream, lobsters, restaurants, markets, festivals, fair, antique shops, biking, breakfast at the Post Office Café (a must!), skiing, snowmobiling, and more.
Nearby Excursions: Farmington, Belgrade Lakes, Mount Blue, multiple ski mountains, Sandy River Railroad, DEW Animal Farm, Norlands Living History Center, Golf (Turner Highlands, Sandy River, Wilson Lake, and others), U Maine Farmington events, and more. Lots of excursions (hiking, skiing, ocean, and more) within 1-2 hours - Maine coastal towns (Camden, Rockport), Rangeley and Saddleback Mtn, Sugarloaf, Bethel/Sunday River Mtn, and more.

The cottage provided everything we needed for our stay. It's clean and comfortable. The views from living room and bedroom were beautiful! We enjoyed swimming, boating and fishing! Highly recommended for families with kids who love water activities.

Hot weather in a cabin with no window A/C is a challenge. Wish the large downstairs bedroom windows opened. Lack of potable well water was a surprise. Very busy road with tight shoulder parking across from cabin entrance.

The pond had a pair of Loons, which made the trip amazing! Boating and laying on rafts was so nice; clean warm water.
It’s on a main road where vehicles are going way too fast much of the day, including tractor trailers, which really took away from how peaceful it could have been. The stairs from the bedroom to bathroom are also very loud when using them during night.
We had a great time, but it’s important to note that it’s pretty rustic, has an incredible climb up and down to the lake and the deck furniture was covered in pine sap, so really not usable. It’s not for folks who like luxury. The host was slow to respond and never got back to us on a question asked mid week, via text.

Had a great tìme. Had everything we needed for the week...even coffee! The week was brutally hot..would have benefited from AC. (Only reason we probably wont be back) The lake bottom was mucky, but water shoes solved the problem (for the adults anyway) overall, a great time...beautiful view. Very quiet (except for one morning when a neighbor was screaming at the the top of his lungs which was scary) only lasted a few minutes.

Quiet, comfortable and quaint. Great location to experience day trips throughout the state or just to spend the day unwinding

Such a cute little cabin perched on the shore of the pond. It’s been remodeled for modern comfort (including the best ever shower in a camp!) while keeping lots of retro cabin feel. And the views from both levels are amazing, like being in a treehouse! We stayed here while visiting Manchester for a Maine Cabin Masters lobster bake, it was a perfect location, a nice country drive about 25 minutes away. We really appreciated being able to bring our young Lab, who had a blast diving off the dock and swimming in the pond. If you’re bringing a dog who isn’t a swimmer, there’s no real yard for exercise and the “relief” area is the parking area across a fairly busy road. The steps to get into the cabin and down to the lake are very steep, but new and very safe with sturdy handrails. Communication with the owner was excellent, wi-fi and TV worked well. We had everything we needed in the kitchen and plenty of blankets, etc. to enjoy our short stay. Highly recommended!

So beautiful on the pond, loved fishing, canoeing and listening to the Loons. Great spot to get away from it all.

Fantastic house perfect for a relaxing getaway! Everything is updated and clean, filled with charm and all you need. It's located on a beautiful lake with a fantastic dock and bonus pedal boat and canoe. Laurie was also very kind and a pleasure to communicate with. She provides a lot of useful information upon booking and at the house about the cute surrounding areas which is great :) We would definitely recommend!

We enjoyed our first trip to Maine staying in Loon’s Nest. Fishing is great and the boats add to the lake enjoyment. Loons on the lake each day added to the beautiful, peaceful views.

Had a great time at the lake , good kayaking and boating, did some fishing. The kid's loved the water.it's a very quiet pond, just what we wanted. No beach because of the high water but otherwise fabulous.

Wonderful location. First time in Maine. Really enjoyed the camp, the location on the lake, and access to the canoe. If you want a true Maine camp experience, this was perfect. Early June was a perfect time to visit with cooler temps and less people. Laurie and Ian were wonderful in describing the location and being accessible by text to help with last minute questions. Highly recommend this property and a visit to the Chesterville Corner Store where they will treat you like a local. Perfect stay for our first trip to Maine and our 30th Anniversary. Thank you again.

My wife and I had a very relaxing and comfortable stay at Loon’s Nest cottage. Nice location a short drive from Farmington’s stores and restaurants. All utensils for cooking in are there. The layout provides nice views of the pond from both levels. A pair of Loon’s was on the pond every day. Nice dock with a canoe and paddle boat. Weather wasn’t the best but I caught bass from the dock and when I took the canoe out, more bass and a nice brook trout. Plenty of outdoor seating for relaxing. Excellent communication with Laurie. Kept us informed up to and during our stay. If you like antiquing there are many stores a short drive away. We would love to return at some point.

This place is exactly as they advertise! Cute, little camp, great views, local to some great stuff a short drive away. Clean, quiet, it was perfect! They left clear instructions on how to watch tv, or using other items, Left some orange out to walk around the pond (during hunting season).
They do have a water fountain with drinkable water, but my only add would be to bring condiments, they don’t have any in the fridge.
Overall a great stay! We will be back!

Very nice cabin with everything you need. Loved sitting on the deck with morning coffee and enjoying the autumn colored trees reflecting in the blue pond. Laurie was very responsive and friendly. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. I felt like I had lived there my entire life. Will definitely be back!

Spent a week at Loon’s Nest for my honeymoon and it was amazing! We had a few days of cold, rain, and wind, but that didn’t stop us! We were able to explore so many places nearby. Laurie was very responsive and helpful, and the cabin had everything we needed. It was exactly what I had hoped for. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us!

Really great location, Fall hit overnight when we arrived but we were still able to get out on the water for some sun and fishing. Went to the Cooper Rd trail access and walked that a little ways. Very dog friendly location, the Corner Store was the best go to for food, would love to go back again!

Lovely little cabin, beautiful lake, great for a couple
We loved our stay. Two small tweaks would have made it perfect. Front seat in the canoe needs repair! Also, hard to fish well from a boat without an anchor. Everything else was wonderful.

Wonderful views!
The multi level house gives so many wonderful views of nature and the water that I chose to sit and take them n at all different angles. The cabin is very spacious and clean. Lots of birds to captivate one's attention outside. Water front is well stocked with equipment to explore and enjoy the lake.. Great neighbors.

Loons nest
Beautiful quaint rustic cabin overlooking NorCross pond. Netflix did not work the entire time that we were there but you’re on a pond so Internet is going to be spotty. Good cell service on the property. However we had no issues using the Internet for our laptop. The property sits at a pretty steep slope was the only drawback, however the view is beautiful from the living room overlooking the beautiful, peaceful lake. We would definitely stay there again. We do recommend this place.

We will DEFINITELY stay here again.
Absolutely beautiful rental house. Exceeded our expectations. It has everything we needed and a few more. Definitely take the advice and bring slippers. It isn’t heated but has many space heaters that keep toasty warm. View of the water at sunset is the most peaceful part. The corner store has everything you need. Communication with the owner is great, they responded ASAP when I had a question. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Weekend
What a refreshing, relaxing, peaceful, perfect little spot. The cabin has everything you need. There's a gorgeous deck with comfy chairs, a cute little lookout spot with Adirondack chairs, chairs on the beach and a bench on the dock. The views are endless. House is clean, owners were great to speak with. Egg sandwiches from the Corner Store are a must. Perfect, perfect.

Epic!
The property was exactly as advertised. The area is quiet, with only one side of Norcross Pond having residences, the other side is a nature preserve. The owners are wonderful people, very prompt with their responses. Recommend the grilled cheese sandwiches at the Chesterville Corner Store.

Relaxing
The Loon's Nest is a great place to unwind. Be prepared for stairs to the water but it is well worth the exercise.

Great little cottage on the lake
It is perfect for a couples getaway. You are right on a clean, small lake, very quiet. A pontoon boat every now and then. Has a nice beach area, and plenty of seating options on their decks and beach. Great to have the canoe and paddleboat to play around in. The Cottage itself is rustic and simply furnished with everything you need. Only thing we did not realize was that the cottage was very close to the road and with the windows open, there can be a good amount of road noise. Would stay again in a heartbeat though!

Great retreat from the city
I was looking for a secluded place outside of Boston to whisk my dog away from the constant fireworks leading up to the 4th. I had a great time working remotely from this cabin and spending my mornings and evenings enjoying the lake. Easy enough to have some friends come to join for a few days and close enough hiking trails to keep pup and I active.

Perfect!
The cabin was exactly as advertised. The amenities were very well thought out, right down to the little welcome gift on the kitchen table (nice touch). Everything, dishes, furniture, linens were very clean (didn't need to use paper plates, plastic cutlery etc. that we brought with us). Plenty of supplies like toilet paper and lifejackets for all 5 of us. We loved it so much, we booked another visit while still there! Could not have asked for more!

The lake house is small but quaint. Great selection of movies to watch and the lake was nice to jump and swim in.

Great Getaway
My son just graduated from the University of Maine. We had a wonderful getaway. Enjoyed the lake house. Well furnished. Great views. Did lots of fishing from the canoe. Caught six fish.

Perfect place to unplug
Perfect little place to unplug for a long weekend. Right on the edge of a lake and plenty to do in the surrounding area. We will definitely be back in the future.
