About this lodge
Enjoy pure and simple comfort in this unique log structure built with gleaming ponderosa pine logs from Montana forests. Relax to the sounds of the legendary Gallatin River while resting in your log bed from an old Montana Ranch. We price our large capacity Lodge based on the number of people in your party so the cost is kept low for smaller groups. The rate calculator will automatically adjust the cost by $20/person per night if your group size is larger than the base occupancy rate.
Great river location - plenty of acreage, yard, river walks, fishing without having to leave the property. During spring runoff, typically 2-3 weeks in May or early June, the river comes up and fishing is limited and some of the walking trails are under water.
Lucky Dog Lodge is managed by Bozeman Cottage Vacation Rentals, a small homegrown Bozeman company with over 20 years of experience. For more reviews and information, including a self-guided 3D walkthrough, search the name of the house plus the words Bozeman Cottage.
The Lucky Dog Lodge is the perfect alternative to a full service guest lodge at roughly a tenth of the price. If your party has willing cooks, or an appetite for the many superb food services of the Gallatin Valley, then come enjoy all the privacy you want and all the space you need! The property is adjoined by family living on the river side of the Lodge and you will be overlooking their gardens and house from the upper decks of the Lodge - see the photo included in the listing. The owner lives just to the north across the yard and there are no other houses between the Lodge and the river. Across the street is a neighborhood that for all practical purposes disappears once you are at the Lodge. The photo showing the rooftop solar system gives a view of the general area.
The Lucky Dog is palatial comfort, pure and simple. This grand log structure, built with gleaming ponderosa pine logs from Montana forests, recalls the majestic natural beauty of the Rockies. As you enter, your eye is immediately drawn to the third floor balcony and the massive logs and ridge pole that dominate the interior. The fir tongue-and-groove ceiling is lit by myriad natural light sources. The open design and high ceilings create a spacious and airy feel. And as of 2018 we have a huge 8KW solar electric array to keep things green!
Radiant floor heating and thick log walls maintain a comfortable temperature year-round. Wood decks extend from the second and third floors, as well a large ground level deck, offering views of a number of famous mountain ranges and the Gallatin River. Relax to the rushing of the Gallatin in log beds, reclaimed from an old Montana ranch. Better yet, soak in the balcony hot tub overlooking the river as the sun sets behind the magnificent Spanish Peaks.
The great hall on the main floor harbors a fully equipped kitchen, complete with pine breakfast bar and a large dining area. The comfortable relaxing area is also perfect for family games or business retreat meetings.
Upstairs are two levels of living quarters: 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms supporting at least 15 guests (like anywhere, depends how close together they are willing to live and sleep). Regarding sleeping places, there are 3 queen beds, 6 x-long twins, 2 twins, 1 double, 3 floor pads (surprisingly comfortable, bring your own bedding). Mathematically that’s at least 20 persons but if you are bringing together a group of business associates they may not be comfortable sharing beds or bedrooms.
Lucky Dog Lodge 2nd floor has 4 bedrooms: 3 of those bedrooms have a queen size bed, 1 bedroom has two x-long twin beds
Lucky Dog Lodge 3rd floor has 2 large bedrooms: There are 4 x-long twin beds in one of those bedrooms, the other bedroom has 2 regular twins and a full size bed.
Extra sleeping options: we provide 3 high quality floor pads (3-section fold out upholstered pads), bring your own sleeping bags and/or bedding.
Location The Lucky Dog is located conveniently 20 minutes from the Bozeman airport and 12 minutes from Montana State University or the heart of Bozeman. Exercise and relaxation at the Bozeman Hot Springs is a short walk away, offering heated pools, a fitness center, and saunas. The small town of Four Corners is only 3 minutes away with food, supplies, fishing guides and equipment. Amazing hiking, rafting, skiing, horseback riding, and golf destinations are within an half an hour in almost any direction from the Lodge. Yellowstone National Park is a gorgeous 1.5 hour drive south.
Besides the ability to fish the legendary Gallatin from your back yard, fishing spots along the Missouri, Yellowstone, Madison, and their countless tributaries are all within a short drive from this breath taking adventure command center!

This is a perfect getaway for fishing with a large group. The sleeping accamadations are superb for a large group like an extended family. The kitchen had everything you could need. The bathrooms were well supplied and the showers had good volume and plenty of hot water. The fishing was great.

We had an amazing experience! This property was perfect for our large family to celebrate MSU graduation. The outdoor amenities were perfect and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we could possibly imagine needing! The beds were comfy the number of bedrooms was awesome! The bathroom situation on the second floor was a little surprising, but it worked out fine once we got it figured out. Paul was very responsive in communication and great to work with!

We really enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Lucky Dog log home! It was well supplied with all the essentials and a lot of extras! The house was in a great location and the hot tub was a hit for our teenagers! Our family all expressed how it was the most well stocked place we have experienced to date.

The lodge is beautiful and nicely laid out and accommodated our large extended family vacation very well. The hot tub was a great added bonus. We saw deer run through the yard. The river is a short distance and you can hear it from the windows. We were hoping to fish there, in fact, that is why we rented it but there was no way we could fish the river from that location. The weeds/grass were up to your waist and the river was not family friendly for fishing. While the pictures do not show it, the neighbors were surprisingly VERY close. We were under the impression it was more secluded. That said, we had an incredible visit. They had lots of games, puzzles etc to keep the kiddos busy and it was lovely that all the spices and condiments were provided so we didn't have to purchase those. And it was great that everyone had their own bed/room as there were 13 of us staying together. It was a little drive to get to places but not terrible. It's about a 30 minute drive to Big Sky. The owners were fantastic and very responsive. If you have a large family or event and do not mind having to drive for fishing or excursions then this place is great to stay.

Lucky Dog Lodge was a fantastic choice for us to stay while we celebrated our son's graduation from MSU. There was plenty of room for all of us. The kitchen was great for making big breakfasts. The only issue we had was there were no bedrooms on the first floor although we did know about this ahead of time.

We will be back again! We are a well-traveled family, due to being in the military. The Lucky Dog Lodge was my absolute favorite place we have ever stayed. Our family had plenty of space and rooms and bathrooms. It seemed like someone put so much thought in things for the kitchen and bathrooms. We cooked there every night and had everything we needed.
The LDL was so beautiful that the wedding photographer ended up taking some pictures of the bride inside and out.
We hope to bring our entire family back for Christmas at the LDL one year.

Forced family fun for 50 th wedding anniversary
Accommodations worked out well for 8 adults and 6 children. Great eating and living space. Grandkids enjoyed the Gallatin behind the house. Weird bathroom set up but there were 5 showers. Location was great getting to Bozeman,
Big Sky and Yellowstone. Surrounding neighborhood and gravel roads aren’t the greatest. Overall really enjoyed house.

Great place for a family reunion
Driving through the neighborhood I would not have expected this place to be so wonderful, but don’t let that fool you! The house and property are wonderful. Very roomy and fits 20 people comfortably, although beds for only 16. The little path down to the river was such a surprise! Great for fishing and swimming, or just relaxing! Such a beautiful view! We had such a great family reunion in this house!

We had an amazing time for our stay in Bozeman. This house was perfect for our multi-generational group. This house came well equipped with all your kitchen needs. A portable crib for our granddaughter and lots a great communication with the property manager. This house has such a great story and the craftsmanship is amazing. We are still talking about the large logs used in the construction. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. We were 40 minutes from Big Sky, 40 minutes from Bridger Pass. About 15 minutes from the airport. Perfect location for our stay. Enjoy

Best in Bozeman
Stayed at the Lucky Dog Lounge with my family (11) for a winter holiday and could not have been happier. Everyone in the family had their own space when needed and great community space when we wanted to be together. Perfect distance from Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Ski resorts for those of us that went skiing, and everything else in Bozeman is about 15 to 20 minutes away. I could not have been happier with the Lucky Dog Lounge. Thanks to the ownership for sharing!

The Lucky Dog Ranch was a wonderful and serene property!
The tribute to the owner is a great read if you have time. A wonderful property!!! The access to the creek is great, with the big yard! Plenty of space to have MANY GUESTS. The only thing we had trouble with is the doves that nest under the beams. They were a bit loud in the morning.
We would still stay again!!! Thank you!

Incredible Log Home
Phenomenal home in a great location. The lodge is huge and and has plenty of hangout, cooking and bathroom space. We were only a group of 4, so it was waaay too much house for us, but we are so glad we stayed there. The short walk down to the Gallatin became a morning and evening ritual for us - as did sleeping with the windows open and listening to the river’s noises. We would love to come back in the winter with the rest of the family and stay here again.

A rose amongst thorns
The house exceeded our expectations. The manager was responsive to our needs. The neighborhood was substandard but the house is well insulated with foliage and the view of the mountains is great.

Amazing for big groups!
This place absolutely satisfied all of the needs for our group of 20! We went fishing on the beautiful river, had plenty of room for sleeping and hanging out, cooked big meals in the kitchen (and had plenty of forks and plates and cups!), and had easy access to Bridger Bowl where some of us skied for the first time! Paul was extremely accommodating and an amazing host, I would highly recommend staying at one of his properties and would definitely do so again! Thank you so much for facilitating a great trip!

Good in between spot for skiing Big Sky and Bridger. Its right by the river which is cool and with the sauna and hot tub its a great place to hang out. The history of the lodge is pretty cool and the building itself is impressive.

The perfect place for our retreat!
We just returned from a work (and play) retreat at Lucky Dog Lodge. Three of our team members live in the Bozeman area so I was tasked with finding a rental home that would fit our Atlanta-based team members and their spouse/kids. The house is beautiful and was in a great location; gas stations and restaurants were with in a couple of miles. Downtown Bozeman was a short 15-minute drive away. We were central to Bridger Bowl and Big Sky for skiing. The proximity to Bozeman Hot Springs, after a couple of days of skiing, was nice as well! We found the house exactly as we expected after viewing it online. The heated floors downstairs were so nice; and considering we had 17 of us staying in the home, it was very quiet. Parking at the lodge wasn't an issue. We had 3 rental cars that easily fit in the driveway. However, if needed, the additional parking is very convenient. We really enjoyed our stay!

Fantastic ski trip at the River Bend Cabin
The cabin was very well equipped and appointed and extremely comfortable for the six of us. The location of the cabin is perfectly situated between the two ski areas and we enjoyed ski ing at both. I really appreciated that Paul was able to change our reservation at the last minute due to a health problem causing half of our original group to drop out of the trip. I would highly recommend this cabin for a very comfortable stay in the Bozman area and hope to return soon. Thank you.
