Fantastic location in a vibrant and charming neighborhood, great for families and groups. Spacious, comfortable accommodations with attentive and responsive host. Will definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed the property for the convenience, cleanliness, affordability, great WiFi access. Nothing but good things to say about our stay!

A lovely place in a AMAZING neighborhood. Two very large BR's (one with private bath, the other is right next to living room bath); and one very small BR with private bath. The two large BR's would be perfect for couples; the small BR was really too small for a couple to stay in comfortably. Host (Ricardo) was incredibly responsive and helpful to our needs. The apartment was very private and quiet except for when people in the downstairs unit were socializing outside on their patio (and when parades/celebrations were going on--but that's anywhere in Oaxaca!!) Patio with table, chairs, and hammock is private and doesn't have much of a view. Would TOTALLY stay here again!

We stayed in a group so rented the whole building of three apartments. It worked out well to know everyone staying there the beds were comfortable and Ricardo was very accommodating.

We stayed in this apartment as a family of 4 for 4 weeks. It was very comfortable and we loved the neighborhood. It was a bit of a hike with a 7 and 5 year old to walk to the historic center; but we could do it. Two great parks nearby. Friendly neighbors. Accommodating and available property manager. There are just a couple little things I would recommend improving for long stays 1) the stove wasn’t firing at full capacity on all the burners and we weren’t sure how to work the oven, or if it worked. 2) the screens doors didn’t move and were not sealed at the bottom - not ideal for mosquitos. I’m sure the property owner will update these items. We did not complain about them at the time. He was very responsive to our other requests.

The property was perfect. My family of 5 plus a baby really enjoyed it. It was spacious, has everything that you need. Like a refrigerator, a stove, microwave and provides with 5 gallons water bottles.

This excellent three-bedroom, three-bath home is, imo, the perfect place to stay when visiting Oaxaca. Located in the neighborhood of Jalatlaco, a colorful and funky barrio just a fifteen-minute walk to Centro and the Santo Domingo church, it was clean, spacious, attractive, comfortable, well laid out, and secure. A great base that is close to all that beautiful Oaxaca has to offer. Host Ricardo was easy to communicate with and attentive to every request. Full marks all around for a place I would certainly stay at again on my next trip to this amazing city.

The location in Jalatlaco was excellent. Easy to walk everywhere we needed to. The place was very clean with tastful art on the walls. The host was always responsive to every request for assistance. Recommending restaurants and even called a cab for us to go to airport. We would stay here again and recommend to friends as well.

We were 4 family members visiting Oaxaca for the first time. We were very pleased with the amenities of the property and the location in Jalatlaco was great with lots to do and see in the neighborhood. And a ten minute walk to el centro ( downtown). Would definitely stay here again. Ricardo was very attentive and met our needs promptly. Saludos !

Beautiful apartment in an amazing neighborhood
Our family of 5 traveled to Oaxaca to study Spanish for 2 weeks. This apartment was the perfect amount of space for us. It is close to many cafes and restaurants but the neighborhood is also super quiet for being so close to the center of the city. There is a lavanderia one block from the apartment and Mercado Merced is only a few blocks away for all your shopping needs. Ricardo was kind and available for anything we needed for the apartment. We would absolutely stay here again!

Fantastic
This lovely well appointed apartment in the Jalatlaco neighborhood was the perfect location to explore Oaxaca City. Plenty of room to accommodate three adults - each of the three bedrooms has access to a bathroom (two are en-suite). We preferred to be a little outside of, but close to, the city centro to avoid noise. The neighborhood is vibrant and charming. Lots of cute cafes, coffee shops etc. The uneven cobblestone streets require comfortable walking shoes so leave the heels at home but it’s an easy 10-15 minute walk to centro. The host Ricardo was easy to communicate with and everything went smoothly from check in to check out. Would highly recommend this apartment.

Perfect spot from which to explore
The apartment was quite comfortable and fairly well appointed. It was perfect for three or four people to use as a central hub for exploring the central area of the city. Everything was within reasonable walking distance. There were numerous restaurants and coffee/breakfast shops within a block ore two in any direction. The host was extremely responsive and helpful. It should be noted that there is no air conditioning and the apartment did get a bit warm at times despite all of the ceiling fans.

Great Lodging
The rental was very comfortable with plenty of room for everyone in our party.
The location is great.
Ricardo was quick to respond to any questions or issues we had.

Jalatlaco Getaway
I, my sister and my adult son stayed here for ten days. It was perfect. We each had our bedroom and bathroom. The location couldn’t be better. We quickly got to know our little neighborhood, Jalatlaco, and it’s an easy walk to El Centro. We’d definitely stay here again. The host, Ricardo, was very accommodating and helpful.

Perfect stay
My family and I had a wonderful stay at Casa del Barrio. Very well equipped home, perfect location short walk to Coffee shops, restaurants and shopping. Also have to mention our host Ricardo. Who is such a great host and quickly responded to our questions and concerns. Thank you Ricardo for a great vacation stay.

Family Thanksgiving in Oaxaca
We rented the entire building (all three units) for a family vacation. My 81 year old parents stayed in the ground floor unit with my adult children, my brother's family stayed in the middle unit with his teenage children and my wife and I took the top floor unit. Ricardo, who is very responsive, lent us a larger table which we used for a few dinners and game playing at night. We spent a lot of time on the top floor terrace in the afternoons and evenings. The location and neighborhood couldn't be better.

Great place and location!
My husband and I stayed with some friends for dia de muertos and thought this place was perfect! The location is absolutely great and convenient. Jalatlaco is so cute and vibrant. Ricardo was very communicative and helpful. We enjoyed our stay immensely!

Great location, fine place
You're unlikely to find a better place to stay in Oaxaca. We just finished a month in the apartment, our third time there, both alone and with other couples. The location in Jalatlaco is unbeatable, quiet (important in Oaxaca) and yet a very short walk to the center of the action, just six or seven minutes to Santo Domingo church. Ricardo, the owner, is extremely friendly and helpful; if there's any problem at all he shows up in a flash to take care of it. Best recommendation: we'll be staying there again in January '22.

Wonderful stay
The property is exactly as advertised. Ricardo was very quick to respond to all of my messages, questions, and requests. Jalatlaco is a lovely neighborhood; peaceful and beautiful, and about a 15 minute walk into El Centro. We really enjoyed our time, with our only regret being that it was too short.
We plan on visiting again to explore Oaxaca in more depth.

Just right
A friend and I had a very pleasant month-long stay at this property in the charming barrio of Jalatlaco. Aside from great location the complex was well managed with thorough weekly housekeeping and easy accessibility to the hosts if something something came up. Two of the bedrooms are roomy with comfy beds and ample storage. A third bedroom, which we didn’t use after a person in our group had to cancel, is a bit cramped but otherwise fine, with a private bath. The hammock on the patio was very relaxing. The well stocked kitchen was welcome for occasional meals in, making drinks, and for refrigerated items. Again, the location is primo with the ambience of a clean, safe, historically rich enclave within easy access to el centro and beyond. Thank you to the hosts for a very enjoyable stay.

Wonderful Experience
We stayed in Ricardo's 1 bed/1 bath and 3 bed/3bath and had an excellent time. My husband's family lives a few blocks away, so the location is perfect for us, but Jalatlaco is also a beautiful neighborhood and perfectly situated. The apartments were perfect for 5 18-21 year olds and my husband and I. They are comfortable, clean and equipped with what you need. Ricardo is an incredible host and is always extremely helpful. This is the second time we've stayed in his apartments and I have recommended them to many friends. We will be staying there whenever we visit Oaxaca!

Wonderful Oaxaca
This was our third year in Oaxaca.
Unfortunately, this trip was curtailed by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, we had a great time while we were there: studying Spanish, visiting new sites, trying new restaurants and being with our friends.
The apartment is perfectly located in the oldest Barrio in Oaxaca: very close to all the downtown amenities.
In the final days there, we were self isolating and very much appreciated the space and the kitchen: we ate a lot of meals at home. The Merced Market, nearby, was a Godsend.
Ricardo, our landlord, was readily available and always helpful and understanding.
His English is excellent.
We pray that this pandemic will resolve sooner, not later, so that we can return to this beautiful place in the world.
We also pray for the Mexican people: may they please have a gentle landing.
Hasta luego!

Oaxaca January 2020
This is a charming house in a beautiful and very central location in Oaxaca.
It’s proximity to the center of town as well as other neighbourhoods worthwhile visiting (such as: El Llano, Parque Ciudad De Las Canteras, Reforma and Mercado de la Merced) is certainly a plus.
The apartments are nicely built furnished and equipped. However, the Photograph of the courtyard needs to be updated. There is now a permanent cover built over the courtyard which (unfortunately) makes the yard some how dark.
We experienced a wonderful service and very prompt response when ever we contacted the property manager.
I certainly would come back to Cas del Barrio but would love to stay in the one-bedroom-top-floor, which has a beautiful and large terrace with a gorgeous view of the neighbourhood.

A wonderful place to enjoy Oaxaca
My two sons (10 and 13) , my husband and I spent 5 months in Oaxaca and chose Casa del Barrio to be our home for that time. We were really happy with our choice. The apartment fulfilled all our needs with plenty of space and privacy for each of us. Although there were other units on the site there was a lot of privacy and no disruptions. We particularly enjoyed the back patio that provided a private space with plenty of light and a patio set and hammock to relax. The kitchen was well equipped with pans and small appliances but perhaps it could have had some extra cooking utensils and plates but this is only a issue for those who will cook and eat more often at home. The location is great. Just a relatively short walk to Santo Domingo Church and Alcalá (the pedestrian street downtown) and close to the main arteries that allow you to connect to the bus transportation network.
We loved living in Jalatlaco. It's a very vibrant, picturesque, clean and safe neighbourhood with many amenities like cafes, restaurants, bakeries, markets, yoga studios, convenience stores, etc. (there's even an English library just beyond its boundaries). We enjoyed walking through its streets and looking at the murals and different decorations that the neighbours displayed according to the holiday.
Ricardo was an amazing host. Always fast responding to our requests or questions and willing to help. We also got to know part of his family who were also always nice and friendly.
We really enjoyed our time at Casa del Barrio and highly recommend it to anyone who is planning to visit Oaxaca.

Nice Apartment, Great Location
This is a spacious apartment with two large and one small bedrooms and three baths, one off the living room and two attached to bedrooms. All three bedrooms have ceiling fans and most of the windows and sliding doors are screened, which isn't that common in Oaxaca The kitchen is small but adequate. The neighborhood is fantastic, wonderfully charming and very close to everything there is to see and do. Ricardo is a very friendly and helpful man and responded immediately to our requests (e.g., extra pillows). We'd stay here again.

Great location, responsive host!
This is a very convenient apartment for exploring the city of Oaxaca. It's a 7-minute walk to the Mercado Merced, where you can get fabulous juices and food for breakfast or lunch; a lovely little cafe with food and American style coffee drinks is right around the corner; and the pedestrian Alcala for strolling, museums, and shopping is just a 15 minute walk, by a lovely park. Ricardo, the host, responded instantly to any requests and questions. A place definitely worth your consideration if you're staying in the city.

Wonderful
I absolutely loved my experience staying at Casa del Barrio. The apartment was perfect for me, my 3 year old and other guests that visited. I stayed for almost a month and felt comfortable, safe, and completely at home. The neighborhood is very charming and close enough to the center of town to walk back and forth. Ricardo and his family were very welcoming, accommodating and helpful. I didn't want to leave, and I will definitely be back.

The apartment was perfect for our family’s stay in Oaxaca. The location is wonderful, and just a short walk to the downtown and zocalo. The owner was helpful and friendly. Overall, it was comfortable, convenient, clean and quiet. Highly recommend!

Perfect setting in Oaxaca
This modern house is set in a gated courtyard: in the oldest barrio in Oaxaca. Our apartment was situated on the second floor. It was clean and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped. The patio was very private and shaded. Lots of good ventilation. Plenty of hot water. Comfortable beds.
Ricardo, the owner, lives on the first floor with his partner and son plus their 2 dogs. He was very attentive and helpful.
We are definitely planning to return.
Oaxaca is a wonderful rich city: the people, the culture, and of course the food. La Merced was our favourite market.

Nice place to call home
Second time staying at Casa del Barrio Jalatlaco. Wonderful home, spacious and clean.
Nice three bedroom 3 bath apartment in a wonderful neighborhood. Each time we have stayed for a month and it was easy to call this "home". Great neighborhood, many very good restaurants, very clean and safe. As two women staying there we wanted to be sure it was a safe neighborhood and we couldn't ask for more.
Ricardo and his wife were excellent hosts and were very receptive to our needs. Whenever something was needed, Ricardo provided it in a very short time. Ricardo took me to the Doctor one morning as I was too ill to deal with getting a taxi.
Taxi's were very easy to get near the house. Woman who did laundry was 100 yards away. There was something going on every weekend at the Church. Lending library and Llano Park 5-7 mins walk.
Highly recommend Casa del Barrio Jalatlaco.

A REAL GEM
Since 1976 I've been in love with Oaxaca. and stayed many places.
Ricardo and Uvia's collective is excellent for all the right reasons: cordiality, communication, location, safety, convenience, cleanliness, flexibility, design & layout, etc. The 2nd Fl. with 3 Bdrms & 3 baths is a rare find, while the spacious 3rd Fl. with King bed,1 1/2 baths and terrance, is a sweet set-up. Each unit has excellent storage and an equipped kitchen, dining and living room w/ TV & Music. We rented both floors and it worked well for adults & kids (7:2), with ample porches & alcoves to give everyone space. I sussed out a lot of places in Oaxaca last year and this was a good choice for this 2 week leg of our visit. We look forward to our return.

Walking distance to El Centro and Llano, Quiet safe street
Five of us stayed at Ricardo's condo during Guelaguetza Festival and it was perfect for our visit. Good value for the price. Close to Park Llano for the Mezcal event and a few blocks to El Centro. We walked everywhere. He was very response to any questions or requests and lives right downstairs. No on premises washer and dryer but you can walk about 50 yards down to Rosi's and she does it for you, same day pick up. Also there is a outdoor porch with small sink and clothesline. Things dry quickly, LOW humidity. If you stay here be sure to try Los Pilares for dinner or drinks - and LOVE COFFEE around the corner.

Good location, owner onsite
The apartment was well located on a quiet street in Jalatlaco. The owner lives downstairs and is available to respond to needs. 3 bedrooms and 3 baths. We were comfortable during our two week stay. Walkable everywhere in 15-20 min. and nice to return to this cozy neighborhood. Loved walking a block away to panaderia, restaurant, and cafes. Only downsides for us were: master bedroom doesn't have any natural light (except for front bedroom, generally dark inside apt.); the living room couch cushions were a bit worn. You can sleep 5 people here. Overhead fans are great for warm nights. Thank you Ricardo for all your help during our stay.
